Used 1999 Ford Windstar Minivan Consumer Reviews
No more Fords 4 me
Had to replace intake manifold and tie rod ends at 45K miles, transmission at 62K, power steering rack& intake gaskets at 67K, power steering hose and fuel pump at 70K miles. In addition to the routine tires, brakes, flushes and numerous minor things like liftgate hydraulic, CD stuck in the player, sliding door that won't click closed, brakes and 2 alignments. We just can't afford keep this van any longer. The car has taken more "vacations" than we have! We just finished paying it off.
no star in my wind
At 20,000 miles tranny goes , on christmas day. engine light came on at least a dozen times in the past year . went through 3 sets of tires.ford tells me this normal,my van has 58,000 miles and i'm DONE.
So-so
In the very beginning of owning the Windstar,I was very happy. My only complaints were that the interior was less roomy and not as nice as the Caravan and the transmission seemed to shift "hard". Roughly at 5K the interior lights started intermittently flashing. I brought it in for warrantee work but they were never able to solve the problem. With only 2500 miles left on warrantee the transmission blew. The Windstar was in the dealship for over a week. Would I buy another Windstar? Probably not due to many of the problems I've seen (including 4 recalls)plus the fact the gas mileage is quite poor.
Poor quality and poor company
This car is a good idea but poor execution. Transmission failed at 90k and is a known problem with this van. The check engine light comes on because of clogged EGR circiut . A/C blend louvers break, known problem. The worst thing is that you may have to get these fixed over and over again.
Ford - Stick to Trucks
I have owned 6 Fords now. Never again will I own a non-truck Ford. My Winstar SEL has had major steering and transmission problems. I had a manifold problem too. Also, the interior had several items fall off. Transmission is still horrible. The new 2002 are no better. We tried one. Stay away from these vans. You will be happy you did.
