Great First Car!
I have the base Sport version of the 2018 Mazda 6. I haven’t had it long enough to give it a true reliability grade but based on what I have heard from other drivers it stands above the competition. With the base version you aren’t getting all the crazy tech but you still get a comfortable, stylish ride for a very affordable price. The interior of the car is incredibly simple yet incredibly elegant. Leather trim around the majority of the inside with cloth seats don’t disappoint. A panel set up to look good and feel good at the same time. The exterior has that menacing look that some people, myself included, crave. For the price, you’re getting a top of the line vehicle aesthetically inside and out. Performance wise the car handles wonderfully, but lacks the kick you might see with the grand touring or signature versions. Overall, coming from the viewpoint of a recent college graduate who got this Mazda 6 as their first car, I would make the decision to go with it 10/10 times! If it’s in your budget, I would recommend the signature or grand touring with all the added features. But if you’re just looking for a stylish, comfortable, reliable, fun drive (minus the lack of HP) then the 2018 Mazda 6 is the car for you!
Great Car
UPDATE: I have now had the car 6 months, and I am still overall very pleased with it. For the price, it is superb. I have changed and lowered a few of my scores. The acceleration is very good, but it is not a sports sedan so don't expect it to be. The back up camera works fine, but Mazda does need to improve resolution on future models. I wish it had as an option active park assist that actually parks the car for you, but it does have the basic park assist with back up and front sensors. I got the Android Auto update for the car, and it is very good; however, I find myself using the standard Mazda interface more than Android Auto. I prefer the ease of set up and configuration with the standard Mazda infotainment system more than Android Auto. Pandora looks and interfaces better with the standard Mazda system, and I like the navigation system better on the Mazda. I typically now only use Android Auto when I am taking a trip to a completely unknown location, since I think Google Maps does a better job with traffic and updates than Mazda system. The Bose sound system is EXCELLENT. I had a Harman Kardon system in the BMW 2 series I traded in for this car that I paid extra for, and the Bose sound system blows it away. It is one of the better sounding systems I have experienced in a car. It is extremely clear with good bass. I have no regrets buying this car, and will probably purchase again in the future if they continue to refine and update this model. I have had my Mazda 6 Signature trim car for two weeks. I am very impressed with this vehicle. I traded in a BMW for this car, and I am very pleased with the overall quality, fit and finish. The interior, in my opinion, is the high point with the Napa leather, wood trim and chrome touches. This car definitely looks and feels way more expensive than the $35,000 sticker price. I was a little worried about the infotainment system after reading various reviews, but I actually like the system. I was able to sync Pandora and Stitcher radio apps easily with the car's system and my phone, contacts, and messages synced easily. I actually like the navigation system. I am looking forward to the Android Auto update that is supposed to be released soon, but I could live with the current system. The engine accelerates smoothly and with verve with the turbo engine and the ride quality is excellent. Overall, a great car and excellent value.

Very Nice Sedan
Car has superb comfort, ergonomics and is fun to drive. I've had no problem with the infotainment system though sometimes it is a little slow, but overall nothing to worry about. It plays from USB very well, and my Samsung Android Note8 syncs fine with the system. The 2.5 turbo engine is very smooth and has more than enough power. The car is very quite on the highway and the radar cruise works very well. Steering feels great once I shut off the Lane Assist which can be somewhat annoying. Many features are customizable through the infotainment from the safety features to lighting, to door lock operation, etc. It's nice to tailor the car how you like. Overall the car has a feeling of high quality and leaves me wanting for nothing. Performance is very good and the gas mileage on a recent road trip was 37mpg, and that wasn't highway driving, but on state roads with elevational changes and no traffic. Better than I expected, no doubt. 1 Year Update: Car has maintained my original observations with a couple of updates. The gas mileage has averaged 30.6 mpg. I wish the infotainment screen would display the entire listing in XM. It cuts off part of the song title. I had Android Auto installed at no cost through Mazda. It is a nice addition, but I more often than not just use the Mazda system for most functions still. Overall great car and I still enjoy it even more than they day I purchased it. It has held up perfectly so far.

I traded in a Lexus... can you believe it?
I have had my 2018 Grand Touring Reserve for just7up under a month now and I absolutely love the car. I have actually gone against the current trend of people moving out of sedans into SUVs as I did just the opposite. My wife was never comfortable with the size of our Lexus RX and since we no longer have a large dog to haul around we made what some may consider to be a rather dramatic downgrade in size, luxury and quality. We purposely went smaller, but let me assure you this new Mazda holds its own very well in terms of quality and luxury. The Signature model of this car is available for those who desire even more luxury. The car drives beautifully, is noticeably quieter than the Lexus, has more standard safety and comfort options, and is a bargain price wise. It's still early but so far I have not had a single regret over the trade we made and, perhaps best of all, my wife loves the car also. An update: Now, after owning this car for 3 years and 30,000 miles I don't believe I would change a single thing about my initial review. I still love the car. We have taken 3 road trips of 3-4 thousand miles and the car is a joy to drive. Mileage is consistently in the low to mid 30 mpg range and the seats are supportive and comfortable for long range driving. The only regret I have about this car is Mazda has made the decision to discontinue it after the 2021 model year. [

Fun car to drive!
I traded in my 2006 Acura TL for the 2018 signature series mazda6 and am a first time Mazda owner. I was looking for a sedan that would be fun to drive but would not break my bank. I think mazda6 signature 6 with the 2.5L turbo is a very good choice for that. I am impressed with the interior and exterior design and also the practical aspect of this car being a family sedan. I like that it comes with a lot of the latest technology both in terms of safety and entertainment. I have had this car for a little over three weeks now and so far I am liking it. The torque that car has is really good but a four wheel drive option would be better with this much power. Couple of bugs/defects? I have noticed so far: The lane keep assist and another safety feature that depend on the front windshield mounted camera stops working when the car is sitting in the sun for some time and as you start driving it gives a message is that these safety features are disabled. This was not a good thing to find out specially because out here in phoenix during the summer this will be a constant issue, the dealer did not mention this to me prior to purchasing and later they said that this is an industry wide issue (not true for all vehicle, maybe some). As the interior of the car cools down the safety features are supposed to be working again but the message sometimes does not go away until you re start the car. Also I am noticing that the thermostat that measures the external temperature gives out a reading which is quite a bit off (around 5 degrees). I plan on contacting mazda customer service abut these issues and see what they have to say. Over all I am enjoing this vehicle so far.

Not too bad.
I wish the car indicated “Signature” or 2.5T. Get rid of the skyactive logo—nobody cares or knows what it is. Averaging 25mpg in suburbs Camera resolution is terrible. Looks like the camera on my old Moto Razr phone. Good pickup speed even w/o Sport mode Great trunk size. Ventilated seats are nice Heated steering wheel is only warm at 3 and 9 o’clock. Why not all the way around? Signature trim should come with remote start Navigation takes too long to load after starting car. Sometimes when backing up, you don’t get the option for the 360 view. The normal backup view does not have the dynamic indicator lines, only the backup view on the smaller 360 view mode. When you turn the car off, the auto up windows do not work (ie before opening a door). You have to hold the whole time. When you turn the car off, the sky light won’t close at all (ie before opening a door). You have to turn the car back on. For some reason, if water is on your car from previous rain, a significant amount falls into the front windows if open. When raining the front sensor goes crazy and thinks you are close to an object. (False warnings).

2nd 6
I traded a 2010 6 GT that I put 187,000 trouble free miles on. No major repairs, just oil, tires and brakes. It was a great car. Loved the V6, so I was skeptical about the 4 cylinder even with a turbo. I was wrong to be skeptical. Fit and finish are far above my 2010. Mazda has moved this sedan into the entry luxury level or even higher in the Signature trim. I look forward to driving to work every day.

Grand Tour Reserve = Fun, comfortable, high tech
Car is beautiful and a pleasure to drive. Compared it to Accord and Camry and liked it the best overall. grand touring reserve that has so many great features, is comfortable and fun to drive! And Apple car play is so awesome, displays your phone on the screen for maps and apps, music system great, heat and heated seats front and back, and safety features are very up to date and helpful.

A Drivers Car
Know this most recent iteration of the Mazda 6 is that of a mature car. The turbo is mild and sounds integrated into the engine's narrative. If you are looking for a comfortable vehicle, a relevant car and driver daily experience then the Mazda 6 is your car. I really like this version. It's a looker inside out. Its capable transportation and a formidable force of nature on the road. If you have ever seen video of a dolphin in the open sea, slicing through the water and changing directions just above the surface then that observation captures the handling qualities of the Mazda 6 when you have somewhere to go post haste. When driving in the slipstream of traffic this car slices through its environment with confidence and purpose, easily handling the abrupt and lazy esses on the road. When it comes to the transmissions response everything is within range, never does it seem strained and out of breath. Mazda styling is a decidedly conservative suite that has a heart beat. I can't say enough about this outstanding effort Mazda has brought to market. However, there is room for improvement. The iPad like screen will occasionally go black. I can hear the audio but I can't see anything to change my selection. Apple car play is not as intuitive, as the Mazda system mainly because I am more familiar with the Mazda system than Apple Car Play. Car Play works but I have to think about where I am going next, this is not a complaint just takes getting used to. The tires are a compromise. They are the same tires used on a SUV. The error on the side of a quiet smooth ride. If you really get into it, the Falken tires are playing catch up to the suspension system. This is not a bad thing, when it comes to getting new tires you can put on a set of Michelins and see what more is baked into the suspension's geometry. My one complaint is the feeling of the air conditioning. In the front seat the air cools where the vents point. It takes a while on a hot summer day to cool the car. The air conditioner is working but it's ability to cool the car's climate is not as powerful as it sounds. Often the result, it cools spots in the cabin but is slow to cool the cabin. Overall the car is informative and manages to not be a distraction from the road, except getting used to Apple Car Play. If you can find a solid dealership that will take good care of you, this car is a keeper and it will keep for a long time to come if that is your thing.

My third Mazda 6
I my first Mazda 6 Touring sedan in late 2014 (2015 model) and within 2 years graduated into a Gran Touring. Simply loved the car and could not wait until the new 2018's were introduced so I could get into a car with a little more luxury and the turbo engine. Boy was I pleasantly surprised on all fronts! The Reserve is definitely a notch above the GT and the newly added features of the Reserve make this a great value. The turbo is simply icing on the cake because it is quick as well as being fuel efficient. I have had the car for 8 weeks and took a trip into Door County Wisconsin from my home in Chicago and got just over 30 mpg. This car is also noticeably quieter than the GT I had before. The Mazda 6 Reserve really makes you wonder why you would spend $50K+ on a luxury automobile when you can spend far less on a Mazda 6 Reserve (or Signature) and get so much value. This car is simply awesome.

Outstanding updates in 2018!
I have owned my Mazda 6 Signature for 12k miles now. I am very pleased with it. I'm an older motor head that is coming full circle. There was a day when all that mattered to me was performance and handling. Now I want my luxury and still some performance and handling. I drove several Mazda 6's before they added to turbo to the line up and they were IMO boring. At the same time I was worried this new model would have the turbo stuffed in and just be a handling and traction mess. I was completely wrong. Mazda updated so much of the chassis design suspension computer programming etc that this car handles great. They added a ton of NVH materials underneath and the interior is a 8 out of 10. The only reason it is not a 10 out of 10 is I feel the display screen and function is outdated and clunky. This midsize sedan I would put at entry level luxury. heated/cooled seats front and back. Leather and real wood doors and dash. Curve adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, 360 camera and more. I could not find another midsize sedan with the features this car had for under $46k. Mazda also did something else I love. You can use regular unleaded and get about 225hp and 310ftlbs of torque or premium and get 250hp and pretty much the same torque. Frankly I find it just great at regular unleaded. The car is set up for low RPM power and feels like it has a ton of power in the normal driving range. If you feel the need to constantly shut off traction control, throw it in manual and use the paddle shifters (yep, it has paddle shifters), and run it up to redline then by all means throw in super unleaded and enjoy the 25 extra ponies. My only complaint on the power/traction is if you mash on it off the line you will spin the tires but that is the trade off you make for a low RPM high torque design and I feel like Mazda could not have tuned this any better. One thing I love about this car that Mazda did, unlike most cars in this class (Honda, Toyota, Kia, some Fords) is that if you push the handling of this car the computer assist is incredible. Most other cars will immediately kill the fuel as soon as the computer registers any tire slip, either off the line or high speed turns. The Mazda 6 does not. It feels like it dials back the power slowly just enough to regain traction without ruining the feel. For what this car is intended to be I have a hard time finding cons to it. as I mentioned earlier I feel the display is dated. It does not seem to be updated from 2-3 years ago. That being said, the updates Mazda made to the luxury and drive experience are spot on and impressive.

What a beauty
I smile every time I look at it. I got the Sport, so I paid a modest price for so much car. When test driving it there were 4 of us in the car, me at 215lb, the sales guy at around 250lbs, and two ladies. I merged at a fast pace into a mess of traffic, which made the sales guy tense up noticeably, but the car had no issues weaving and getting up to speed quickly. Getting 33 mpg because it's just me commuting to work. Handles my horribly muddy, cratered, mile long dirt drive without an issue, plenty of ground clearance. My 6'-1' 50 yr old body has enough leg and head room, though the seats could be wider for me, perfect pedal placement unlike most cars I tested. Very quiet and comfortable ride when I'm cruising. I now look forward to my commute, I plan my route to include curves, and heavy traffic is a breeze to weave in and out.

Zoom Zoom Gotta Go!
A lot of options and equipment for the money! Very happy with the ride, handling and performance. A little too much engine noise on accel but quiet at cruising speeds. I have owned all of the big 3 imports, Toyota, Honda, and now Mazda. The Mazda by far with it's eye catching style and handling beats the other two offerings in the same price range.

Mazdas
I've had two older rotary engine Mazda's, a 2016, and now a 2018 Mazda Sport Manual six speed transmission. Mazda is different. If that's what you're looking for, give them a try. Performance, driving satisfaction. The base model with the manual is an incredible value. I think, the base engines fine. Drive it slow, satisfied feeling, good fuel economy. Drive it fast(put your foot into second, or third gear at around three thousand rpm or above), and it becomes uncivilized. Road curve taking is addictive. I feel so peaceful, and happy when I drive it. It isolates me from the world. Luxury sport sdan. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The nit picking goes away when you spend time on back roads carving up the twisties. The Mazda symbol is Angel wings. It doesn't disappoint.

Impresses more every day I drive it!
I leased the base Sport automatic because the numbers were unbeatable, and I knew I'd enjoy driving it because it's a Mazda. What I didn't know is that I would fall in love with this car! The upper trim levels would have given me a few more goodies, but this car has everything I really want or need in a vehicle. Performance is amazing. I read that "it needs more horsepower," but mine has outstanding acceleration. Cornering is flat and dead neutral, emergency responsiveness (a MUST in Florida traffic) is flawless. Braking is more than up to any situation. Seats are comfortable, but shaped for aggressive cornering. Overall fuel economy average is 32, but daily work commute (40 miles round-trip) is 36-38: amazing! To sum it up: you could spend $16,000-$18,000 more for an comparably-equipped Japanese or European "luxury sports sedan," but all you're really getting for that kind of money is a VERY expensive hood ornament. If you don't look at a Mazda6, you're doing yourself a big disservice.
Love this car!
I've had the Mazda6 (Grand Touring Reserve) for 2 weeks so far. Great engine! Plenty of torque! Excellent on the highway with very little road noise. Very comfortable seats. Interior is very upscale - on par with German luxury sedans. It has Apple CarPlay! Works great! I love seeing Waze on the large screen. Took me a few days to get used to the lower control knob, but I am now a fan! Sound with the Bose system is awesome! Now addicted to the heads-up display. Also love the auto high-beam headlights. Great viability. Overall very satisfied!

This car has got style and class!
I have had my 2018 Mazda 6 Touring for about 2 weeks now. One of the first things that drew me to this car was the look of it. It is an eye-catcher! Even before I bought this car, I would turn my head when i would see one on the road. My car has the Soul Red Crystal Metallic exterior color. I have never seen another car-make that has a red coloring quite like the Mazda. It is absolutely gorgeous! After leasing a 2016 Chevy Malibu LT, I decided to purchase a 2018 Mazda 6 Touring. There are some features of the Malibu that I lost, but I gained much more with the Mazda 6. The Malibu is a much more connected car than the Mazda, with OnStar, Wifi hotspot, and the ability to have remote-start using a Smartphone and/or key fob. I do have remote-start with my Mazda 6, but only on the key fob. The Malibu also has better interior lighting than the Mazda 6. Aside from those minor shortcomings, the Mazda 6 far outshines the Malibu when it comes to features in relation to equivalent models (I think the Malibu LT is equivalent to the Mazda 6 Touring). With my Mazda 6, I gained Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-spot and cross-traffic alert, Lane Keep Assist, Rain-sensing wipers, Automatic high-beam lights, Advanced Breaking System, Sun Roof, Leatherette Interior, and much more. You get a lot of car for the money, and the styling is close to higher-end cars such as BMW, Audi, Lexus, or Infinity. It handles incredibly well and has a very smooth ride. I do not have the turbo engine in my Mazda 6, so I will say that acceleration isn't as quick as I have had with a 2005 Mazda 6 that I had years ago. Both models incorporated a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine, but I think the 2018 Mazda 6 is a heavier car than the 2005, which may account for the slower acceleration. The Infotainment system works well, although it takes some getting used to. You cannot use the touch-screen while driving, which was not the case with the Malibu. Instead, Mazda incorporates a physical knob/joystick control that can be used when the touch-screen is disabled. It works very well and I find myself using it most of the time, even when the touch-screen is active. I do wish that the Infotainment system provided a voice pass-through button to call-up Google on my phone. I had this on the Malibu too. However, I can get around it by calling out "OK Google" and my phone will accept Google requests over Bluetooth that way. It doesn't always work correctly though. Regular factory voice-commands work very well and seem much more robust than the Malibu factory voice-commands. The sound system is pretty good too, even without the Bose audio system that is available in higher trim models. Overall, the car is great and really fun to drive. I would highly recommend it!

The best sedan for the money
I had been shopping for a new sedan or wagon for a couple of years. i have owned a few Subaru's but could not find a newer model with comfortable seats. I test drove the Mazda 6 in previous years but they were pretty noisy. In 2018 they finally refined it with less road noise and very comfortable front seats. I bought the 2018 Touring model. I believe it is one of the most beautiful cars you can buy. It has great driving dynamics with excellent gas mileage. I have gotten as high a 40 mpg on a road trip and always get at least 30 around town. The Mazda is a great value, fun car to drive at a fraction of the cost of an Audi or BMW.

Gotta love me
This car is luxury without the price. The interior is gorgeous and the exterior will turn heads too. The Reserve trim gives you everything you need. Note the head up display is projected onto the front windshield (plastic is gone) along with all the driver safety aids and traffic sign recognition. Ride is typical Mazda and with the g-vectoring system turns are a blast. Just came back from a trip to Oklahoma and Texas and this car is so comfortable, seats ride well and adaptive cruise makes it easy to handle. I got between 33 and 34 mpg on the trip and my city driving is giving me 26 mpg. Full disclosure, my city/suburban driving is not a lot of stop and go and most outside of subdivisions is being done at minimum 40 mph speed limits. I've had the car for about 6 weeks and I just love it, Gray mettalic with Parchment Interior is really sharp. This is my second Mazda 6, traded in a 2016 Grand Touring which was a great car. Interior refinement like the horizontal look of the instrument panel, the digital gauge(the right gauge in the Reserve is digital), the seats the soft panels and overall quality is so much nicer. Plus the noise level is down. Love the Android auto feature. You owe it to yourself to test drive this car, don't just follow the crowd, spread YOUR wings, look at the Mazda 6, it is in my opinion a great car.

From a 14 Lexus es350 to a 2018 mazda 6 Touring.
I love variety so I lease vehicles. I've owned multiple brands the last two being lexus. I liked the quality of the lexus interiors and quiet ride. I was looking for a replacement for my expiring lease and a new mazda 6 ad caught my eye. I live in a populated area and had never even noticed a newer 6 because there are few out there compared to other major brands. That along with incredible lease prices compared to lexus or toyota with comparable features. I opted for the Touring non turbo. Ride quality is better, and quieter even with 19 in rims compared to my lexus es with 17s. Interior quality is top notch. I'm 37 and this feels very light and snappy with class. Plenty of exterior colors though only two interior colors, white or black. My mazda 6 window sticker says 100% made in Japan. I was shocked, and pleasantly surprised. My car did not come with nav, though I ordered a mazda USB on amazon for $100 bucks. That option is thousands on a lexus. I wish more options were open on the non turbo. I would've liked heated outside mirrors, the Bose stereo, auto dimming mirrors, and power passengers seat. I've had it for 7 month's so far 6500 miles. Only annoyance is getting in. I'm 6'2 and while getting in my back hits the B pillar. The surrounding door gasket is black rubber and though quality material kinda grips my clothes as well. I'm 180 lbs. Sport mode is pointless. I get compliments on the car all the time. If the Hcci engine makes it to the 6 that would be my next lease.

Good car for the price point
Overall no actual issues with the vehicle, it's driven roughly 80 miles a day 5 days a week. Some flaws would be the assisted breaking engages way to early, and the engine is sluggish unless you put premium gas in the tank. Additional issues regarding this year of Mazda's not necessarily just the Mazda 6 is the soul red crystal metallic paint, the paint is extremely thin and fragile, if you are to purchase this vehicle used, I suggest taking a good close look at the paint and point out any defects since that is a decrease in the value of the car if the paint is damaged. Also I would suggest getting a paint protection film installed immediately or with a paint correction if you get one, that is a large expense but will save you money on paint repairs in the long run. As for touchup paint, good luck, this coat of paint is very complex and hard to match so you most likely wont find a paint that matches perfectly even if the color code matches. Additional information: 1.) Do not opt in for the navigation system if you have android or apple connect, to be honest the navigation system is stuck in the early 2000s and is definitely not worth the money. 2.) Be aware that you will feel the road when driving, I personally like that feeling since I feel like I have more control over the vehicle but I know other people like to have a butter smooth driving experience, you will not get that with this vehicle. 3.) The design and interior is on par with a base luxury vehicle, but just because it looks the part does not mean it has the same features, you will not have a valet system or a cooled glovebox for drinks, this is a premium vehicle, not luxury. Regarding other comments I've seen: 1.) The heated seats not working quickly, mine kick on and warm up very quickly, you did not say how long yours takes to warm up my seat is completely warm with 1 - 1 1/2 minutes. If yours takes longer and the dealership is saying that's by design, they're probably lying to you. 2.) Regarding the comments where you have issues after a repair, that's not an issue with the vehicle itself, that's an issue with low quality work or faulty work being done on the vehicle. I would never take my car back from a dealership if it was in worse condition than when I brought it in. (This is an issue with Mazda dealerships and even standard repair and auto shops, a lot of techs and mechanics have no idea what they're doing.) 3.) Regarding infotainment screen freezing or turning off. I haven't run into that at all so I can't speak on that issue, I would suggest having a dealership look into the issue, maybe the software just needs to be updated. Final notes: Overall the car is a good vehicle, I'm happy to drive it, and its enjoyable to drive. You're not going to get luxury with this vehicle, but you also didn't pay for luxury so it shouldn't be expected. I personally chose the soul red crystal metallic coat of paint, and even though it looks amazing when properly cared for, its just to fragile and way to hard to match when you get a chip in the paint, which makes me regret my choice in color. Having to put premium gas in the tank so that it feels better when driving is annoying, but at this point I'm so used to paying more for gas than everyone else that it doesn't bother me now. I would say my biggest issue is dealing with techs and dealerships who either don't listen to what you tell them, or just blatantly do whatever they want. For example, if I say I want casterol edge 5w30 in the car, I expect to get that especially if I offer to go out and purchase it myself, not mobile one 0w20 oil, yes, the dealership put the wrong type of oil in the car and I had to get them to drain it and put new oil in again. Also when I say don't wash the car, and you do it anyway and leave swirl marks in the paint, I will chew you out since you just wasted hours of my time since now I have to rewash the car, strip the waxes and sealants, claybar the car, then do a paint correction, I then need to thoroughly inspect the car for all defects and make additional corrections if needed, then reapply a sealant and wax to protect the paint again. Not only do you waste my time by making me do that, you also cause me to have to shave off parts of the clearcoat which can be detrimental once it gets low enough. Overall the biggest downside to Mazda for me is incompetent mechanics and techs working on the car.

My third Mazda6
My first Mazda was a 2008 Mazda6 Sport model which handled beautifully but a little under powered. Next was a 2015 Touring with sufficient horsepower and a more comfortable ride. When I test drove the 2018 turbo I was hooked. I love everything about this car. Looks, ride, tech, horsepower. I went with the Grand Touring this time. My wife is on her third Mazda also, a 2018 CX-5. Mazda has won us over. There is nothing we don’t love about our cars.

Paint Issues 2018 Mazda 6 Soul Red Grand Touring
Update 2/23/25...Still happy! Just turned over 90k miles and still running strong and beautiful! AND still holding great value!!! Update 2/23/24 - I still own and love my '18 Mazda 6 Grand Touring Reserve. She looks inside and out like a new car (except for the paint chips mentioned before). I had the initial paint chips from road debris touched up and then had a ceramic glaze applied. She shines like no other! I get complements on it all the time. I still, even with the coating, have additional new chips that drive me crazy. If she weren't such a great car with her turbo engine, I'd probably look to some other car....I have had no mechanical issues, she still runs like a champ, interior I was told recently looks like a brand new car. Even the guy who touches up my ceramic coating annually asked my husband who details my car. When my husband told him I do it myself. He said he'd hire me any day. Seriously, I use a vacuum cleaner and a Norwex rag with water....no other chemicals have been used. I do take the mats out and wash those with soap and water....but like I said....I am very happy with her except for the paint chips. Oh, and knowing they no longer sell new 6 models in the US....well that is a crying shame. Update 2/20/22 - While I love my car.....I am very disappointed in the Soul Red paint job and the lack of concern from Mazda (specifically the dealership I bought it from). I bought the car brand new Feb 2019. Did not notice issues with the paint until the summer of 2020. Massive amount of tiny paint chips in the hood. I questioned the dealership about what appeared to be a very thin paint application, they used the excuse that the Federal Gov't had forced all manufacturers to use water-based paints. They suggested I contact a guy that could put a coating on it to prevent further damage. I found an online forum of dissatisfied 2018 Mazda owners and hundreds had the same problems with the Soul Red paint chips. Only a few were able to get any satisfaction from Mazda USA. Very discouraged, I did have the paint chips filled in with a paint pen from Mazda and had it ceramic coated, but I still have a few since then. Other than my continued issues with setting trip destinations, my car has been a joy. No mechanical issues, no body issues. Running strong and looking good ZOOMING down the road....Sorry, not a speed demon here...but do enjoy the get-up-n-go when needed. 2019 Original Review - Traded in my 2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring...loved that car EXCEPT for a slight hesitation in each gear. When I heard the 2018 was coming out with turbo....well enough said. Bought my new '18 Reserve package in Soul Red Crystal just a few weeks ago....she's a beaut! The new turbo engine offers the responsiveness my '15 model lacked. It feels heavier and more stable. The cabin is much quieter from road and wind noise. While it does have a larger back-up camera screen, the resolution leaves alot to be desired. The heated steering wheel is a nice upgrade and I'm sure I'll enjoy the cooling seats this summer. Not liking the very time-consuming effort to set a trip destination...will have to practice more with this feature. Overall very satisfied with look, performance, handling and reliability of Mazda. Zoom Zoom!!!

Smooth, sophisticated, sports sedan-like
Owned a 2011 mazda6 before this and I loved it so decided to get another Mazda6 and I do not regret it. This car is everything that car was, except better, in every single way. Adequate acceleration with the base engine but I opted to get the much faster and satisfying 2.5l turbo. Elegant, straightforward interior with high quality materials. Infotainment system is sometimes slow to boot and android auto has some bugs but it's not a deal breaker like a lot of youtube reviews describe. Dealership was charging around $400 to upgrade to wireless android auto/apple car play which I thought was ridiculous. Backup camera isn't as bad as youtubers describe either, although I've noticed that wiping it clean before a drive when it's raining is sometimes necessary. Phenomenal handling, however the OEM tires could be grippier. Falls short of true sports sedan experience but this doesn't bother me. They feel balanced between sporty handling and a serene sedan driving experience. One complaint I have is that I wish the power seats had one more adjustment to raise the thigh support, or, to lower the seating position just a tad. But I'm a big guy at 6'1" at around 230lb. Plenty of legroom. Worth noting that there is no single seating position in this car that is uncomfortable for me. That's how comfortable I feel in this car. I can adjust the seat as close as possible to the steering wheel and Im still comfy. I couldn't say that about the numerous other cars I test drove. I feel grateful to be driving such a beautiful, practical, yet fun car. This car was purchased as a "certified pre-owned", but I'd feel confident buying it pre-owned also.

Sport sedan posing as a family car
I have to agree with a Car & Driver review that said the performance, handling and interior were more BMW and Audi than Asian import. I don't drive fast but the turbo engine makes maneuvering easy. The Mazda6 is a joy to drive. And a lot of standard active safety electronics.

Pretty nice but not exceptionally sporty
I had the opportunity to put nearly 1000 miles on a dealer loaner 2018 Mazda6 Grand Touring while my Mazda3 was in for service, so consider this my review of an extended test drive through a variety of conditions. Compared to the 3, or even older generations of the 6, the new 6 is heavier and the handling is not quite as sharp. Some of that may be due to the Falken tires Mazda uses, which are actually SUV tires. If I owned this car, I'd definitely swap for different rubber, which would probably improve the ride as well. The new turbo 2.5L borrowed from the CX-9 provides great low end torque and acceleration, but runs out of steam at higher revs, and doesn't feel like a particularly sporty engine. Inside and out, the car is stylish and nicely equipped. The Grand Touring trim on the 6 is actually the mid level trim, unlike the 3 where it is the top level. However, I think it hits the sweet spot - you get the turbo engine, LED lights, moonroof, navigation, Bose stereo, and a whole lot more, but save thousands compared to higher trims. I averaged 27MPG which seems about right for a car in this class.

4 years and this car is still awesome!
I've owned alot of cars - Toyotas, Hondas, and 3 previous Mazdas. I love cars - love to drive. The Mazda 6 is beautiful, comfortable, fun to drive, has very responsive acceleration, and gets over 30 miles per gallon combined. The technology is great. Best of all - we've done regular oil changes and a set of tires - never once had any problems with it. I highly recommend it.

Solid and stylish
I just purchased a 2018 Mazda 6 base model with only 22k miles. Highway fuel economy borders on obscene, you can easily get above 40 mpg on a road trip. Ride quality and steering are very smooth, reminds me more of older mid sized American cars than the Camry's I've owned or otherwise driven. The trunk is average height but very deep and nearly a 1.5 feet height worth of storage continues with rear seats down. Acceleration is adequate but this car feels surprisingly subdued and comfortable. Perfect for how I drive but others might expect more 'zoom zoom'. Interior feels very high quality. Tech is user friendly. I would note that XM appears grayed out on the menu but is actually only available on the top trim level without having to add an XM radio. I've found the driver aids helpful but not too sensitive.

From a 2017 Ford Edge to a 2018 Mazda 6
I totaled my ford edge and while its capabilities for an accident were amazing I couldn't get myself to purchase another after the accident. I chose a Mazda 6 touring for many reasons mainly because I have the same trunk space as my ford edge and the interior room is almost the same (the distance from front to back seat was the only difference). All newer cars have a sluggish response when comparing it to old school push the throttle and go cars. I have had the 2017 edge, a 2014 dodge dart both of which are worse in the speed in which they shift. The only thing that I lost moving from the edge to the 6 is a little leg room in the back seat and awd. Things I gained were sunroof, leather seats, heated seats, dual climate control, active cruise control, lane departure assist, and apple car play. The 2.0l twin turbo in the edge has far less get up and go than the mazda 6. The only thing I have been able to find that I dislike with the mazda is that the radar for active cruise control picks up vehicles in lanes other than what I am traveling in when maneuvering around corners. Things I recommend are the bumper to bumper warranty extension since everything contains electronics.

Update about paint
My car is "Soul Crystal Red". The original paint flaked excessively under conditions that should not have flaked at all. I reported the issue to Mazda, and with some patience worked through their warranty system. I am happy to report that they repainted my car under warranty - the only cost to me was driving my car to the dealer. It is now both beautiful and functional. I test drove some Accords (hybrid and not), Civics, Subarus (but not the Legacy) and the Mazda 3. Like most people I suppose, I selected my car based on its value to me for the price. I had been driving a Scion xB for years, and while a great, basic car in my respects, it is almost lawn mower loud. The 6 is quiet, really quiet. The Accord is quicker, but I found the tire noise irksome, I did not like its ride as much, and the interior wasn't as nice. My 6 is quick enough for anything I do, and it is a pleasure to drive. I'm serious, I just enjoy driving it. I look forward to getting in my car, and driving my mostly highway commute. I decided I didn't need the price/performance hit for the 4wd Subaru, mostly because I already own an Outback, and I really can't justify something like the WRX. I understand that some do not like the infotainment controls, but I really like them. I feel they are safer than a touch screen, and I don't leave fingerprints where I can see them. I'm tall with pretty broad shoulders, so my arms go around water bottles in the center console to the controls very comfortably. The voice commands work really well, too (especially compared to in my old lawn mower, er Scion). I only found two drawbacks. The side water bottle holders are not cup holders. No big deal for me, but perhaps for you. And, my wife is tiny and finds the seats too stiff. If she puts a cushion down, the car disbelieves her presence, and her airbag is off.

2018 Mazda 6 turbo
The car is a semi Luxury car. It has a sporty yet comfortable ride. Steering is crisp although not a good as my 2009 Maxima. Acceleration is very good on 93 octane and good on 87. It will not do 0-60 in under 6 seconds though but it will do it in about 6.2. The car corners extremely flat due to the Vectoring control that Mazda built into the car. A couple of things that I dont like are that the mirrors dont have a memory function with the seats. Also, the heated steering wheel is only heated at the 10 and 2 position and 4 and 8. The top of the wheel is not heated. My only other annoyance is the fact that the rear view mirror is too close to the driver.

Signature Rocket...
Super Car with a only 2 flaws Bought a lightly used 2018 Mazda6 Signature. It has all the bells and whistles one would expect from a much more expensive Mercedes or Lexus with the same equipment...Save 30,000.00 vs a new likely equipped or save 15,000.00 vs a same like car equipped used. Pros... simple interface....HUD shows all relevant information on the windshield. even turn by turn nav instructions. I actually prefer the mazda interface even though it is apple carplay equipped and android. once you get use to it and know how to use the voice commands on the mazda interface it is easy. Turbo is very fast... Barely step on the gas and it just goes.... be careful not to peel out to make your transmission and tires last as long as possible....Large 4 wheel disc brakes makes stopping in a dime. I've driven this with 50/50 hwy city and it averages 25-26mpg..... drops to 23-24 if constant stop and go traffic. I've taken this car on long trips...The air conditioned seats are a real help from fatigue. I got 34 almost 35 mpg on 100% hwy and only stopping for gas...and that is driving at 65-75mph ...maybe slightly faster on states that allow 70mph interstates. Putting this on cruise and just relax. Great BOSE system....Quiet ride...no wind noise....Stock tires were crap and newer tires designed to be quiet on the road makes it even quieter. only 2 flaws i can point out touch door is only drivers side...lexus /mercedes has all 4 doors with touch open. and the Pana camera system is garbage....resolution is terrible....there are no fixes from mazda and even the current 2020 year still has the same issue. They say its a software interface that makes it look like garbage....Mazda with a single rear camera are much sharper... I guess they had to scale it down showing 4 cameras instead of 1...but you get use to it...it is not too terribly bad. Overall fun to drive no regrets. No problems after 1 year use This mazda6 Turbo will be collector's item since mazda discontinued it.

lives up to the accolades?
Although not the newest thing on the road, this is just a lovely car -- and an amazing bargain. At a time when other manufacturers are succumbing to tortured, overblown designs that will soon date, the 6's elegant minimalist design, inside & out, and excellent fit & finish are refreshing. You feel this car will last a long time... Although tempted by the Turbo, I eventually went with the Touring, for fuel consumption reasons; it was a good decision -- computer shows a lifetime average of 34.5 mpg (most of my driving is highway, but the cylinder deactivation also kicks in surprisingly often, according to the fuel consumption gauge). Performance is adequate, helped a lot by the super-smart AT, which no matter what you throw at it, anticipates what gear you need. Engine note is not terribly charismatic, but its quiet unless you use the kickdown. The ride can be a bit brittle at low speeds -- payback for those 19 inch gunmetal alloys?-- but otherwise the car has a delightfully flowing gait without a hint of sloppiness. Wouldn't mind a bit more steering feel at low speeds, but its precise and beautifully weighted, and roadholding is excellent. Love the interior, with watch-like instrumentation and super high quality vinyl & padded surfaces everywhere. Redesigned front seats are really comfortable, but could use another inch of movement on the seat track (I'm 6' 2"). The central infotainment controller takes a bit of getting used to, but works beautifully. Really impressed with attentive dealer who also gave me a great deal on my last car. Update January 2020: Still really enjoying the car, though fuel consumption has increased slightly, probably due to greater use of the car's sporty character. Major disappointment though, was finding when taking the car for its first inspection (ie. just over 1 year old) that the rear brake rotors were severely corroded, and needed be replaced, along with the pads -- over $400. This kind of problem rarely appears until cars are at least 4-5 years old (if ever), yet Mazda "corporate" have refused any compensation. They argue such replaceable items are not covered beyond the first year of ownership, even though the problem had clearly started sometime before being discovered. This contrasts with generally excellent dealer experience I've had, and makes me wonder whether the car will be as durable as it feels. Update July 2020: Still love driving this car; such a fluid, responsive, dynamic partner on any remotely interesting road; so light on its feet & ready to change direction. Plus, lifetime fuel consumption average now stands at 35.5 mpg -- almost approaching hybrid territory. The Falken tires stopped being so quiet when the alignment went out, and they started cupping, but that has been rectified. Still, looking forward to trying another brand when they are due for replacement. Update August 2021; 45k miles and going strong; still enjoying my ride. No problems other than another set of brake rotors (front this time) Replaced tires with Vredestein Quatrac Pros, which are excellent-- almost as quiet as the Falkens, better steering feel and grip

Good midsize car but no "sports sedan"
I have had the car for a couple of weeks now and while the initial drive and impressions were favorable (more like "best of the mehs" vs the Camry and Accord I drove), I just don't find it all that exciting to drive, certainly not on-par with the enthusiasm I have read about. It won't plant power well coming out of a corner which is probably the tire selection (quiet + low rolling resistance) plus the tuning of the engine (torque at low rpm). So, it wants to spin its tires on aggressive "launch" then you wind it out in search of some top-end satisfaction and it falls on its face around 4k rpm. So...now I just don't bother flooring it anymore. It doesn't beg to be driven hard. It's just...weird. Drive it normally and it is fine, but then you may as well just get the base 2.5L proven engine and get the resulting improved fuel economy. The lousy engine tuning aside, it does handle decently until 7 tenths or so then it falls apart due to its fwd-nature. So again, don't drive it hard. It's OK for sweeping corners and such but it falls apart when you ask the front tires to do too much transferring of weight. It does look nice inside and out. The interior is a nice place to spend time and has a good line-up of tech. Plenty on that in the other reviews. So, if you are shopping for the top-tier M6 (GT, GT Reserve or Signature), do it because that is the only way you can get the luxury options that you want, not because of the turbo engine. If you do want a car in this class that is enjoyable to drive hard, the Accord (2.0T) and Camry (V6) are both better.

4 times to the dealership the first 6 weeks
UPDATE: 2 Years in and 2 more services with this car. Oil switch within the transmission had to be replaced. The ABS/Breaks system is faulty too. Previous: I was a Mazda fan and this is my second car. This will definitely be my last. The passenger seat didn’t heat up, I went to get it replaced , they claimed it’s by design . I had Josie coming from the center console, they claim they didn’t hear it. I took it back and they replaced parts, the noise is louder now. My microphone stopped working and car play is working. The quality of this car is a joke. Extremely extremely dissatisfied - the only good thing so far has been the interior and exterior design

This car suits me well
This is an update to the review below. I've had my just less than 2 years now. I still really like it. I've had no mechanical problems, nor any electronic problems. My car pool buddies really like the car also. I think that as long as I treat it well, it will treat me well. I still enjoy driving it, and I love the enjoy noise when I do stomp on it. If all I do is commute, or drive on the highway, I get over 30 mpg. (I've played around a bit with octane ratings. Higher octane does lead to better highway mileage, but not enough to cover the cost. I do it for the environment.) The only drawbacks? The one that is the biggest nuisance for me is that all my favorites stations/channels have disappeared 3 times now. I believe it is tied to updates or something in the entertainment unit. It might be that once was due to disconnecting the battery for routine service. (How would I know?). The only good thing about this is I go through all the available stations and channels again, which motivates me to try something different or look for format changes. Perhaps more importantly, the paint seems susceptible to chips. We use small rocks instead of sand here. The rocks chip the paint. I bought some touchup paint to protect the metal during the winter. Finally, the Sirius reception is not quite as good as that in our Outback - it takes longer to start, and parking under an overpass is more likely to lead to an interruption. You are not going to change your own oil, unless you have a lift. I don't think you can drive the car up ramps. Love this car
Comfort, class and valuable safety features that make this car a dream. We are new to Mazda ownership but appreciate the care they took in this car. We have the signature 6 model which full safety features. NJ Route 17 dealership has been a fine team to deal with.
Almost terrific
Overall, the Mazda 6 has been a pleasure. It looks beautiful on the inside and out, drives like a champ, and makes you feel like you got a lot for your money. These are all wonderful things that should make you look hard at this car as a potential buy. However, there are two items to be aware of before you buy. 1.) The infotainment system is slow. I mean really slow. After I start the car, it will sometimes be close to a full minute before I get the ability to view the Sirius channels. I'm locked in Linux booting hell, and there is no way out. The controls are locked and you just have to wait, and wait, and wait. I recently upgraded the firmware at the dealership hoping that latest version would fix the issue, but alas, I'm still waiting! The second issue has been my fuel efficiency. The car comes with a mpg monitor and I can see that I'm getting in the low 20's for most of my driving. I haven't come close the 28 mpg I was expecting. Getting in the 30's will take a miracle from above. I have the Turbo GTR which is obviously going to be less efficient than if you were looking at one of the non-Turbo models, but I still think the car is operating below where it should. Other than that, the car is outstanding. I'm happy driving it, I'm turning heads when people see it, and family is very comfortable when they are with me. Overall, very happy with everything but the two items above. Happy car hunting..

Great Car!
We needed to replace a Toyota Camry (avoid the 2009!!) in the worst time in history to find a car. The chip shortage and huge demand drove prices sky high. I looked for the usual Toyota and Honda offerings. Toyota has gone to pot. The look and feel of the new Camry's show decrease in quality and ride. Honda/Acura were OK, but felt strange since the gearing in new transmissions is so frequent. It felt like you went through 6 gears at 45mph! Then we discovered Mazda! They upped their game considerably since Nissan went to TATA. The Six is their largest sedan and very comfortable. And most important, does not feel like a boat! It is zippy and fun to drive, even at highway speeds. Yes, it has a GDI engine, but they fixed the carbon buildup issues that the 2017 model has been experiencing. The trunk is huge, back seat is spacious. The most important thing is that drive train is the same in all 6 models! The touring edition drives the same as the base at almost 10 grand less. The seats in the base are black cloth, which is fine. The driver seat is not electric, only manual adjustments. Overall, the car is great value.

Mazda 6 still running good
Purchased and 2018 Grand Touring with the turbo. It had less than 13,000 on it, great looking car inside and out. Also have a 2018 Honda Sport 1.5 turbo. Both are unique and fun to drive but I favor the Honda more in gas mileage and acceleration however not buy much. The leather interior exceeds the honda as well as the looks plus the ride great. Honda handles better with the wider 19' tires and better technology overall. Would be nice if Mazda put wider tires to eliminate potential screeching with a high acceleration from first to second but the second gear on the mazda is something else. The infotainment center lacks in comparison to the accord sport. It's slow, but works nonetheless. Comfort goes to Mazda without a doubt but the Accord has the space and the head room and various driver seat interaction. Mazda driver seat sits high in the low position, plus I tend to sometimes brush my head when entering. I think they should really work on mre seating interaction and spacing but overall my family loves the comfort of the Mazda. Especially the back seats. You can't go wrong with both cars. CVT turbo and 6 Speed automatic 2.5 turbo. I rarely drive sport mode in both cars because I want to take it easy on the longevity of the turbos. Both cars great and unique will last for years to come.

Gotta get in sync
Low rpms, expect sluggish response - if the car responds. The motor, the transmission, and the controllers don’t know how to handle low speed maneuvers. Expect hesitations and a rocking back and forth accelerate to hesitate as the computers try to figure out what to do. Very frustrating, especially if you are accustom to old-school direct connections where your foot is the only controller in the game. Highway, better, but best if you are a lead-foot. Otherwise be prepared to be really concerned about safety. Year and months now past since this review above. No change to the constant hesitations, no change to what Mazda regional engineering says about the sensors and performance. The car is just designed with this jerky hesitation at low speeds for the gain of mileage and higher speed performance. Very frustrating for anyone who likes low-speed handling. If you run about town in ‘sport’ mode, this improves the low speed performance at the cost of gasoline consumption. I am just not impressed by this car at all.

Sloppy hanging with a Turbo?!
Great looks inside and out but the MAZDA6 Turbo has lost its Zoom Zoom and traded it for a sloppy handling lead sled. Wish I had kept my 2016 GT w/ tech the package. MAZDA isn’t gonna stay in business if they loose the sporty ness and go luxury.
Absolutely astonished, but needs more power
I just bought a Touring trim Mazda 6 last weekend and, having it for a week, the car still astonishes me. The styling makes the vehicle stand out from those on the road, the premium interior makes it feel like it’s more expensive than what I paid for, and the technology that it’s packed with like blind spot monitoring, cross traffic, adaptive cruise, etc is a cherry on top. It’s ride is silky smooth and the engine seems to sip gas as I have not gotten any lower than 28mpg of combined city and highway driving. My only gripe is that with it being the touring trim, I wish it had more standard like a garage home link, auto dim mirrors, and heated mirrors. The engine could also do with a bit more power and it would have been nice if the 2.5l turbo was the base engine. I often enjoy myself in this vehicle in the back roads as its suspension setup and steering makes it highly responsive and fun to drive to the point that I feel like I’m driving a Miata instead of a sedan, but the engine being a bit underpowered can be a bit of a letdown. Still a wonderful car and maybe in some years I’ll trade for the top trim
