2006 Ford Taurus

I'm a big guy 6 feet 5 inches tall and I have ample room. After 2 years of ownership only minor problem with passenger side window. I have owned several V-8 Camaros thru the years so I know a little about power. This car responds well on the highway and I enjoy the ride. I get compliments all the time on my Taurus when it's cleaned and detailed it looks as good as any car on the road and I have the pictures to prove it.

Car for my son

Bought a 2006 Ford Taurus for my son. Was an insurance write off from hitting a deer. For a 12 year old car with just under 89,000 miles. We went to our local pull a part and put a front facia, headlights, hood and a brand new windsheild. Took it to Firestone and had 4 new tires put on, did plugs, wires, oil &filter, transmission service and a new coil pack on it. Since these cars are so plentiful we scored the replacement parts cheap and they were from the same color car. All this done for $1,600.00 total money spent and 3 days of fixing it. He travels 120 highway miles a day round trip for work. Since it is the SEL verion it pretty much has power everything comparable to much higher dollar sedans. Insurance is cheap, fuel mileage is good, but it is just a 3.0 liter V6 so its not going to set the world on fire. But it has ample power to merge and pass. Seats up to 6 adults comfortably comes with child safety locks & windows. It's a great car that is neither to small or to big. After seeing how reliable it is im definitely considering selling my wifes Mustang and getting the next generation of Taurus maybe even an SHO model. But if you have a high school/college bound son or daughter i would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a first car.

Great Car only minor issues

These cars are probably one of the better cars made by Ford in terms of reliability. I have had this car for 2 years now after my grandmother who owned it for about 5 years. Overall I think this car is great in terms of being an affordable low maintenance car. Over the 2 years I owned it the only things I've had to get fixed was a couple of belts and that's not bad at all. Yes I have gotten new tires, changed the oil myself, put fuel treatment in monthly, and checked the transmission fluid monthly as well. I am no mechanic at all, but my brother is and if there's one thing I learned from him is that if you take care of things they will last. Now is it one of the best cars ever? No, the ford taurus to me is a car for college kids and people who are on a tight budget. Since I got this car I have yet to have the check engine light come on and it has never broken down on the side of the road, and for that I give this car a lot of credit for it's reliability. There were only two cons I have found with this car and they are both either minor or very much avoidable. Note that the car was given to me with 130,000 miles on it. This past spring I noticed that the car actually got a total of three holes in the floor paneling of the car. For all I know I had driven the entire winter with those holes present. I did have a neighbor help me out and patch the holes and while doing so we found that one hole had caused a lot of rust to build up on the frame. It was a good amount of rust but the strength of the frame is still present. She passed her recent inspection and my mechanic noted that this will probably be the last year before it becomes unsafe which is a shame for a car that is so reliable and has never really had any issues. This is easily avoidable just by simply applying undercoat spray under the car every year before winter, after finding out about the holes I did research and found out that the undersides of these cars tend to rust out if not undercoated enough. The only other thing I got annoyed with on this car was the radio. I have subwoofers and the radio is actually located in the trunk of the car which mean that I had to route the entire wire harness for the radio all through the car. That's a lot of wires to hide just saying. Other than the issue with the rust underneath, I would highly recommend this car to anybody who's trying to find a good reliable budget car.

I purchased a used Taurus SE in Feb. 2007 with 16,000 miles on it. The car currently has 420,000 miles on it and is still going. It has required five starters, a couple alternators, front hubs and preventative maintenance. I'm pleased with that car. 12/21/21 I had made a typo in the original post. I bought the car in 2007. Ut now has around 450,000 miles on it. My son has been using it for a year and a half. He is trained as a mechanic and has had to put some new parts on it during that time. The car is probably not going to last much longer now. It has been a good one, for sure.

TOO GOOD TO DISCONTINUE

Great looking aerodynamic auto. Can't remember another auto I've owned that was as comfortable as this one. Whenever I see another Taurus on the road or parked, it's just a great looking car. Ford may put out others but it won't be one as drivable, good looking and as one other reviewer put it 'takes the curves well'. I've upgraded mine to make it iPod ready and the music sounds great.
