I have always loved the Jeep style so I bought the four door and loved it... until 69,000 miles. That's when the spider gear went out. It was covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty because I bought it new in 2008. I was told Jeep wouldn't cover it because the spider gear wasn't under the warranty coverage. If the spider gear isn't powertrain, I don't know what is. I threw a fit to Jeep and they finally covered it. It stayed in the shop a week. I went to go get it and was told the axle seals were leaking. So it was gone another week. Got it back and the axle seals were still leaking. They replaced them again. After that, it never worked right again.

35 years as a Jeep customer

I have owned Jeep Wranglers since 1974 and I have yet to be disappointed in any way. I have owned 8 all together and at the present time I'm in a 2008 Wrangler Sahara. I don't work for Chrysler, so I don't get employee discounts, and I still buy Jeeps. I feel safe and free to travel at any time in any weather that the Michigan climate can dish out. My job depends on me showing up for work every day bad weather or not. And my Jeep Wrangler gives me this feeling. I know what to expect and what not to expect from a Wrangler, same as you would from a Corvette or a pickup truck. I am very pleased with all my jeeps and I at the age of 60 years old I don't plan on any changes. Thank you.

A few problems over the years but I love it.

I will start out with the negative. I have had the brake calipers seize up on me and burn up the breaks. just one at a time but all four did seize up at one time or another. Obviously this required a brake job but to fix the calipers, I just popped out the pistons, cleaned out the cylinder and replace the seal. Only cost a couple of $ each to do and about 15-20 minutes per. The break lines will rust through and you will loose your breaks. This is covered under an extended manufacturers warranty until 2020. The front windshield defroster is absolutely horrible. In many situations, only the front middle 50% of the windshield defrosts but the outer sections will not clear. For the driver this means that you can loose all visibility to the left front of the vehicle with out getting out and clearing off the ice and snow. Non existent arm rest for the left arm/elbow and a poor one for the right (driver side). Installed after market ones to make the vehicle comfortable. Wind noise at highway speeds, this is a fact but to be expected due to the non existent aerodynamics of the body stile. This is not a complaint just a known and expected fact. For Jeep Wrangler owners/enthusiasts this is not an issue or problem. For others it might be If you want no wind noise, get a Grand Cherokee. Poor gas millage. This is just a fact for this type of vehicle. If you want good gas millage get a Jeep Compass. But I would not give this vehicle up for the world. I just love it. Mine is still in perfect cosmetic condition and it is not garage kept. Even with the Chicago winter salt conditions. I just replaced my tires for the first time after 70K Miles The OEM tires were OK but not great. Mine has the 18" rim option so tire choice is a bit limited. I replaced mi warn out tires with Cooper Discoverer AT/3 265-70 R18 tires, one size larger than stock for the stock rims and I love the vehicle even more than before. I do take the vehicle hunting a couple of times a year so the off road function is actually used for other things than Ice and Snow as an average suburban housewife would use it for. I am not sory that I purchased this vehicle at all. I want to keep it as long as I can.

Used ex-BLM Rubicon

I bought my Rubicon two years ago with 50k miles. I've since put 49k miles on it. I found a couple receipts in the glove box that indicated it was owned by BLM. If I'd know that ahead of time I may not have purchased. but I'm glad I did. In the two years of heavy use I have owned it there has been no reliability issues. Performance: The 3.8 is a dog! Maybe it's better with a manual tranny. Comfort: This is the Cadillac of Wrangers. Very comfortable, car like ride. Value: expensive, but well equipped. Fun to drive: If it had more torque it would be great. Interior design: Its a Jeep Exterior design: I like the removeable fenders. Build qualilty: Its a Jeep Reliability: Great
