First SUV, recommended
My husband & I were looking for an SUV that wasn't to expensive because I just paid off my Honda Civic, & needed something bigger. We found this CR-V @ Salsbury Dodge Used Cars, (my husband works for them), & we decided to go look @ it on the lot & feel in love with it, so we traded in the civic & bought the CR-V. I've had a few problems with it -radiator & tires. But where I work, @ a building supply store, there are nails or screws that I get in the tires. I wish I could find some tires that don't go flat - lol!!
1999 Honda CRV LX
This car just flat stopped working around 36000 miles. The engine would die while driving or in idle. The dealer could not determine why. The steering wheel was at an odd angle that fatigued the wrists and hands. The door locks and rear door functionality were poor. The electric windows wore out and had issues (screeching/squeaking) within 30k miles. Tires have poor traction. I would not recommend this one.

So Cute!
I gaze out of the window at it all the time, it is such a cute car. It has a lot of get up and go and the A/C is so much better then my Escape was. The gas mileage is better than my 07 Escape Hybrid. I haven't gone on long trips or up any mountains, but for getting from here to there, it is absolutely perfect and the 99 styling isn't outdated and still looks like a fairly new car. Just discovered the picnic table. So cool. I live in the Hippie community of Ocean Beach, Ca, and I think this care has finally found it's permanent home with me.
Great Mini SUV
I love this mini SUV and am very happy with the cars interior, exterior, reliability, value. It's excellent to take camping or for skiing trips.
I Love My CRV!
I bought my CRV brand new in 1999. It has great gas mileage, low maintenance costs and has been extremely reliable. I haven't even run out of gas! The only things I have done to it are regular maintenance items, oil, tires, belts etc. Just had to put part of new muffler on this week. I live in a snowy city and the salt finally ate through. And I didn't have to replace the battery until last year. I would love to get another newer model but they are too expensive for me now. I will definitely get another Honda. It'll be my third! I highly recommend them.
1999 Honda CRV
I've driven this car for 3 years with no maintenance other than oil changes and it has been extremely reliable. I would buy another one.
It Goes Forever With No Problems
We bought our '99 CRV new in January of 1999. We now have 102,000 miles without so much as a flat tire. Incredibly reliable vehicle, and it handles well. We purchased the 5-speed manual transmission version, and it is much peppier than the automatic transmission version. I highly recommend the 5-speed version. This vehicle gives you great visibility of the road, and handles like a car with the up-high feel of an SUV. Gas mileage has been real good and the Real- Time 4 WD works real well in the snow and ice.
Highly recommended
I leased mine, intending to give it up next week, but I have not found anything better for the value on the market, so I'm buying it! New CRV is so ugly I can't stand it, but I love my '99. Have never had a problem, and only do regular oil changes. Easy to maneuver, impressive amount of interior room--even more than bigger SUVs. I don't do serious off-roading, but I've taken it places I wouldn't want to drive a car with zero issues. Excellent for camping, and the picnic table...c'mon! What could be cooler?
Love my CRV
I love this car this is my second Honda My first is an 91 Accord EX I brought it new swore I would never drive anything els it has 130,000 miles still going I look forward to many years in my CRV even used
The best car I've ever owned.
My '99 CRV is the best car I've ever owned. It is by far the most reliable (84,000 miles and nothing has broken yet--I've never been back to the dealer). The gas mileage is a consistent 23/24 and it even handles well in snow. I'll probably buy another one soon.
Nimble SUV
Well-built vehicle. I have put 58,000 miles with no problems. Regular maintenance is all it needs. I have the Manual transmission which works flawlessly.
Versatility
In the 4 yrs that we have in this SUV, we have loved every minute of it. Starting with the interior, we are especially fond of the "gap" between front driver and passenger. When our young son requires attention, the passenger can pass from front to back seat with ease. The split fold-down seats have also been a great advantage to us. Lastly, the table has also served us well. We have used it countless times. The exterior is also sleek. And you do sit up just high enough to see over most other cars on the road. Overall, I have loved driving this SUV.
Highly Recommended
I decided to downsize from a Grand Cherokee and I have not regretted it one bit. Most of my driving is in town, and this vehicle is just right: comfortable, turns on a dime, excellent mileage, and ample cargo space. It's my first Honda, bought used, and I plan to keep it a long time. Drove roundtrip from SC to TX and it was a joy to drive. My LX had some EX upgrades (alloy wheels, CD player) but standard equipment is great for this price range.
CR-V Review
I've had my CR-V since August of 1999, and I've never had a problem. It's fun to drive, Good gas milage, and it's rated high. It's big enough to fit a bike or 2 in, but small enough to fit it in tight spaces. It has 56,000 miles and interior still looks like new!
I have a CRV and absolutelyLOVE IT!!!!!
I've had my CRV for 4 1/2 years and absolutely love it. I have had NO problems at all with it. It's spacy, comfortable, fun, it's all I needed. I feel very safe when driving on the snow. It's just the best! When I'm ready to buy another car, I'll get another CRV for sure... I'm hooked!!!
The Little SUV that can
Having stepped out of a 92 CaravanES- awd to my CRV has been quite an eye opener. It's not as big,as heavy,as clumsy,or as thirsty as my dodge was.It handles quite gracefully in dry,wet and snow.I feel very safe and planted while driving. My gas mileage, one of the reasons I bought it has gone from 14 city(Dodge) on a good tank to 20mpg like clockwork in the CRV.The highway mileage is about a draw at 23-25.I can't stuff 7 people in it but 5 will fit in a pinch and I'll actually have room in the back for luggage or groceries. With a full platoon in the Dodge there is no room left for anything else.(I guess that's why they had a grand) Quiet, reliable, easy in and out,and cute to boot! A keeper!
A jack of all trades...
I moved to the mountainous region of Tenn. from Florida and had to reluctantly trade in my BMW 328 for a vehicle that was more suitable. I loved my BMW... don't get me wrong, but I have no regrets. My CR-V was used with 72000 miles and have now 104000 miles. I have had no problems. Maintenence is too easy! This vehicle does what a vehicle is supposed to do and more. It performs and handles like a car, yet can haul a washing machine. It can go off paved roads, as well as take my business associates to lunch and I always get comments on it. This car is a status symbol: means you are can do it all.
Great Little SUV
I purchased my CRV used and with an extended warranty. Last week was the first time I have used the warranty. Its really a great car for my use. Its more comfortable now that I had a passenger arm rest installed. Older passengers always complain that the rear seat is not comfortable.
My kind of car
This car is very fuel efficient, comfortable and in my opinion has some spunk. I can get my car to go pretty quickly. I'd buy another in a heart beat.
LOVE MY CR-V!
I absolutely love my CR-V. I've had it for 7 years and 140,000 miles with no break-downs... just regular things like new tires, battery, etc. It has been a very convenient car for having two small children. Plus, it's sporty. It's traveled all over the USA with no problems ever. I'm getting ready to trade it in on a new CR-V.
Well Worth It
I now have 95k miles with regular service only. I have grown to love the window control location. Great combination of room, looks, performance and fuel economy. Very good in snow. The table is cool, but I have yet to find a time to use it. Follow the regular scheduled service and you will have very little to complain about.
Excellent vehicle
Owned this vehicle for a little over a year and put 15,000 miles on it with no complaints at all. To date this has been the best vehicle I've ever owned. I plan to follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual and keep this CR-V for a long time.
Northern Michigan CRV
This car is very capable. The on- demand all wheel drive is a big help here in Northern Michigan where winters can be very harsh. I wish it had more power to challenge hills though. It sounds like a buzz bomb when it's climbing hills. I heard the newer models do have a more powerful engine. The automatic transmission was a little herky-jerky...some hard shifts here and there. You wouldn't know it by looking at it from the outside, but the interior is very roomy for this size vehicle. There's plenty of legroom both front and back. The cargo area is also quite adequate. All in all, this is a pretty fine little SUV.
1997 cr-v
this is my 3rd honda yet and satasfied with the purchase of my lx. critics are'nt to great on the reviews of the cr-v because of lack of power, but i would not trade for the world. i love my honda!
1999 Honda CRV
I bought my 1999 CRV used from a friend a year ago and it hasn't disappointed me yet. It has surprisingly roomy seating and everyone that rides in the backseat mentions this to me. The AWD is great in rainy conditions, I can feel the wheels stablize when I hit a puddle. It handles like a car, gas mileage is fair considering the AWD, but I do wish it had a little more power for the uphill climbs. I'm just under 60,000 miles and no mechanical problems.
Finally an SUV for everyone
This is the fourth Honda I've owned and will be back for more. It was purchased for my wife and she absolutely loves it. The AWD has saved us many times in rain, snow, mud, etc. The cargo area is extremely large for such a small SUV. The fit an finish is much superior to that of the Ford/Mazda SUV. Quality interior and exterior, excellent engine (although a tad underpowered) and powertrain. Can not say enough good things about this vehicle. As long as you do routine maintainence this vehicle will last you a very long time.
Honda CR-V
We put a lot of miles on our Honda. It's got over 130,000 and still running like a dream. It's never failed us, gets pretty reasonable gas milage, and is comfortable to drive. We have used the included table more times than you could imagine, camping, grilling out, tailgating, you name it. It's easy to fold down the seats for extra corgo room. We have used the cargo space a lot when landscaping or working on our home projects. We plan to buy nothing but Honda's from now on!
THE car I was looking for
Just an idea of how reliable this car is. I bought this '99 in '04, having seen it on a website. I checked the background THOROUGHLY through several agencies. Not only was this car still in incredible shape, it had that wonderful record of reliability. It has not disappointed me a year later. Still looks great and runs like a dream. I think this car called to me from that website. Thank goodness.
Nice Little SUV
I've owned this car for a few months now, and have really put it to the test. I have horses - and have never gotton stuck in the mud. Taken it skiing 3 times now, and it never slips - even on 7% grades on solid snow pack. Reliable, practical (good gas mileage) but needs more power. Does okay on mountain passes as long as it's not too heavily loaded.
Small SUV
We purchased this vehicle 6+ years ago because we intended to own it for a long time. It has proven to be an excellent purchase. 4 cyl engine with automatic transmission has always been a little sluggish but has been very reliable and dependable. Only expenses have been front brake pads, tires and regular maintentance. All of the recommendations for improvements for this model (armrest for passenger seat, etc) have already been made including more horse power. Gas mileage has been about 22-28 MPG overall. We will buy another CRV in a couple of years.
Woo-hoo!
Bought the CRV (used) with 83K miles and I love it! Nice, roomy interior, adjustable _everything_, and handles magnificently. I was worried about the change in handling from my '90 Corolla to the CRV, but I think the CRV handles as well as, if not better than, the Corolla. This baby really does drive like a car than an SUV.I'm looking foward to some long distance driving (more than my commute to work) so I can see how it handles on the 'open road.'
Best All Around
This has been the best used car I have ever purchased. I would like a new car but think I will hold on to this one a while longer. No major problems.
The BEST & most FUN car I've ever owned!
I had a Honda Prelude, but this CRV drives better than it did. This CRV is the most fun car that I've ever driven! My husband even told me that he's glad that I finally have a car that I LOVE to drive; now he gets to enjoy the passenger seat. I bought the Honda used. This Honda has been so enjoyable from my first test drive! It handles magnificently, will slide into any parking spot, turns on a dime, it drives more comfortable than any SUV I've ever driven before. Our driveway is very steep & gravel and it goes up it like a dream! I plan on keeping this Honda for many, many years!
Should be called a GLC
The Mazda GLC stold the name for this car. Its the best all around vehicle since sliced bread. Decent mileage, good handling, decent power and never let me down. Plenty of room for 4 and stuff. I plan to buy another when or if this one wears out.
Just bought mine and love it!
Just bought my 99 Honda CRV EX AWD (AT, CD, etc) in March, 02. It had only 24,000 miles on it...and is super super clean. Paid $16.5 at a dealership in Bay Area, CA..not bad. I love it! It's so practical and drives like a car, not a truck. Really just perfect for me.
Very Practical Ride
Great Utility vehicle and super reliable. I can't believe how much stuff will fit in the back with seats down. I practically remodeled an entire house without needing a truck.
Transmission died after only 33,200...
I have been a huge Honda/Acura fan. In fact my family has owned four Honda/Acura's. We loved our 1999 CRV until two weeks ago when the automatic transmission died. The car is out of warranty it is over three years old, but we only have 33,200 miles on it. The dealer said it will cost $4900 to replace the trany. I have called Honda and am waiting to hear if they will offer a goodwill warranty extension. Has anyone else seen this problem?
Mixed thoughts on my CR-V
I have had my 1999 LX CR-V for 8 mths now. No problems yet, great gas mi. for a so called "SUV". It was cheaply made on the inside, seats are horribly hard for my 2-3hr per day commute. If you have dogs the back is poorly thought out, no pop out windows for air. Sound system stinks. Control pannels poorly placed. I am yound and feel like an old timer driving this car it seems too much like a wagon and kick myself for not spending the extra money for the Toyota 4Runner which is so much more plush all around. If you want a cheaper (cost wise)SUV you WILL wind up with everything "CHEAPER!"
2 1/2 Years and Counting!
This was the first new car I ever bought and I could not be more pleased! I got caught in a heavy snowstorm in Tulsa Christmas of 2000 and the way the CR-V handled was better than the 4X4 truck I had been driving. I watched Jeeps, Explorers, etc. slide everywhere but my Honda never missed a beat. Additionally, other than general maintenance, no work has been necessary. If and when my CR-V ever wears out, I will replace it with another. I'm curious to se if they are really planning to produce a hybrid CR- V.
Have had ours for two years now....
My wife purchased her '99 Silver EX 2 years ago, with only 5000 miles on the odometer (20,000 now). We added a luggage rack and after market tinted glass. The vehicle is used primarily to work and back, groceries on the weekend, but when we need it for hauling our 2 young boys and 3 mountain bikes, it works just fine. We use a Thule roof box and a spare tire bike carrier to create extra space and can haul enough luggage with room to spare for a weeklong trip.
Satisfied
I bought my 1999 CRV new and have been very satisfied with it's reliability and functionality. I haul around a dog, groceries, sports equipment and kids with backpacks. I can't think of another car that is better suited for what I need. I owned two Camrys prior to this CRV and I can say for sure that the CRV's interior features are poorer quality than Toyota and here are some examples: stereo was horrible in the CRV but good in the Camry, air conditioning is horrible in the CRV but awesome in the Camry. The CRV doesn't have much "get up and go" if I need to accelerate quickly from a stop. I LOVE the AWD feature and it is fun to drive in the snow.
