The Other Girlfriend, the Car
I was out looking for a 6 cylinder manual shift which at the time it seemed none was making. I had become frustrated w/4 cylinders losing power going up steep grade climbs. I wanted my next car to have some umph! I went to Toyota, Chevy, Honda and Chrysler.....nothing! I stopped in at Ford on a whim and saw the SVT on the floor. A salesmen came up and asked if want to take a demo for a test drive . I told him he could drive and show me what the car could do. We pull out the lot, went up on the freeway (315)and he pinned my ears back from the ramp to Ohio State's campus and back. As we were pulling back into the lot the salesman asked my impressions, I asked where I signed. 11yrs and going
It's ok
Acceleration is great. Engine seems to be reliable, but who knows. The biggest problem I have had with this car is replacing the radiator. With it inside the front support, I had to contract with a local shop to get do it myself. Also, fuel filter bracket is terrible. After only one Wisconsin Winter, it was rusted to pieces. Suspension is nicely tuned, but my Kia out drives it. Even the 2.5L V6 doesn't hold a candle to my 1.8L 4- popper.

unknown, unappreciated, under-rated...
The engine loves to be revved and sounds wonderful while doing it. The shifter action and handling are the best from any fwd American car yet. Sure, its low 15 second 1/4 mile time is respectable, but this car's strong points are its handling and highway cruising abilities. Not that it's slow in a drag race either; just drag racing wasn't its intent. The Contour SVT was easily the best handling fwd sport sedan ever available in America until the recent Mazda Protégé, but still beats that car in acceleration. The car is not perfect, but it does what it was made for very well.
Better than really good, but not perfect
Title says it all
The worst car I ever owned
Such a lie (quality is job one) More like sick car of the century! I have had a miss for 6 months and have replaced every major component on this car - from the brakes to the fuel pump and the coil (3 times). It has an overheating issue that could be a head gasket and have been stranded at least 3 times. I have the SVT model that is great but do not buy unless you are rich. I had to join a support forum just to keep sane. All else aside - if I could just find the miss it would be good.
