So fun to drive!!

I downsized from a 2004 Suburban to my 2006 Pilot. I have previously owned a Civic and an Accord, and have longed for the day that I could get out of the "bus" and get back into a Honda. With a large family, I thought I would be waiting several more years to be able to achieve this, but the Pilot fits perfectly!! Admittedly, I did give up cargo room, but the only time we ever need it is on vacation, and I just couldn't see driving the "bus" around the other 51 weeks out of the year. I was initially scared of the mixed reviews on the mpg, but I got 14 mpg in the city in the Suburban and at this point, any improvement is welcome. I'm just thrilled with my new Honda Pilot. Don't miss it!!

Beware Front Seat Back Cover

We bought the Pilot new in '06 and started to have problems with the rear speaker--got it replaced but took 2 visits. The the tire sensor kept giving a code so the truck had to be taken in several times before they figured out the problem. The vehicle gives very good gas mileage on the average of 22 miles of combined city/highway driving. The ride is smooth and road noise doesn't seem to be a problem. Our main problem has been the front seat back cover which has fallen off 5-6 times in the past 1 1/2 years which entails multiple trips to the dealer for replacement. They don't understand the problem and neither do I. Honda America was of no help so this Honda may be the last one.

Design Flaws

We know 6 people with 06 or late Pilots- all have been into dealer because mice crawled into to HVAC. Why? It's not covered enough in undercarriage. Design flaw. $250 each visit. Side trim on front leather seat on ours (and 3 others wecknow of) has worn through. Why? Cheap material. Design flaw. We get snow. Don't buy a Pilot with 4WD and expect anything but nasty control issues on slippery roads and steep roads: ABS locks up, auto 4WD has no bite (even with new mud/snow tires). Design flaws. If you need room, good traction and no mice or trim issues, buy something else.

Good, but not great

I've owned this car for 15 months now. This is a very good, safe and reliable SUV. It's very solid with no rattles. However, there is more road noise that expected. The gas mileage ratings of 17/22 are a dream. Reality is more like 14/20. I've taken this vehicle on several 300 to 800 mile trips. I've soft pedalled the gas and kept the speed between 70 & 75. The best I've seen is 20 MPG. I would certainly recommend the Pilot, as long as you know ahead of time the mileage is overstated.

Our Pilot

We bought our Pilot in December 2005. It has been a great car, however, the air conditioning went out when we had 2,000 miles on the car. There is also a terrible rattle in the passenger side door. But if I could buy another car again, it would be the Pilot.
