Solid, powerful and reliable. Great luxury SUV
We owned a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for 6 years before this, which was a solid and powerful SUV, but this GX is several rungs up the quality ladder. Ample, smooth power, VERY comfortable and quiet even at freeway speeds. Rock solid in the snow and rain and very reliable. 3rd row seats are handy, and easy to fold up or remove. Anyone who says it's difficult is mechanically inept. Literally takes < 1 min. Side swinging rear door is great in some situations, not so great in others. I personally like it, and the locking hinge open, feature is helpful. Not the best mileage at 14-15 mi. combined avg per gallon (much better on freeway), but it is a fairly large, heavy, luxury SUV with a V8, so actually not too bad. Handles great for its size, and the driving modes and right height adjustments really help for specific driving and road types. Only thing we've had to address in the 50K+ miles we've driven it was a new alternator. Was approx. $750 to replace, with parts& labor.

Unsurpassed Quaility and Off Road Capabilities
I traded up from a FJ Cruiser to this. In short, it's an amazingly comfortable SUV that excels at off road performance. Based on the Land Cruiser Prado sold pretty much everywhere else in the world except the US (think sand dunes and the bush), this truck is NOT a pimped out 4Runner. The full time 4WD, V8, rear air suspension, build quality, comfort and reliability combined make this rig unsurpassed for those who venture beyond the mall. These trucks are often referred to as out of date dinosaurs, and are compared to their unibody competitors who may outperform in terms of drivability and road manners; but this truck is built for towing, adverse driving conditions, and off-road capabilities while maintaining superior daily driver comfort for the whole family. If that’s not what you need, then look elsewhere. If it is, then look no further, spend a little extra up front, and drive it for another 200k miles. The KDSS version will decrease road body roll and improve off-road capabilities, as well, but they are hard to find. Not so great features include: limited 3rd row seating space and comfort, high (but rare) repair costs, fuel efficiency, styling (face it, it's ugly front most angles), and rear door.

Best of all luxury SUV
Of all the vehicles I have owned, this must be the best one suited for the whole family. Used to drive an Infiniti Q45 that was an excellent vehicle but not enough room, my wife drives a Honda Pilot, which I dread to drive because of intolerable road noise. The GX470 is the end result of my hours of research and test drives. It is like driving in the quiet comfort and luxury of my previous Q45, with the roominess of the Honda Pilot.
Great SUV,But...
For an SUV it's very good with plenty of space unless you have a family or carrying more than 5 people, then some issues arise. The third row isn't exactly spacious and kids will fight for the mid row to avoid the third. Gas mileage is self explinatory since it runs on a V8. Power is plenty when you need it on highways and even after years, the GX is still fairly quiet even with a V8. All in all, it is a great SUV, just be prepared for gas trips and the questionable third row.
Power, Comfort, & Reliability. GX470 FTW!
After we had our second child, we were looking to replace our '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee with something a bit larger, and higher end. With two kids, two large dogs, and the needed ability to tow and secure a motorcycle carrier to the tow hitch, the choices were limited. I researched several SUVs in this class, but all reviews and stats kept leading me back to the GX. I started looking for certified pre-owned GXs with low mileage, and there weren't many. I took that as a sign that these vehicles were sought after and kept. I finally found an immaculate '07 with only 25K miles on it. After we drove it, we realized why everyone gushes over their Lexus cars and suvs. It drives much smaller than it is, and it's really comfortable and very quiet. The power is awesome, especially off the line and charging uphill. It tows easily and has a tongue weight of 650+ lbs to handle my moto carrying needs. Interior storage space is more than ample. The 3rd row is handy when you need it, and easy to remove when you don't. Other than the 16mpg avg, I really have no complaints. We have taken our GX in the snow, mud, on icy roads, and everywhere in between, and it handles it all without flinching. I am thoroughly impressed, and would definitely recommend it. PROS: Powerful motor, smooth, quiet ride, car-like handling, comfortable seats, reliable, and go anywhere AWD CONS: Avg 16MPG, and the navigation is crap. (But, who uses the car nav with smartphones anyway?)

2007 Lexus GX 470
This is the greatest vehicle I've ever purchased. Fun to drive, and rides like a dream. We test drove 14 other SUVs before our purchase of the Lexus. We are thinking about purchasing another GX 470 and replacing our 2004 Jaguar XJ8.
2007 GX470
A Lexus mechanic checked out my car prior to purchase. Beware there are some trouble spots, but overall they are one of the most reliable vehicles you can buy. If you are a Lexus owner, you have access to all Lexus service records online (including records prior to your ownership). This is a great resource. We traded a RX330 for the GX, the GX has a much nicer interior and the build quality is amazing. Very pleased with the vehicle.

Lexus GX 470
This is my 2nd GX. This SUV gives the driver great command of the road, with all the bells and whistles. The GX drives very smooth, brakes are great as well as all the safety features.
Look back
I previously wrote of my frustrations with this SUV re: its quirks and lack of modern features. However, I live in the Midwest and we were hit with a torrential winter in 2010. I had no idea how awesomely this vehicle would perform in the snow and ice. It's unshakable. I felt very confident driving in ice and snow that left other trucks and SUVs in the snow bank. Unbelievably good traction.
Best vehicle I've ever owned.
Best vehicle I've ever owned. This is what you read most often when going through the reviews for this SUV. And it's true. I owned two of them - 2006 model few years ago, and owning 2007 model at the moment. Replaced 2006 with a much newer Toyota, but within less than a year switched back to 2007 GX. Although been an older SUV and may be lacking some modern features, its comfort, smoothnesses and build quality are still unmatched. At some point owning GX470 may even become boring: it doesn’t break, its so comfortable and quiet, that you start taking it for granted. But driving something else, even for a short period of time (like leased car during business trip or vacation), and then coming back to your GX, quickly reminds why you love it so much. The only con may be the gas milage, but thats the trade off for smoothnesses and power of V8. So yeah - best vehicle I've ever owned so far...

Very Versatile SUV
Traded in an RX for an SUV with more room, comfort and performance. So far, this truck has not disappointed. Great looking without being flashy, lots of room for large items, very comfortable on long trips and can get up and go if you hit the gas on the freeway.
Why spend so much money
I have bought new Cadillac Escalades, a new one every year starting in 02 . I live in the mountains of New Mexico and am not in good health so reliability and comfort are top of the list . I had never even consided a Lexus . Drove the GX 470 and that was all it took, I traded my 06 Cad. I am very hard to please and I am truly happy with this car. You feel safe in snow, mud and on the highway. Value, check on the new price then look at a used one . Lexus holds its value. The heating and cooling are just right. This is a 4x4 built for comfort and 20 mpg is great when you consider what American 4x4's get.
More Practical Interior Cabin Design
Purchased it new in May 2007 with 4 miles on it (now has 4300+ miles). Traded in our Mercedes ML430 which was purchased new in June 1999. I drive my daughter everywhere in the Lexus & as a mom here are my 'annoyances': uncomfortable arm rest, not enough/poor center compartment design, unreachable CD-changer in glove compartment, shallow/poor location of front cup holder, inaccessible cup holders for rear seats when baby car seat is used in the center, rear seat A/C but not heat, swing open tailgate vs. lift-up, can only power on sound (not video) from front console for entertainment system - must use remote control to power on. No issues with technical & mechanical aspects whatsoever!
Love my Lexus
I purchased a used 2008 Lexus GX470 2 weeks ago with just 7500 miles. I love this car! I previously drove an Acura MDX and this vehicle is so much more comfortable. The ride is smooth and there is no road noise at all. My only issue: my Blue tooth. I can hear perfectly but no one seems to hear me! Hopefully, this can be fixed. If you enjoy an SUV but yearn for the smooth ride of a luxury sedan, consider this model!
9.5/10, just a few things to work on
This vehicle is amazing. It has power and is full of torque. It has great pick up and the technology is fantastic. I'm very pleased with the comfort and the leg space, and the rear view camera is worth its weight in gold!
This is the one!
What can I say about this 4runner's brother and FJ cruiser's cousin in a suit and tie. I've owned about 3 cars in the past year hoping to find the one that I'd own for a while after my last car was totaled. I finally came across this one and I think this one is a winner. I like a good highway cruiser and typically only looked for long wheelbase (used) luxury sedans. However, after being bitten by the adventurous offroading bug thanks to my friends, I caved and had to have something with offroading capability. This one popped up at a dealership as I was trading in my M5 and immediately jumped at the opportunity. The water pump was leaking (dealership replaced for me) but considering it still had the original pump and t-belt at 152k I knew this one would warn me well in advance before I need worry about being stranded on the side of the road or giving me unnecessary stress as to whether it would start in the morning. MPG is... well.... it's a V8 truck. You don't buy these and expect anything better than 16-18 mpg (What I get). Ride is comfortable as can be as expected. Off roading capabilities are extraordinary and can definitely hang with others on the trail. Haven't had a problem yet with the running boards. Might have to push it harder to scratch them. I tend to take the less daring way off road. Have 5 seats more than usually needed, but the cargo space I can't do without. You can feel the beasts weight in the corners but again, it's an truck. Probably should stop driving it like one of my old cars. One thing I do like is the torque from a stop. Again it isn't sports car fast, but oh man does it get up and go. With 152k, I'm waiting for the air suspension to bite the dust, but knowing Lexus/Toyota reliability, that will be a while I hope. Overall, I think I've found the truck I will keep for a while.

It really is this good
After driving a Durango for many years, we wanted something a little nicer but still powerful enough to keep up our active outdoor lifestyle. We were looking at the Sequioa, but decided that for a little more the GX had all that we wanted and more. This is a great deal. The vehicle performed on a recent road trip under conditions ranging from 110 degrees to below 32 without any issues. It handled on ice, snow, mud, dirt, rock and pavement better than expected. Performance is unbelieveable when you accelerate. It tows like a truck and the engine doesn't even balk. Sometimes it is easy to forget that you aren't driving a luxury sedan. The only close competition is the Mercedes GL class.
Great vehicle, not as reliable as Lexus reputation
Purchased this as a CPO in 2013. It had 40,000 miles at that time, now has 155,000. It's a solid, comfortable, incredibly capable vehicle. Still only one or two small rattles, it drives very smoothly on highway, and of course can go wherever you aim it off the road. I bought a Lexus, thinking I would change oil, battery, and tires, and otherwise have perfect reliability. Maybe that was too much to expect. In our 9 years of ownership, we have had about 5 major repairs, the last 3 of which were after the extended warranty ran out: One of the air suspension bladders developed a leak; the A/C went out (could consider that a maintenance item, I suppose, but it was $2000 to fix); and one of the tire inflation sensors went out. Only the air suspension problem made the vehicle a little unsafe until we got it repaired. Overall, we have loved almost every minute with the GX, and would probably buy another one if the circumstances warrant. For now, we'll just keep this one and keep on truckin'.

2008 GX 470 - Rock Solid
I purchased the vehicle 2 years ago to keep at my place in CO. It is used for ski trips in very bad road conditions, hardware store runs, touring state parks and going off road on occasion. The vehicle is well maintained, but lives a hard life and it drives like a new vehicle despite having 120,000 miles on it. It is not as refined as newer vehicles, but that said I don't think I could find a more reliable vehicle that drives as well as this one in all the conditions I encounter in CO. I would buy another GX470 without question.

This is my dream car
Absolutely L-O-V-E everything about my new Lexus. GORGEOUS to look at and wonderful to drive. I had a Toyota Sequoia before (which I also loved) but this is an SUV that drives like a car - so smooth! Everyday I thank my husband for my new toy!
Love This Vehicle, Glad I Got One!
Traded my 2001 4Runner for a 2008 Lexus GX. What a great upgrade from the Toyota model to their luxury brand. This vehicle rides amazingly smooth. It is a little thirsty on the tank, but hope this improves over time. The seats are extremely comfortable and all the features in it are just wonderful to use. We love the looks we get riding around town in this. You see why Lexus is at the top of their game.
COMFORT.......QUIET.......RELIABLE.....LUXURY
Greatest used vehicle that i've ever owned. Besides changing oil & refreshing fluids, replace battery is all i've done in 7 years!

Quiet, Powerful, Joy to Drive
This is my 4th Lexus SUV, and by far my favorite. It's unbelievably quiet, and tows a 6x10 covered trailer like nobody's businesss. LOVE the audio-in port, in which I can play my iPod or anything else. Brakes are steady and strong, not grabby. The new nav is mind- boggling and easy to use, and the bluetooth phone interface blows me away. There's lots of room for pax and cargo, and my dog loves the ease of access to the way back. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
Versatile, Comfortable, Impressive
I picked up my GX in 3/08. I wanted to wait awhile before posting a review to allow for some perspective. The craftsmanship and build quality is fantastic. Power train the smoothest I've experienced (previous BMW owner). The car has been 100% trouble free so far (14K miles). No squeaks or rattles to speak of. Superb driving position and seats. Having just moved into a new house with a new baby, this car has been very useful for carrying boxes, etc. Rock solid in snow as well. Wish gas mileage was better though; I've been averaging 17.5 mpg on premium. I would recommend this car as long as you don't mind the mileage.
Beast
This thing is a beast when comes to snow. The miltary should pick this vehicle up. When it snows I feel like I can go any where. I wish it was a little bigger, of course i have the same complaint on most foreign automobiles. Third row seating is poor but it is a easy fix to take them out. i havent figured out this cassette thing is on the sound system. feel like I can go
Still love it - after a year
I was the first one here to write a review (see bottom). It has been a year and a month and a happy 14,000 miles since I got my 2008 GX470. What can I say, I STILL LOVE IT. I feel like 100 bucks when I get in and I know I made the right choice when I get out. Every day I look forward to driving the car. I use it primarily for commuting to my workplace (40 miles both ways). When I get home it feels nice to know that this great vehicle is waiting for me in the morning. I had 2 problems: driver side mirror was sticking and my aluminum wheels had some black spots. Both problems were fixed promptly and the dealer even apologized for the inconvenience. I will drive this truck forever!
Great Lux Truck
This is a great SUV. It has great off road ability and as such some of the on road ride/performance is sacrificed but if you take it off road or drive in weather you will appreciate it. If your primary use is on road and in clear road conditions, you may want to go with another option. But if you drive off road, in snow, heavy rain etc. this is a great choice. I also am evidently one of the few that like the swing out door. It makes loading heavy objects (luggage, mulch etc,) simpler because you don't have to reach over a lowered tailgate. I have encountered more issues with ceiling height (garage) interfering with flip up gates than the swing out. 30,000 miles, not one problem.
Truck in a Tuxedo
Just traded my 04 GX for an 07. Very reliable vehicle. Love the new generation NAV and Bluetooth. After shopping most of the lux brands, I still think the Lexus Nav is by far the best. I ski and the old GX was a great performer in the white powder of Tahoe. The drive is very comfortable and balanced no matter what the outside road conditions are.
Better than a new American Suv
Bought a GX 3 years ago from florida and it was rust free with low miles and I have no issues. According to GXOR on Facebook the members have alot of these withover 350,000 miles as daily drivers, or they spend thousands making them into offroad rigs. Very Reliable
Accept no substitutes!
I can't say enough great things about this truck! It's a phenomenal piece of machinery and if you love the 4runner, the GX 470 will put it to shame and make you wonder why you ever drove one! The ride is smooth. The interior is plush and luxurious. It rides so quiet! As many have said already, there are a few things that need improving but that's the advantage when you own one. You know it will only be a few years before they roll out the next new model. I just couldn't be happier. I traded my RX350 in for this and I think I made an excellent choice. Much roomier, not too much difference on the gas mileage and it's just a more solid vehicle. Truly outstanding product!
We Love It
This is my 5th Lexus, had two ES 300 sedans, and this is my third GX 470. We love the luxury ride, the look, the amenities, the comfort, and the regular mountain driving is superb. I trade every two years, and don't think I would ever consider another car as nothing I have seen matches the quality and the Lexus service.
Just Bought My Lexus
We bought our GX on 12/24/07. We looked at the Sequoia and the Yukon. I drove all three. The GX blows the other two away in driving luxury. We were selling our 12 yr old Jeep Grand Cherokee and needed something bigger. The Lexus is a great SUV for both road trips and everyday driving. 3 days after buying it we put drove it to the UP Michigan for a ski vaca. Drove great in the snow and the long distance. Third row is easy to remove for extra storage. I thought I'd hate the way the hatch opens in the rear, but I am liking how easy it is to get things in and out. My only complaint is I wish the side mirrors folded in mechanically and the third row folded flat, that's it.
Now my old lady wants one too
This is our 2nd Lexus but first Lexus SUV w/ a V8 eng. This baby's ride is so smooth and quiet it's amazing that it have a V8 under the hood. The acceleration is awesome especially when getting on freeway I have to learn not to step on the gas pedal too hard if there is car in front of me, otherwise I have to step on brake or I'm going to rear-end it. We both love to drive so much that my wife want one too.
They Just Keep Getting Better
This is my 5th Lexus, and I have previously owned the LX 470. My GX has almost all the great amenities the LX did, but because it is a little smaller, much easier to manuever. Not to sound sexist, but this vehicle fits a man. My wife likes it, but prefers her RX 350 AWD. And that is just fine with me! I am averaging just over 18 MPG. From my frame of reference, that's decent. If I had wanted great mileage, I would have bought a Prius. The ride is great, the stereo surround sound is great, and it is very quiet. What else could one ask for?
Simply the Best
I bought an 08 GX 470 for my wife and love every bit of this truck. I own an 06 Trailblazer SS and love it to death. I can say the Lexus out performs the SS in every category except performance. The Lexus is tight The doors don't rattle when you shut them. At the age of 33 I'm really sick of all the American cars I've had. I guess I'm getting old and tired of dealing with the problems. GX 470 is awesome.
If I knew then & Look Before You Leap
Service, build quality, and drive could not be more impressive but this is the first car I have not connected with. It just seems to have no soul if you know what I mean. It's personality is vanilla - unless u frequently drive off road. I loathe the navigation system. You can't do anything with it while u drive (including read song and artist names of music u are playing). No rear heat controls nor rear heated seats. 3rd row is a joke. My 5'1" wife cannot put the rear seats up or down... Terribly difficult. Not enough cabin storage for this size vehicle. Spend time with this car before you own it. This is a real SUV - Not a fun car to own just to carpool around town in.
Love My Lexus
This is my first Lexus and I love it. I traded in my BMW 530 because I now have 5 grandchildren and I needed more room. I looked at the Volvo X90 and the 3rd row seat was not very accessible, Sequoia and Tahoe are too big. This LX 470 is just right. The third row seats are very easy to fold up and down. The ride is very smooth and luxurious. The bluetooth and navigation system are easy to use. I am very happy I bought this car.
Best Luxury SUV
Love It! Ride quality is a 10. Build quality is a 10. Silky smooth from start to finish.
Affordable & Excellent Overlander
Bought used in 2021 with 150,000 miles, one owner and good records. Best SUV we've owned. Put a 3" lift, larger tires, sliders and have driven all over 4 x 4 trails in Colorado. Much more comfortable than a Jeep and very good off road. Yes, MPG isn't good and it doesn't have all the new tech but it doesn't break down either. It is a 14 year old SUV that drives like new. No rattles or leaks (like a Jeep) nothing falling off (like trim on a Mini Countryman). Our Mini also had high pressure fuel pump fail at 5,000 miles! And everyone knows what happens to a Jeep after about 100k miles. A made in Japan Lexus like the GX makes it one of the best. Why can't others build an SUV like this that just lasts?

Excellent decision
This is my first Lexus and I am very pleased with my purchase. The ride is smooth and the technology updates are great. I was over 1k miles in no time.
2007 Lexus GX 470
This handles and drives so much nicer than my Toyota Sequoia. The gas mileage averages about 18 combined city/hwy. This is a great luxury SUV that drives very smoothly down the road. It also performs very well in the snow and mud offroad.
loving my gx470
Just bought my GX470. Its much roomier than my RX. Loving the car. The SUV hugs the road, drives great and Lexus's comfort is unmatchable to any other car.
Money buys happiness!
Luxury and power. Built on a solid truck frame yet the ride control feature allows an adjustable ride. Able to tow 6500pounds. Currently tow a 3000 pound boat, mpg 13. Comfortable is all respects plus give the feeling of safety. Well thought design but should have a larger gas tank. Easily earns its consumer report outstanding "recommended buy" rating.

Almost as Good as an AWD LS 460
We purchased this car when my Sequoia died and I was left with an LS with RWD. I compromised with the GX thinking to replace it when the LS came out with AWD. Now, I'm not so sure. The GX is almost as good. I'm 6'2" and at 285 lbs, having done more than my share of weight lifting, I need comfort for my frame and plenty of space. The GX does it. It goes anywhere if you keep it shod with good tires, and never ever breaks down. I travel a lot and need absolute reliability and this vehicle delivers. It draws positive attention without being obnoxious. Fuel economy, at an average of 18.9 is actually outstanding for a vehicle of this size. Would I buy another--Yes.
Poor Trade in Value
Purchased my GX470 new in 2007. Very comfortable rise and fun to drive. Outstanding DVD and sound system. Multi-CD/DVD exchanger hard to reach. Arm rest on front seats are annoying as they keep locking in up positions. Poor gas MPG (18). Third row seating cramped. Worst complaint is depreciation value. Pd. $58,000+ new, 1 1/2 yrs later, trade in value is $27K - $31K. (27K - 31K lost in 1 1/2 yrs. Unbelievable!!)
Def not a 4Runner
Owned 3rd gen and 4th gen 4runners, this is nothing like them. I've rented the newest 4Runner on a week long trip and this is nothing like that vehicle. I have owned a Nissan Xterra and a Mitsubishi Montero Sport. I've also owned MANY fast sports cars. My family's kiddo count just went from 2 kids to 5...we had TRIPLET boys 7 months ago. While we hardly ever need to haul all children in one vehicle BUT the Sienna I bought my wife got stuck in gear in a parking lot one day because the shifter cable from cabin to transmission broke by way of retainer bushing failure (not the cable itself). My fast car was a BMW M3 at that time. So, I made two trips in that car to take the wife and kids back home while AAA took the sienna back to our house so that I could install a new corrected cable/bushing from Toyota. I work nights and had to work the following night so I put the vehicle work off for 3 days. Wife was not happy that we were down to a single cab pickup (used to haul our dirtbikes to the mottocross track) and my M3. So, here we are...I traded my coveted M3 for this Lexus GX 470. I want to cry, but let me tell you this GX 470 will make those tears a bit smaller and will perhaps even allow them to run dry a bit faster too. See this thing rides like a dream on the highway and I was watching videos of them off-roading before I decided on it vs a ton of othe SUV's I could have bought. I took the GX 470 to the freakin' motocross track and it got around a DIRTBIKE track (at low speeds granted) like nobody's business. My 4runners would have MAYBE made it, the Xterra may have made it, but I honestly kinda doubt they would. What I do know with no doubt at all is that this crazy Lexus SUV made it around that track and some of those jump faces are 15' formidable, steep, inclines. To be honest I kinda wanted this vehicle to pay a price...I had to sell my M3 to get it. I didn't bash it but I was kind of telling it "you had better be what I expected or else"....it was what I expected and then some. Can't go wrong with this thing. I considered Land Cruisers, Escalade ESV's, LX 470, and GX 460...I know the escalade sounds way off beat but they're kinda cool.

My Great Lexus
This is my 5th GX470 & my 15th New Lexus I just love them. They never break. Best vehicle on the road.
Great car for the price
I just picked up my new car last night. Already put 200 miles and loving it. If you want speed, performance and fuel economy, get something else. If you want plush luxury ride with great ergonomics this is it. I had 2000 LX 470 which was a little too big for me. My wife has a 2007 RX 350 - a little too small for me and too many chicks riding in that. But when I got into GX, I knew right away, its a match made in heaven.
Great 2007 GX 470
This is an excellent vehicle!
