Used 1999 Ford Windstar Minivan Consumer Reviews
1999 Ford Windstar LX Mini-Van.
I Just recently purchased a Ford Windstar LX Mini-Van, and was very impressed with it's performance, space, and overall handling. I did my research, compared vehicles, trucks, suv's and vans. After weeks of searching for the right vehicle I have to say that Ford was "The Right Choice". I also have a Wife & Two Boys, and they could not be any happier with my decision.
1999 Ford Windstar Van
We have had several problems with this vehicle. The paint started to flake off the roof at approximately 65,000K with Ford denying any widespread problems with paint. The electrical system has been problematic causing the dash to flicker and door locks to work erratically. The valves have made noise since we bought it, with Ford unable to find a problem. We have also had front suspension and power steering work. When called about the paint problems, the dealer said I would have to call Detroit...but claimed NOT to have Ford's 800 number! I AM THROUGH WITH FORD PRODUCTS!
Ford Let Us Down.
I love the body of this minivan. It is comfortable and has plenty of room! It is a great car to drive. Now that said mechanically it stinks. Ford knows all about this vehicles problems, O ring failure, transmission failure, O2 sensors failure, door sensor failure, driver side door lock failure and on and on. If we knew then what we know now we would never have bought this car. Fortunately we bought it used and still have not spent up to the new price. We put over $5,000 in repairs into this car over 6 years. I will think twice before I risk another Ford purchase.
Windstar from hell
So far I have replaced: Intake manifold at 50000 miles, transmission at 60000, both front anti-lock brake systems. Non covered by Ford. At least it's comfortable while you wit for tow.
Never Agaiin!
After replacing a Grand Caravan with the Windstar, I have to say I am extremely disappointed with American minivans. In the last year, I have spent over $4000 on the Windstar (granted, some items were maintenance, like brakes). I am staring at a bill for $1300 to fix the heat ('blendor' broken) and plan to send Ford a 'heated' letter. I had to replace the intake manifold gasket at 60,000 miles, a $500 job (Ford paid 1/2), have had several recalls on the transmission and have generally found this van to be unreliable and requiring a LOT of maintenance. Oh yes, the gas mileage is terrible as well. And the windnoise is unbelievable.
