Used 2000 Jaguar XJ-Series Consumer Reviews
2000 XJ8
I purchased my Jag used with 38000 miles. The car has stunning lines and great styling. It's amazingly small inside for a big car and sits very low to the ground - tall or heavy people may not like the size. I have had a couple of maintenance items in the six months I've owned that ended up costing quite a bit - I chalk these items to the cost of buying a used car. The car also has a tendency to rattle - especially from the dash area. The Pirelli tires also seem to be susceptible to flat spotting rather quickly. All in all, I am very pleased with the car - it's got great style, stellar ride and performance, and as a used car, great value.
buyer beware!
My vehicle was bought from a 3rd party while under factory warranty. The local dealer sold me an extended warranty before the new car warranty expired. The "nickasil' engine has been discontinued! Mine is a disaster! The car with 48k miles on it, has been blowing out white smoke for periodically since the miles were in the 20's. The engine is worn out and needs to be replaced. Extended warranties won't cover "wear". Jaguar won't help! All services were done at the dealer! Jag buyers and owners BEWARE!!! This is very costly and discouraging especially with such low mileage!
Buying an old XJ8L
Buying an old 1999 Jaguar XJ8L can be very dangerous, however this one is superb. The leather on the driver's seat edge is a bit worn, needs re-dyeing, but that said, the car is gorgeous both outside and inside for such an older one. It drives dead silent at any speed like a Jaguar should. I was impressed by the great gas mileage for a car this large, 24 mpg. Lots of room in the rear as it is a long wheelbase "L" version, and I highly recommend buying this model over the standard sedan. It is fun to drive, very comfortable, and has that timeless Jaguar styling. Highly recommended for the money, you simply can't beat it. Buy one for around $11,500 in great condition, you'll love it.
MY 1999 JAGUAR VANDEN PLAS
My experience with the 99 Jag has been excellent. No major problems, few minor ones. Service always good. It has been what I think a classic auto should be in all respects.
1999 XJ8L Solid Car
Car was purchased in 2003 just turned four years old with 28,000 miles, interior and exterior were in perfect shape and remain so today even after being driven all through the winters in Buffalo NY, the last six years. Only problem with the car in all that time was a timing chain tensioner went bad and was expensive to repair. All told it has been the best car I have ever owned and with only 81,000 miles it still has a long way to go.
