1993 Mercury Tracer

I had good experience with this car until about two years or 22,000 mile ago. This is a very inexpensive car up to about 80,000 miles. Then you need to unload this car because many problems will arise. My major issue now is that the transmission began failing about a year ago (would not shift to overdrive). Now the problems are worst. I couldn't get $50 for this car now.

I've had my '95 Tracer (Trio version) for almost seven years and three problems - the a/c compressor broke, but during the warranty period, so Ford fixed it. It had a vacuum leak just this year, which wasn't a major expense to fix. The parking break broke - you can engage it, but it won't dis-engage. No rust, no broken or lose parts. the interior has held up very well. The seats don't look worn. It has been a reliable car, considering it's a Ford.

A good reliable car. You will be surprised how much stuff you can fit in this car. The gas milage is not as good as on other small models... 26 MPG for mixed driving; No more than 28 on highway. The automatic seatbelts are somewhat annoying.

not all that bad

I owned a 95 tracer for my first car. Though it was not my first choice, I never once regretted it. It was a great car, while nothing fancy, it got me everywhere I needed to go and only broke down once (timing belt, i'm sure someone forgot to replace it before i bought it.) Stock stereo is terrible, you will be quite happy with a cheap upgrade. engine, while nothing special, is good enough to do anything you need it to do...you just might have to floor it instead of the half- throttle you might use on other cars.

Nothing but a disappointment from day one! Handled okay, had okay gas mileage, but burned thru transmissions like a teenaged girl goes thru boybands! Parts were expensive and even when under warranty, the dealership never could fix it right. I went thru 2 engines, 3 heater cores, and 4 (count em four!!!) transmissions. Engine had no power or pickup (either of the two!) and I will not be buying another Mercury / Ford ever again!
