The Soul is unique, stands out in a crowd, and a great value!
Kia and Hyundai are the same company, and both build great, value packed vehicles. The KIAs are more targeted towards people who like sporty and stand out styling in their daily drivers. I love my 2013 KIA Soul Exclaim..and after more than a year after purchase has proven to be reliable, extremely well made and overall a fun car. The standard level of equipment is astonishing for what you pay. The powerful 8 speaker Infinity sound system for example is the best I've heard in ANY car. It even includes a separate powered sub-woofer! 8 speakers in total!
Engine went with no warning
We purchased car brand new. Serviced at dealer always. Motor went at $104,000 with no warning. Same issue Kia recalled millions of cars for. We have been back and forth with Kia for 2 years with no luck. They state our car not on list to be fixed. Dealership wanted to charge $14,000! For new motor.
KIA= Killed in Action
Nothing but problems. Kia difficult to deal with. Gas mileage is not as promised. Gas gauge has too much float Head unit quit working, been replaced Wheel speed sensor almost killed me and a friend throwing my car into limp mode. Ignition switch shorted out and had to be replaced. Radio cutting out. Again. Lights and wipers cut out. Oh did I mention the horrible shake, hard shift, failure to downshift?
junk
worst car I ever owned.poor mileage, poor quality. already replaced steering column, and injectors
Great used car
That it doesn't come with a spare tire.

Noisy
If you haven't bought one of these yet when on your test drive make sure you take it out on the interstate then roll the back windows down about halfway. The noise and vibration you will have is un bearable. You can't even talk to anyone not even the passenger. In addition roll down the drivers window about two inches while the back windows are down. It will shake so violently you will think it will shatter. I have spoken to many KIA dealers and they say this is a definite design flaw on several of their vehicles and cannot be resolved. They have contacted KIA engineering and they suggest keeping the windows rolled up at high speeds. Yeah right. Had I know this I would have NEVER bought one

Easy to buy, easy to operate.
Be aware there are several models of the KIA Soul. Mine is a Base, which means I didn't pay for extra electronic frills. Update: At 72,000 I still recommend the vehicle to anyone needing cheap, reliable transportation and the ability to easily haul small loads. There have been the usual minor repairs, e.g. the windshield water pump system. This winter the battery drained quickly. Word of mouth amongst the mechanics was that as the KIAs aged, the system that powered the door locks was devouring the battery power. ?! Solution? New battery and do not engage the powered door locks from the key fob. Problem solved because local KIA dealership works well with independent mechanic shops!

It loves gas stations
Believe me, if you decide on the 2.0 engine...think again unless you love putting out money for gas. When I fill the tank, it shows only a range of 250 miles. Iam constantly filling it up. Terrible terrible gas mileage. I love the car but I sure will be trading it in before too long due to the gas mileage Three years later Im on my second car after I got rid of the Soul. Nuff said In this new review 4/2018, I do have to say I miss the whole Soul stature. We have had 3 cars since being as my wife and I share leases, and I will just check on the latest Soul in spring of 2019 when my current Honda lease is up

Look At Something Else
Ok so here is the deal at this point I have over 12000 miles on the car. I bought it in Jan 2013. I knew about some of the bad things like bad blind spot at the rear of the car and the MPG not so great but there are more bad starting to show up like the following: 1. It is noise like crazy when it rains you can hear the rain on top of the car. It sounds like you are in a tin can. 2. The road noise is bad with the windows down but even worse with them up. 3. The paint is starting to chip in some places. 4. The wippers leave a streak in the middle of the drivers side and KIA wont fix it and says the work fine. Bottom line dont get one
tremendously disappointed
Ironically I had a kia soul plus, one that I got in 2010 and I had no complaints with it. I had a wreck in December of 2012 and had to get another car. I chose to upgrade and get another soul exclaim, premium package. BIG MISTAKE!! It is an extremely bumpy ride and my kia plus wasn't like that so I was confused by this!!! The leather seats are so hard I had to get a cushion to place on the seats. Whenever I clean my seats or sit on them, lent is always left on them. No matter what I do, lent is always left!!!! Plus i have nothing but problems with the Bluetooth!! The mpg is acceptable I guess and the wheel turns nicely. Those are the redeeming qualities. ALL in all i'm disappointed.
Great Car
This was a purchase for a second scoot around town car. It is great for that.

Love this car
I don’t like sedans, but then big SUVs are too big. The Soul is simple and roomy, easy to transport large items..

Soul Needs Frequent Patching
In 2016 I bought a 2013 Soul ! that was a one owner vehicle with low mileage. Shortly after purchasing it with only 30,000 miles on it I had to replace the coil packs, spark plugs, battery, brakes, and tires. At 40,000 miles I had to replace the brakes again and front struts and rear shocks. I also noticed that the engine burned about a quart of oil per month. At 50,000 miles I had to replace tie rod ends, stabilizer end links, brakes again, and another set of coil packs and spark plugs. Now losing about a quart of antifreeze every month and a quart and a half of oil. between 50,000 miles and 87,000 miles it needed O2 sensors, more brakes, rotors front and rear, ball joints, headlight bulbs, turn signal bulbs, brake lights, interior lights, stereo and speaker service along with a few other things. Fast forward to May of 2025 and it broke down in the middle of nowhere with a flashing check engine light and P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 codes. We had to sleep overnight in a shady hotel. In the daylight luckily there was an auto parts store a quarter mile down the road where I was able to get new plugs, a couple of quarts of oil, antifreeze, and some mass air flow cleaner. All four plugs were fouled out again with oil and before it stopped there was technicolor smoke coming out the exhaust. I cleaned out the cylinders and installed the new plugs filled it back up with oil and antifreeze and the radiator clearly had oil in it. So the head gasket was shot. I was able to drive it home slowly and made it to a dealership where I promptly traded it in on another one owner car but definitely never buying another Kia. Oh and did I mention that the passenger side window would roll down, but not up from the drivers switch only the passenger switch, and the paint (Alien Green) completely faded to a light grey, about 4 years ago. About the only good think I can say about the Soul is the transmission never gave me any problems.

Wonderful car
Awesome little car
Gas mileage terrible
The reason I rated this a "1" is because of the gas mileage. I have the 2011 Soul 2.0. I wanted more bells and whistles so I had to accept the larger engine. Terrible terrible terrible gas mileage. On a full tank, I only get a range of 259 miles at best. It sucks up the gas like as if youre driving a big ol Buick back in the day. I may consider another Soul when I trade this but deffinitely not the larger engine. Its just terrible
Uber Life!
I have the 2013 Kia Soul, and I Uber. I need to be able to download the Waze app and the Uber app as well as use GPS. Can I do that with the console in the 2013 soul? And if not, what year can I do it in? And if not then KIA needs to be working on these features ASAP.
