The GV60 is based on the related Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. As with those models, the SUV labeling is a bit of a stretch — take away the black fender arches and cladding and you've basically got a small hatchback. But you do get standard all-wheel drive and a classier interior than the Ioniq 5 and EV6 offer.
All GV60s have a 77.4-kWh battery pack and dual electric motors. The entry-level Advanced trim produces a respectable 314 horsepower, while the Performance trim dials up 429 horsepower normally, or up to 483 hp while you're using the short-term Boost mode. EPA-estimated range is underwhelming — the Advanced trim checks in at just 248 miles — but a test GV60 did manage to go quite a bit farther in Edmunds' real-world range testing.
The good news is that the GV60 can get back on the road fairly quickly. Connect to a powerful 350-kW DC fast charger and you can replenish the battery from a 10% charge to 80% in as few as 18 minutes. Those chargers are rare, but it's nice to see Genesis thinking ahead. Only a handful of other EVs on the market right now are capable of taking advantage of these max-power DC chargers.
Overall we're impressed with the new GV60 and its mix of performance, comfort and luxury. Check out our Expert Rating for more of our test team's in-depth analysis.
Edmunds Expert Rating

Driven, tested, rated by automotive expert Jonathan Elfalan
Great
8.4
out of 10
We drove the 2023 Genesis GV60 on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Performance
8.5/10
How does the GV60 drive? We tested the GV60 in its Performance trim and found that it lives up to its name. At our test track it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. That's a little off the pace of the Tesla Model Y Performance but quicker than the BMW iX in our testing.
It's puzzling that Genesis doesn't currently offer a performance summer tire for the GV60; many performance-themed EVs come with them. Having gripper tires would help enhance the car's sporty feel. Even so, the GV60 rewards you with balanced handling and accurate steering. Its adaptive suspension is still a bit soft even on its firmest setting, but the GV60 feels playful and moves with confidence wherever it's pointed. On its all-season tires, our test GV60 Performance stopped from 60 mph in 115 feet, which is a solid showing for the class.
The GV60 is also a smooth and pleasing daily driver. It has selectable settings for both the amount of deceleration from regenerative braking and the brake pedal feel for the regular friction brakes. With the strongest regen setting, you can almost eliminate the need to touch the brake pedal.

Comfort
9/10
How comfortable is the GV60? Genesis nailed the comfort experience in the GV60 Performance, especially considering it's one of the smaller electric SUVs on the market. The adaptive suspension, which only comes on the Performance model, delivers an impressively smooth ride. The GV60's front seats are well cushioned and highly adjustable, and the rear seats have a generous amount of recline.
The climate controls are easy to use, and every GV60 comes with front seat heating and ventilation. Rear vents are located on the door side and are well positioned to provide better airflow to passengers than more typical center-mounted vents. Capping off comfort is a cabin that is well insulated from all types of exterior noise. This is about as good as it gets for the class.

Interior
8/10
How’s the interior? The GV60's cabin isn't expansive, but it's by no means cramped. Credit goes mostly to the generous recline of the rear seat and the entirely flat floor, which really helps to expand the sense of spaciousness for rear passengers. We think anyone of average height won't feel pinched in any seat. Getting in and out of the GV60 is pretty easy too. The sloping roofline does create some rear visibility challenges, so the backup and surround-view cameras, which come standard on any GV60, come in handy.
Although we found the GV60's controls intuitive to use, we were a bit less impressed with the operation of Genesis' more ambitious attempts, such as the exterior face recognition camera and fingerprint scanner. The face recognition feature was slow to operate in our testing, and the fingerprint scanner only worked intermittently. Neither biometric was more convenient than a digital smartphone key, and we're still wondering why Genesis insists there be a power/ignition button. Tesla and Volvo have proven that get-in-and-go is the way forward for EVs.

Technology
8.5/10
How’s the tech? Slightly gimmicky biometric features aside, the tech in the GV60 is quite a strong point. Its advanced driver aids operate well across the board with few, if any, false alarms or real nuisances. The integrated navigation system also works well, and the standard Bang & Olufsen premium audio system sounds great.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration is standard, though the GV60's system doesn't offer wireless connectivity and you'll need to use a USB cord. But there are four USB-C ports, plus a wireless charging pad, giving you plenty of options for keeping your devices charged up. The GV60 also comes with a cool feature that allows you to power electronics, tools and other small appliances with the car's battery pack.

Storage
7.5/10
How’s the storage? The GV60's smallish size and sloping roofline don't do its cargo area any favors. Compared to the Model Y, the GV60 offers a relatively modest 24 cubic feet of rear cargo space and a laughably small front trunk ... er cubby. But the rear seats do split in a 60/40 configuration and fold relatively flat, which helps with transporting larger items.
Storage for smaller items in the cabin is decent but not as useful as what you'll find in the Model Y or even the closely related Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. The largest storage spot is a pass-through beneath the center console area that uses netting as walls on either end. It's oddly sized and not very convenient to access.
The reclining seats are a boon if you're installing child safety seats. The lower LATCH anchors are accessible but just barely peek out from seat cushions. The top tethers are easier to access.

Range and Efficiency
7.5/10
How are the range and efficiency? The EPA estimates that the GV60 Performance, which is what we tested, has a range of 235 miles on a full charge. It also says that you can expect to use 37 kWh of electricity for every 100 miles traveled. Neither figure is particularly impressive. But in Edmunds' real-world testing, our test model traveled 274 miles, nearly 40 miles more than its EPA estimate, and needed only 30.9 kWh of energy for every 100 miles. (Remember that the lower the kWh figure here, the better.)
This range should be enough for most EV buyers, and it's not too far off from the Tesla Model Y Performance's Edmunds-tested real-world range and consumption. Just know that a BMW iX or Tesla Model Y Long Range will ultimately provide more maximum range.
As far as charging goes, the GV60 is capable of ultra-quick DC charging speeds. Genesis says you can get from 10% to 80% in as quick as 18 minutes if using a suitable 350-kW charger.

Value
9/10
Is the GV60 a good value? The GV60 feels worth its price considering the performance, comfort and advanced tech you get. Tax credits may no longer be on the table for the GV60, but that wouldn't dissuade us from recommending it. Some of the interior materials and controls feel and look a little downmarket compared to what you'll find in an Audi e-tron or BMW iX, but overall build quality is solid.
Genesis does cover you with an excellent warranty: a five-year/60,000-mile comprehensive and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain and battery warranties. Genesis also provides complimentary maintenance for three years/36,000 miles and two years of free DC fast charging (for the first 30 minutes) on the Electrify America public charging network.

Wildcard
8/10
The GV60 may not appeal to everyone, especially in some of its funkier exterior paint colors, but the response from the passers-by has been mostly positive. Whether you're in love with the design or not, Genesis has come into its own and is pushing the envelope in the right way.
2023 Genesis GV60 trim level differences
The 2023 Genesis GV60 is an all-electric SUV that is available in Advanced and Performance trim levels. Both are propelled by an electric motor at each axle for all-wheel drive and are fed by a 77.4-kWh battery pack. The Advanced trim has a combined output of 314 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque and an EPA-estimated range of 248 miles. The Performance increases output to 429 hp and 516 lb-ft but range drops to 235 miles. Other standard and optional features include: Compare the 2023 Genesis GV60 trim levels in-depth.
Which GV60 trim does Edmunds recommend?
The entry-level Advanced trim gets our recommendation because it has a comprehensive standard features list and is plenty powerful for the majority of drivers. The Performance trim likely handles better without sacrificing ride comfort, but the $9,000 premium doesn't seem worth it, especially with its shorter range.

2023 Genesis GV60 Advanced 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)
I agree with the previous poster, the only downside is not having the wireless Apple and android carplay. Otherwise I’m really happy with the design, acceleration, charging speed and mileage. I believe the car is supposed have a range between 235-248 but my Advanced 2023 GV60 consistently charges up to 275 mile range. I usually never drive it below 50% charge.
I do wish they sold this … in more states as I had to ship mine in from California. It’s really quiet but you can also change the drive sounds setting to your preference. Im also glad I’m driving a unique car as it seems everyone and their mom has a Tesla.
Overall I’m really happy with the purchase. I also appreciate the service from Genesis so far.

2023 Genesis GV60 Performance 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)
It's pricey and truthfully it's a step down in luxury from the GV70 Sport Prestige I had. But the acceleration and torque are unbelievable. Biggest downside is lack of wireless Android auto and apple play. And range isn't the best, but it charges very quickly.
Unfortunately the car isn't eligible for any incentives, and every dealer I'm aware of in CA sells the car above MSRP. If you … can stand to wait, they will probably drop in price eventually. And the GV70 electric may end up qualifying for the IRA tax credit as it will be assembled in Alabama. But it's a phenomenal EV and way better than a Tesla in terms of build qualify and comfort, in my opinion.

2023 Genesis GV60 Performance 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)
After waiting a full year for a Jaguar I-Pace that was never built, I got back my deposit and bought a GV60. This thing is remarkable. Given how so many reviews compared it to its Kia And Hyundai siblings I wasn’t expecting a whole lot more than what they had to offer.
Well in performance trim it has the most creatively designed interior of any car on the market. Genesis has such an … amazing team at this point, and is seemingly given such freedom, that their designs are unmatchable.
Quiet, fast, and smootfh driving, the only missing element is another 50 miles of range. It will be interesting to see if, like MB they will be able to tweak HP and range via OTA.

2023 Genesis GV60 Performance 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)
I bought this as a 1YO used GV60 Performance. The acceleration is crazy-fast, and the ride is smooth, quiet and well controlled. The latest OTA update brought wireless CarPlay to all owners. I’m getting much better range than the EPA rating would suggest. I haven’t tried to do a scientific range test, but that actual range I’m getting in warm weather ~70F is in the high 200’s.
This is … the best car I’ve ever owned and I’m not a young guy. My last car was an Audi A4 with sport suspension and the GV60 is a big step up in luxury and fun. I live in CT and have home charging, so that’s not an issue and I’m loving not having to stop at gas stations. I made a few road trips and there are now public fast chargers on highway rest areas, and a few off-highway that are situated near exits. Each brand of charging station is a bit different, hence a learning curve but once you download the right apps and learn to use them it’s not an issue.
Update - after going through my first winter the car still drives and performs great. As expected, the range was reduced by 10-30% in colder weather, depending how cold. It handles well in snow with great traction. Tire wear has been good, but I only accelerate hard only occasionally and allow the motors to do most of the braking with regen. Have done all updates and recalls as soon as available and haven't experienced any problems. Genesis service has been top notch.

In comes the Genesis GV60, the brand's first bespoke electric vehicle. The GV60 aims to do what the Model Y does, but better — meaning high performance, excellent build quality and a properly… luxurious interior. So, does the Genesis have Tesla beat? Or is the Model Y still king of this segment? Join Edmunds' Lauren McCay in the video above to find out!
