Good all around vehicle
I own a 92 Acura Vigor and a 2007 Honda Odyssey along with my 06 Civic. Contrary to the complaints that I have viewed here, our Civic has been a champion. The handling fits between my Vigor and Odyssey. It handles crisp like my Vigor without the stiff ride. It gets 40 mpg with the a/c on at 77 mph. I just replaced the rear brake pads at 74,000. It is only on its second set of tires. Knock on wood, I'll keep it as long as it continues to perform like it has.
So Far, So Good
One of the first HCH cars sold in the Raleigh, NC area. So far, my highway mileage has been between 45-53 mpg; city 35-42 mpg (my commute is 99% freeway). Seating is quite comfortable and the cabin is fairly quiet. Engine noise is most pronounced during hard acceleration and there is some wind noise around the side mirrors. Acceleration is adequate and the CVT (transmission) is wonderfully smooth. Overall, much improved over the 2005 model. Me likey! A lot!
CANT PLEASE EVERYONE!
Excellent car, I find it strange that you have a handful of complainers out of over 800 reviews. I don't even bother looking at those reviews when you have almost a 5 star score and just a few 1-2 stars.

Best car I've ever owned.
Originally bought this as a commute car, never owned a Civic before. I absolutely LOVE this car. Everything about it is perfect. I am not given to hyperbole but I rated it "10" in every category because it really is outstanding. Design, performance, reliability - everything is top notch. If you are considering a hybrid, look at Honda. Drives like a normal car, looks sleek and I can get 50+mpg on the highway if I am easy on the gas pedal. Honda really hit it out of the park on this one.
Honda listened!!!
I just purchased the DX model. I am very pleased with so many things about this car! Thank you, Honda, for putting the same engine in all models. The safety factor is awesome! Fuel economy is near "hybrid" range with 40mpg! The DX model is stripped, but it gave me a chance to get into the car, I can always add my own stereo!
