Jeep Guy
Good car, wish they still kept making them after 2001. Good value, 4WD and space at a very affordable price. Why did they stop and replace with the smaller, uglier Liberty?
Once you go Jeep, you never go steep.
I've had my Jeep now for about a year and I've put on about 20k miles on it. Bought it at 71k miles, it's got 91k on it now. I had to replace the radiator and the TPS sensor. Radiator was cracked before I bought it evidently due to all of the stop leak in it when I took it out. Other than that, this thing has been a dream. The family loves it, it's very roomy, reliable, and so comfortable to drive. For not being a full-size vehicle, you feel like you are in command of the road and plus you aren't taken over by the thing either like a full-size. It laughs at any bad weather condition too. I will be keeping this Jeep for a very long time.

Best Jeep Ever
This is our second car, the other being a Grand Cherokee. When the announced the last of the classic Cherokees, we headed out and bought a fully loaded Limited version to keep long term. This is our third Cherokee and we love this vehicle. It is powerful, fun to drive, rugged good looks, comfortable and it was the most vehicle for the money I have ever seen. It has never let us down and has had not one problem with anything. I have a few issues but overall, this last of the Cherokees was the best of them all. If you don't have to drive the most refined vehicle around, this Jeep's for you.
Great Jeep
Bought this 2001 Cherokee Sport with 82K, and it was a great vehicle to own. Drove great through snow and mud, but also had a smooth highway ride. Engine provided plenty of power, however was also very thirsty. A very well-built, reliable Jeep.
grows on you
This is my first Jeep. And I love it. Once you get past the poor gas mileage and lack of creature comforts you realize this is a workhorse SUV meant to take whatever you dish out every day. I do whatever I want with it. Fish, hunt, urban cruising, snow, rain, dirt, etc. I even commute in it. The engine light is annoying but I just consider it an old friend now who comes to visit from time to time. A easy and FREE trip to any auto parts store gets you a free computer reading that tells you to relax about the engine light. Very useful for moving refrigerators, dogs, military gear, bikes, kids, canoes, wood, etc. Easy to clean, easy to dirty. FUN, cheap and reliable.
Why Jeeps should be MORE expensive
The Jeep Cherokee Sport 1998 edition. This Well crafted vehicle should be priced at a more extravagent price i bought my Jeep in 2001 at 19,000 now i cant even get 11,000 for it (not that i am selling)
tank
I'm 16 and got this car for my first. It has 137,000 on it an other than flushing all the fluids this thing is a tank and it just cant be stopped. Winter is coming up which should be fun to see how it handles.
Nothing Like It
There is nothing like the Jeep Cherokee. I bought my Jeep with ~50,000 miles on it back in 2004. It rides rough, but this rugged vehicle was bult to last. After driving it over 60,000 miles I have had to replace the AC condenser, tires, battery, and brake rotors (my Fault). Nothing else has been replaced. I have hauled almost 1000 lbs of crap in the back of it at one time. I still love Charolette (my Jeep).
2001 Jeep Cherokee -- and excellent SUV
It's classical style combines with top notch performance for an excellent style. Peforms perfectly in any condition, from the interstate to blazing it's own trails across a mountain. The limited includes all the comforts you need for a classy vehicle, but retains all the capabilities that Jeep is renowned for. I'll be a Jeep owner for life!
Not carseat friendly!
It was great until I had a baby. The rear doors are just not large enough nor open wide enough to comfortably put the baby carrier in and out. Many average sized adults have difficulty getting in & out as well. Especially if the front seats are slid back. Not something I acn deal with. I will be looking for something different, especially when the 2nd child comes along. Don't know how I will fit 2 carseats!
Low Maintnance and durable
Purchase my jeep used with 70k miles in 2004. It now has 122k miles and drives and runs no different than the day I bought it. Only maintenance I have done is change oil, change transmission fluid(once), replace rear shocks (once), and a brake job (once). Jeep has plenty of power and will easily do 100mph. It is durable and handles great in the snow. It can go offroad anywhere 98% of people would need / want to go. I wish it were a little quieter on the road and go better gas mileage (but you can't avoid the fact that it is a box on wheels and about as non-aerodynamical as a car could be).
The Anti - Escalade
The Cherokee is the purest SUV on the road, and is a perfect example of form following function. The Cherokee's simple, clean lines make it a handsome standout amongst the gawdy road yachts of today. It accelerates and corners like a roadster, it can pull like a Mack Truck, and it can go through snow like a ski-doo. What a beautiful thing. No DVD players, no navigation systems, no dual climate zones. There is nothing about a Cherokee that distracts you from it's purpose. This truck is built to be fun as all heck on the road, and rock steady off the road.
Liberty is No Equal to the Cherokee!
Jeep should have never stopped making this wonderful 4x4. A true classic that can not be replaced by current models. Now will have to wait for the Jeep Rescue!
super car
This is my 3rd Cherokee and loved them all. I've had this for 9 years and it runs fantastic. Nothing but oil, tires and brakes in all these years. Off road it totally kicks. It is nimble, quick, engineered very well for its purpose. It is just a very lively and capable JEEP. I expect it to last many more years.
Mediocre at Best
I had to have the transmission replaced after 6 years. Of course, I could be dealing with a dishonest repair shop. Chronic problem with number 3 misfire, rattling, drive train seems to clunk in rear and under shifter. I am not rough on the car, I do not off road, but I do use the car off road occasionally for hunting, fishing, or snowy conditions.
Buyer BEWARE
Purchased new in 2001. Vehicle has been back to dealer five (5) times for brake noise. Roters and Pads replaces at 11000 miles. Dealer said "It's normal for jeep", "Expect brakes and roters every 9 to 12k". Road noise is terrible, have to yell at passenger, there is no head room, and seat travel is minimal. Just traded it with 22K for Honda CR-V. Will never buy Jeep again!!
MITY SUV
I come from a family of Jeeps, so it was sorta logoical when i got mine. Grandma had one for 15 years before it caught fire, and she ended up replacing it with another cherokee. Mine does anything i want it to and i have yet to get it stuck anywhere, and thats WITH everything stock. The only thing i did after i bought it was repalce the Goodyears that came on it..disgusting things they were. Put Michelin Cross Terrain SUV's on it. Havn't had any major problems except for a 4x4 issue, but that ended up being a fault of the dealer. Excellent in the snow and off road. Anyways, if you can find one, i highly recommend it!
the funnest toss-about ever
This is one of the most fun vehicles I've driven. With secure on road handling and "go anywhere" capability it shows you what a Jeep is all about.
GREAT SUV
I put this SUV through its paces and it just amazes me. Great look, reliability and performance for the Northeast. Too bad they discontinued this line and style. I'm keeping this SUV until the sport Cherokee comes back.
The real thang
This vehicle is the best I have ever owned. It's a kick to drive, has a classic, handsome style that stands out more as new models of SUVs get weirder and weirder. I wish I had waited for a 4X4, but my wife had to have our gunmetal blue Cherokee. Backseat passengers tend to complain on long trips, but hey, it's not about them is it? We put an awesome sound system in it, and use Mobil One synthetics in the oil, tranny and differential. We change oil every 3,000, and the boy runs like the day we drove it off the lot (now at 102,000). So far, it has been Uber Reliable. This weekend I fixed the problem with the oxidation of the exterior plastic trim. We plan to keep this one forever.
like the "old-school" styling
To me, this suv just looks like an suv is supposed to: tough. The new Liberty looks too much like the old Rav4's--to rounded, small, and wimpy looking. I've enjoyed my Cherokee, and wish it would have snowed more often last winter. It plows through snow like a knife through butter. I think the V6 has pretty good acceleration, and it cruises at 75-85 mph quite smoothly. For only a V6, the gas mileage seems a bit low...only about 17-18 mpg on average. The inside could use more storage areas. There's not really anyplace to put things besides the armrest cavity and the glovebox.
Amazing SUV
This vehicle is amazing. I have owned two Jeeps, a 1991 Jeep Wrangler and this one; both with the 4 litre I6. But also, i'm still 16 so there will be plenty more to come. This Jeep does everything. It drives great, looks great, and is super comfortable. The engine is truly bullet proof. I was happily surprised with the amount of power it puts out, great for an suv. This little thing will go anywhere and do anything. Living in the northwest and having these winters are nothing for it. I can haul plenty of people and plenty of gear. My friends and i love it.
Super Awesome
Its a small, fun to drive SUV, perfect for a couple or a family of 3. The reason I say that is because it is a bit small in the back, but believe me, there is a good chance you wont regret buying one. I've owned mine for a year and only had one issue which is the leaking A/C, which was fixed. I have a 4 inch lift on 31" tires and this thing is unstoppable. I've had it in water holes over the HOOD and it just pushes through like its not there. I daily drive this to school and my cabin 100 miles away while towing a 2000 lb trailer and it just moves along happily. This is a TRUE Jeep and is not like the chinsy, cheap ones that they build today.

great little jeep
This is my 4th jeep cherokee, and I guess my last one since they quit making them. I love it. It powers up hills, flies past the slow moving vehicles on passing opportunities. When I had a toyota there was no passing allowed, it didn't have enough umhph. But cherokees, no problem. Its great off-road, its small dimensions are perfect for tight hairpin turns on narrow, steep dirt roads. And all my jeeps have been extremely reliable. nothing has gone wrong on them and I drove each one till 130,000 miles.
I love reading the Jeep reviews
Four Cherokee's....I'd buy four more. '84 ( black beauty } '93 ( black beauty II } '98 { green hornet )'01 { Brutis ). Brutis pulled a new Kia SUV with a tow package and a 2300 lb sterndrive boat hat was coupled to it out of our lake and up the ramp. And I didn't have to bother with low range! Enough said.
Great car in the snow!
My car is 15 years old now, with a lot of miles on it, and has lost some of its power going up in the mountains...acceleration power is limited...

junk
I just got this jeep and let me tell you it stinks! No power no good off road capabilities. Worst of all no room. I have a family of 4 and none of us are liking it. Im going back to my chevy Avalanch more room, power and better fuel milage.
great
im buyin another, they stopped making the xj model but im getting another used one the 4x4 system is the best and will last forever.
1500 mile winter road trip
Just completed a ski trip to Banff,Canada from Seattle, Washington. The Jeep is an awesome performer in the deep snow. Very comfortable ride. Great head light system and a very smooth V8 engine and transmission. We just sold our 1994 6cyl Larado which we liked very much ,but what a vast difference between cars. We love this vehicle.
keep jeep'in
i drive this hard had little problems only air compressor locked up,but for over the many years had not had to lay a finger on it
Poor Quality & Customer Service
I bought my Jeep Cherokee primarily due to the interior and exterior styling and positive reviews on the vehicle. Unfortunately, ongoing mechanical problems have been a nightmare. I will never purchase a Chrysler product again, as the poor quality of the vehicle and the horrible customer service on behalf of Golling Chrysler have proven that quality and customer satisfaction is not important to Chrysler.
Horrible in Wet Weather
I have the 2WD model and it's UNSAFE on any kind of wet pavement - in snow, rain, or even if someon's watering their lawn. If the road is wet, I have to be VERY careful about applying the brakes or making a turn. It's too light in the back and fishtails even at very low speeds. Forget about driving it in any kind of snow/ice. I wish I'd bought the base 4x4 instead of the 2WD Limited, but living in Dallas I didn't think I'd use 4x4. It also has an annoyingly LOUD humming / vibration when idling in cold weather, and it's very noisy on the road.
My 2001 Jeep Cherokee - A TIME BOMB!
I have not had my car 3 years and I just had to replace the engine (3 days after a regular tune-up at the dealership). The car broke down on a highway 130 miles from home. So far I have paid 3K out of pocket for thsi incident. Chrysler paid for parts b/c they know they made a poor quality engine. To top it all off - 1 day after picking my car up from the dealer with the new engine - the car broke down again - and I had to have the radiator replaced. I have always done all of the suggested maintinence on the car and should not have had this trouble.
2001 Jeep
This is a good vehicle. I wish it was a little more quiet. Also, it is rough, running and idleing. Power and handeling is wonderful.
Too bad they're gone
A great ride. Very capable offroad, with good power and low end torque.
last of great line
I'm reaching 75000 miles and my Jeep is going strong. Only problem was the A/C blower motor went out which was $500 in parts labor. Other than that, it's been normal upkeep and service. If you can find a 5spd manual I'd highly suggest it. With my modified intake, K&N filter, 62mm throttle body and flowmaster exhaust I pull 22-23 mpg city, and 25mpg on the freeway. It's been a reliable vehicle and has never let me down. After a decade of the Cherokee, the 2001 by far is the best model. Chrysler did a good job of working out all the bugs and quirks from previous models. If you want your leather seats, 40mpg, 0db noise, and weak engine go with a Hybrid, otherwise get a Jeep.
ALL JEEP!
Great Jeep! been around for a while... Hate to see the production stop!!!but you can bet twenty years from now these little bad boys will still be runnin around
my race truck
This truck is possibly the greatest vehicle of all time. It's fast (took off the restrictor plate and got it doing 125 mph). Its small and handles beautifully if your idea of beauty is a roll over waiting to happen at every turn, mine is. The small size does not bother me because I'm not a big guy but people in the backseat complain, they know where the door is. My Jeep has around 187,000 miles. And I drive this thing hard from offroading to the occasional street race. Guys with there little rice burner toyotas laugh at the start then I hit them with the incredible torque! The Jeep Cherokee should have been in diehard because it is unstoppable. Except for the a/c compressor it died at 100k miles
Great All-Purpose Rider
So far I've had no problems mechanically with this car. I've taken it off-road and it handles nicely, while on-road is even better. In general, for a vehicle with this kind of mileage (+50000) it's in good shape. It does have some problems, though. When 4 wheel drive high range is engaged, if you make a sharp turn the wheels lock. Also, when put in reverse for too long, it sometimes stalls or sputters. You need to find the right kind of tires, too. Wet handling is below average, even with 4WD. The vehicle corners well for an SUV and has a good turn radius, just make sure it's not cornering heavily above 50mph. At speeds above 80 on a straightaway highway, it becomes very shaky.
Excellent Jeep.
I've always loved Jeeps. I bought this Jeep from our local Toyota dealership back in 2003. I just couldn't resist this Jeep classic. It's been such a wonderful vehicle to own. Never had any problems with it. The engine is a bit loud, compared to other SUVs. But it's not, really. It's the typical Jeep Cherokee sound. And the torque on this thing is tremendous! I got the Limited model. The interior has a nice, clean layout. The heated leather front seats are excellent during winter. Great sounding stereo. This is our weekend ride. We take it for nice, long leisurely drives, always confident that we can to anywhere and back in our Jeep.
Not bad
My 2001 Jeep Cherokee works just fine. I have a slight shimmy at 50 MPH but that may because of some bad wheels. I needed to have my AC rebuilt (70k) and I needed an expensive brake job (60k). The power steering sprung a leak ($400 at 60k). Besides that, it's OK.
What A Jeep
It is a blast to drive!!!
2000 CLASSIC 4X4
Purchased my 2000 Classic 4 X 4 used with 18600 miles. Previously had a 99 Wrangler with 70,000 miles on it and wanted something a little more practical. It now has 24000 miles on it and in that time I have had to replace the front rotors--they came at a hefty price tag--and had the rear window washer pump replaced under warranty. The power is great, fuel economy if driven correctly is impressive, and I like the transmission. Haven't had the opportunity to go through snow, but am looking forward to it!!!
Jeeperz
Best all around car. Fun on and off road. it's one of three Jeeps we have. I got it with 80K miles and drive it hard. Easy to fix up with many upgrades I can go any where my son goes in his Rubicon
Fun..READ
This jeep has good gas comsuption. Performance 0-60 is really good for its weight/power ratio. The factory says 8.7s to 60. I beleive it. But with 35000 miles and no tune up, it will decrease dramatically. I timed it to 60 w/ 35000 miles: about 10.5s. Oh...it goes 115 no problem. After 60mph, the acceleration is so- so. Their is plenty of cargo space in the trunk. read the rest....
patriot cherokee
I have really enjoyed using my jeep for day to day driving as well as takeing trips.
jeep's rule
everyone should own one
Jeep Review
The basic solid SUV
2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4WD 4DR- Dk Blu
great car, a little better on gas on the highway, a/c kills acceleration unless gas tank is over 1/2 full, fun to drive, great acceleration w/o a/c on, body moldings on rear bumber aren't the best quality and def. get new floor mats
4x4 Cherokee
Overall a great vehicle. 3rd Jeep I've owned. Great Power, good handling, great style.
