Good engine ,rest is crap
The diesel is very good and thats about it. Poor brakes, dash bad plastic, very bad electrical system, and heater doors are plastic and break easy. The diesel will pull a big 5 th wheel no prob. The transmission needs a lower 1 sr gear for a heavy load. Ride is stiff unloaded. Mileage is 13 towing, 15 in town and 25 open road empty. Only reason I bought this was the Cummins engine to tow with.

Love my Dodge Diesel
Just passed 200K miles recently. HO Diesel still gets 17-19 on average and over 20 hwy. Only repairs were front universals and front diff input seal. I change the oil every 5K. Zero engine or trans problems. Change the trans, diffs, xfer case fluids every 30k. Flush the brakes and cooling at 100K. Truck still drives just like it did when I bought it new. Even the original BFG Rugged Trails went 120K miles. This set looks like they will go about 100K. Extremely reliable and still looks great! By far the best vehicle I have ever owned.

What a Delight
Traded our 1992 Dodge Cummins, which was a crusty, tough & dependable (but loud) rig, on this new to us 2003 Dodge 2500 Cummins. Who'd have believed a dealer's claim that a 7 year old truck "drives like new"? But it really does. It's been the last 6 years on a farm, minor bumps and bruises in the box, but in exceptional shape otherwise. Being able to carry on a normal conversation, without electronic ear protectors is another bonus! In the old '92 Dodge we had to raise our voices to be heard even with the noise muffs. Fuel economy blew me away. I was happy enough with the previous truck's 20 - 22 MPG (US), but this one cruises between 25 and 27 at speeds from 55 to 60 mph.
2003 RAM 2500 SLT 2X4 HEMI QUAD CAB
Bought this used at 109K miles because of needing a truck, yet needed to still drive the kids around. It seats 6, just enough for all of us with more elbow room and leg room than a mini-van. It has all those neat gadgets the SLT package comes with. The HEMI 5.7 moves very easy with a light foot on the pedal. That's needed if you want to keep the mpg high. Compared to the 5.9L Magnum gas engines, the mpg does better with a light foot and the truck moves really well down the road. In city driving, one must lift the foot of the brake pedal and let the engine idle pull you forward at first from a standing stop. Then easy into the gas. If you tap the gas pedal, the HEMI power just kicks in like no tomorrow. The HEMI is a beast even as a 5.7L and wants to prowl and move fast. The 2500 provides great suspension handling and hauls loads with pulling trailers very well. Towed 190 square hay bales on the flat bed trailer, the HEMI makes it seem like nothing is back there. With my previous 5.2L (aka 318 Magnum), it wrestled some, but still got the job done. The bed already was Rino lined by the precious owner. It was done very well.

I'm impressed.
Just sold my '04 Silverado 2500 for a Dodge Cummins 2500, QC, 4x4, SB 6-speed, and there is no comparison in quality, toughness, stability, and workmanship. This Dodge is a much better vehicle than the Chevy and I'm a Chevy man for 20 yrs. I just crossed over. It handles better, feels more solid, steering is more precise, handles rough roads better, feels like it cost much more. This truck is one yr older and has 150k more miles than what I had. It feels and drives like it's this yrs model. Wished I'd driven a Dodge long ago.
A real truck
I traded my Toyota Tundra for the Dodge with a Cummins, because my Tundra couldnt handle my large fifth wheel travel trailer. The Cummins is awsome. It pulls my 12,000 lb. trailer like its not even there. I have to be careful or I will look down and be doing 80 mph without even knowing it. This truck will pull a house, it has terrific brakes, they stop on a dime. Fantastic heavy duty suspension. I can load this truck and it barely squats. A real mans truck. All this and I get 22 to 25 mpg highway and I still get around 15 pulling a trailer. The Cummins starts perfectly cold or hot. Great truck
The King
The New Cummins Turbo Diesel in one word is Incredible! The truck is really solid. No rattles creaks or any problems with the finish. The infinity sound system has crisp clear sound with a plethora of useful features. Everything seals great and the truck is really quiet at all speeds. The ride is smooth with great performance in the cornering. The truck has excessive power through all the gears. The new Cummins Turbo Diesel is really quiet. The turbo spools quickly but remains quiet. Power is almost instantaneous and maintains it all the way through the Rpms. There is nothing better on the market.
Ram 03 2wd quad
I bought this truck new. It has lasted through 3 hobbies so far. A fifth wheel camper, a horse trailer, and now a 24ft cabin cruiser. It is the Laramie, edition with separate climate control for the front passenger, great for me and the wife. The leather has held up, mo cracks. It has pulled my stuff to Canada and back, Iowa and back and Key West and back. I live in NC. Still love this truck. I got the 2wd because, I new I'd be on the highway most of the time. A few times I could have used 4wd, but I enjoy the ride and fuel efficiency. 5.9 cummins standard output with a chip. I get 20 to 22 mpg empty. I can pull the 14 ft gooesneck and get 17mpg. With the 25ft fifth wheel I got 14 mpg.
Laramie HO Diesel 48RE Automatic 4WD
I did extensive comparisons of Dodge, Ford, Chevy and GMC. After years of owning Ford heavies, I thought it would be tough to switch but Dodge has done their homework and kicks butt on the competition. Incredible truck so far. It makes me want to take a long road trip. Quietest diesel. Tons of power and plenty of top end. The automatic (RE48) is smooth and solid. Great turning circle. With less than 3000 miles were already getting 18 mpg combined city (60%) and freeway (40%). Fits and finishes are as good or better than the competition.
Sad in Fla
Getting ready to put the third transmision in the beast. Great truck except for Dodge not being able to build a decent transmission. Love the Cummins engine. Wish the transmission was up to the rest of the truck.
Fun to Drive but some issues.
The 5.7 Hemi has allot of power to both pull my boat and get into traffic. I also like the layout of storage under the back seats. The compartments are good at keeping things in order and out of the way. The gas mileage on this truck will drive the best to curse at the gas pumps. Also, the steering is very sensitive to road bumps and at times scary. The interior dash has cracked in several places and I've noticed that trend in other dodge trucks that my friends own. The truck is fun to drive and has allot of power for towing. I'd consider buying dodge again but with the deisel power plant to improve the gas mileage and hope they upgraded the plastic on the dash!
One tough truck!!
This truck just won't quit! Cummins diesel motor is bulletproof. Runs like new with 82k miles on it. Large cab, although less legroom in back than Ford or Chevy diesel quad cabs. Not a problem to fit the three kids back there though. Mileage is 20mpg hwy and 15mpg city on average. Controls in cab are simple, intuitive, and well-placed. Tows our 12k# travel trailer like it wasn't even there. Noisy at the drive-through, but there's no doubt you're riding around in one great truck! I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Could not be happier
This truck is a true joy to drive. It has an ungodly amout of power from 1000 rpm's all the way through 3250. If I feel sporty I can chirp my BFG 35x12.5x17's when shifting from 2 to 3! The truck still retains nimble handling and a good ride quality. There are no rattles and the sound system is incredible. I can not say one bad thing about the truck. None.
The Best Truck I have Owned Yet!
I drove Chevy trucks and with a new 28 ft 5th wheel I had to get a deisel. I cannot say enough about this truck. I was test driving Ford F-350's for months until I finally test drove this 2003 2500 HO Cummins Turbo Diesel 4x4 SLT. Wow! This truck had 99,661 miles on it and this was the first time I ever drove a truck and just smiled! I love this truck in every way and it has torque for days. I took my 5th wheel to Breakenridge Colorado (10,000+ feet) from Colorado Springs, CO. and never even knew that it was back their with the wife and three kids worth of stuff! Even passed people with my foot barely on the gas! Looking foward to many more trips.
'03 Ram 2500 Cummins
I used to be an exclusive GM owner until my wife and I bought our first travel trailer. Our Chevrolet Avalanche with the optional 4.10 gear ratio handled our trailer horribly. I found out very quickly that I could get a Dodge for about $7,000 less than a similarly equipped GM or Ford Diesel pickup. This has been the best truck I've ever owned.
My Dodge Truck
I use the truck to tow a 30ft 5th wheel and have had no issues except for pollution control pumps and the inablity for service techs to diagnose. It`s a good truck.
Diesel Engine Failure
At 615 miles the engine failed. Service dept. said #6 pushrod broke. Stated that Dodge techs knew where to look for the problem. It sounded like this had happened before.
Tough pickup, bulletproof drivetrain!
My '03 2500 Ram has the Hemi and 4x4. I work in fields all over the country so I needed a tough pickup. I have been from Oregon to Maine with this truck. I lifted my Dodge 6" on 35" tires and it works very well. I get about 9-11 MPG which isn't good but I bought the truck with 30,000 on it and have 89,000 and it has always been there for me. My last Ram had over 300,000 on it with the 5.9. My truck has been everywhere with me and has been so reliable I would trust it another 10 years.
Great Truck, Great Price!
Being a Chevy man my whole life this was a big change for me to buy a new Dodge. But I got an SLT Diesel 4-door 3/4 ton 4X4 for UNDER $30,000! A comparable Chevy was over $35,000. As a plus, I got a better warranty and the ledgendary reliabiliy of the Cummins engine. Granted, I only have 2,000 miles on the truck so far, but am extremely happy with it in every way. Fuel mileage isn't quite what I expected (21 mpg highway, 16 city) but should improve over time.
Wife's new love.
4x4, 4-door Hemi 2500-It's handsome, tall and very rugged. After recently suffering the woes of owning an IFS 4x4 Chevy, I was ready for a solid front axle truck. That doesn't exist in the 1/2-ton class, so bring on the 3/4-ton class. Choosing between the Ford and Dodge was easy (Chevy's HD trucks are all IFS). The Dodge AAM axles are larger, the Dodge standard gas engine (HEMI) is more powerful and efficient, and the Dodge price was better. YES, the truck is fast. It's a 6000lb, 3/4ton truck that does a 17.5sec 1/4 mile, or can haul my 4-horse trailer.
Great truck, Great price!
I've always been a "Chevy man" but when it was time to buy my first new truck, I couldn't look the other way when presented with the facts: -Twice the (powertrain) warranty -More horsepower and torque -Better mileage -Legendary Cummins motor -About $5,000 cheaper etc, etc. Looks great, handles great (for a truck), tows great. Stops on a dime. Couldn't ask for anything more. I'm am extremely satisfied with this vehicle. 21,000 problem free miles so far.
Best Truck Ever! Hemi Power
This is by far the best truck I have ever owned. I was never a big Dodge fan before, but I am now. This has been the most reliable truck I have owned and without a doubt it should last me at least another 100,000 miles or so. The gas mileage I think is pretty exceptional considering this is a 5.7 liter engine in a heavy duty truck. I was never one to go for the smaller gas engines especially since I didnt want to sacrifice power over a few extra miles per gallon. I have received more compliments about this truck than any of the others brands. If I were to buy another truck it will be very hard for me not to consider another Ram.
Love it
Bought an 03 Ram 2500 with 95k miles on it for $5000. Ran badly. Spent $40 on an oil change and $750 on a tune up and it runs like new. Couldn’t be happier

good truck
This is an all around good truck. The 2500 hemi has lots of power but poor gas mileage. The only poor quality is the paint, which scratches very easy.
My 2500 Ram Heavy Duty 2003
The 2003 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty is a breast motor tread truck of the year in 2003 a good looking truck I got the one with color coded bumpers my truck is white slt/ sports sharp past down to me from my big brother I’m the keeper it will always be his truck in my mind Dodge got it right this year for the 2500 it started with this one today this truck fits in with the new ones you see a little bit of this model 2003 in every ram truck made since 2003 . Dodge needs to improve......
The last great flawless diesel pick up in the market. NO EMISSIONS KRAP. The reliable CP3 pump. Not the CP4's in Fords that destroy your injectors. No smoke no rolling coals no DPF filter no DEF cow pee to freeze up and put you into the LIMP mode in the middle of know where.... and then quit before you reach the next town. Smooth quiet idle... unlike the raddling 7.3 smoke bomb. The command a high price on the second hand market and rightly so. The last of the Cummins worth owning. Unfortunately Dodge bowed to the liberal yeppies and drastically modified later models.

Peice of junk
Replaced all u joints, front hub, front drive shaft and the motor, yes the motor and this is my everyday family vehicle, pampered everyday. Terrible on fuel.
4x4 Town car
Just love my '03 2500! Feels like a luxury car, but wrapped up in a Ram. Does great in our Alaska weather conditions. With the anti-spin diff, I almost never throw her 4-wheel drive. Just AWESOME!!
Hard rider
Truck is a diesel, runs well, but has a horrible ride. This is normal for this type of truck. I bought it for hauling my travel trailer and it does a good job there, but otherwise its a beast to park to say the least. Interior is plastic. Seats are not coushioned as wellas they should be. Rear seating is ok for kids, but folds down for extra storage, a plus.Truck has nice lines.
This Monster Is a Blast!
I bought my Dodge 2500 SLT 4x4 Crew Cab and was immediately impressed with the overall appearance compared to previous Dodge models. The ride is stiff as could be expected from a truck this size. Although the power is impressive from the Hemi, the handling is not as good as you might expect. I've noticed that the trucks body is higher (hood) then equivilent Fords and Chevy's I have compared it to. Get ready spend some money at the pump after purchasing this pig! Average fuel consumption is between 13-14 mpg. Overall, I really like it, and I cannot imagine myself in anything else on the market right now.
Luv the Sound
It's been a long time since anyone has stopped me on the street to tell that my ride is exactly what they wanted, but its happened twice in two weeks. makes an old man feel like a kid again.
Dodge Ram
I have the HO Cummings diesel with the 6 speed transmission. I went from a Saturn Coupe to this monster. The transition was easy. The truck handles better than most cars, is very comfortable to ride in and has more pulling power than I will ever need. So far I am very impressed with the Cummings diesel. I had 83 and 84 Chevrolet Suburbans with the 6.7 liter diesel. This truck is everyting I expected it to be and more. I expect to put a lot of miles on this truck. That will be the real test, but so far it looks awful good. So far, I LOVE this truck.
Cost of Horsepower
Had always driven GM vehicles but cost and warranty made Dodge a viable alternative. I have been very pleased and can't imagine going back to a GM product. GM and Ford will have to get in line with warranties and pricing to better compete.
Room for improvement
New and improve with more power.More room and better placed equipments.A better ride quality and handling.
Traded Toyota... Don't regret it...
I traded my Tundra in on this truck.. and I got the big diesel $5K upgrade package with 4speed automatic. Loved my Toyota, but I bought a 10K lb. enclosed trailer and it felt like the trailer was driving the truck. I have no problem towing with this truck and recently did so in a level 3 snow emergency with no problem! My Tundra got 14-18 MPG... this gets 15-22mpg and it is a heck of a lot larger. 6'4" tall person fits comfortably in the back seat. The suspension is for towing... so it can be rough. Tundra could go 40mph over speedbumps and RR tracks.. Do that here and you get airborne, but that is expected. PS - use diesel conditioner in cold temperatures or it won't run. Dealer didn't mention that
heavy duty ram
You dont know what a truck is till you drive this beauty. Acceleration of a car with the feeling of a tank. This truck picks you up and never lets you down. Best truck I ever owned.
'04 2500 SLT 4x4 QC SB Cummins HO 48RE
I am really impressed with the build quality of this Dodge. The fit and finish, both interior & exterior, is several steps above GMC. The Ford fit and finish was pretty good, but the doors and seat material felt cheep and flimsy. I didn't care for the dated dash either. The F-250 SD steering was horribly vague as well. This Dodge truck is so incredible that I had to have one and I wasn't even in the market for a new truck, but made the mistake of driving one (helping a family member - test drove all 3 brands). True, the ride is a bit firm the first few hundred miles, but it improves.
the hemi rocks
test drove all other trucks not one even comes close to the hemi in the power it delivers. if you want a truck buy the Dodge hemi. all others are just tonka toys
LOVE THIS DODGE
LOVE THE MASSIVE LOOK OF THIS TRUCK. THE HEMI SOUNDS VERY GOOD WITH THE STOCK EXHAUST. SO FAR GETTING 11.5 - 12.9 CITY HWY COMBINED. PULLED 31 FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER UP N DOWN SOME HILLS ON BACK ROADS NOT HWY N GOT 9.5 MPG. HANDLES GOOD WITH STRAIGHT AXLE VERSES FRONT INDEPENDANT SUSPENSION.
The Beast
Bought a Quad Cab , Sport package. Hemi, 5 spd. What a great ride. Tons of power, great suspension, wonderful amenities. Love the storage capability. Will haul everything that I need and then some. Dodge strikes again!
my review
The truck has a ton of power and has got to be the best looking truck out there. The only thing the truck needs is a five speed automatic tranny.
It's all good...but mileage
This is a great truck in many important ways. Very good build quality, great looks, and excellent power. The dash setup is fairly simple, but well laid out. The interior storage options and load flat steel floor are very creative and definitely usable. There is a price to pay in mileage, however. With the Hemi you can expect 8.5 mpg in the city and just over 15 mpg during pure cruise control highway. These are real numbers. There is a reason they don't print the mileage on the window stickers of these trucks. Nonetheless, I'd still buy it again...
I'll never sell it
I checked out Ford and Chevy, then drove this truck. Bought it on the spot, didn't even haggle over the price. I love this truck and will never sell it. The power, the styling, the reliability, the value! I get better mileage with this diesel than I got with my Chevy Blazer. I tow a 25' 8000lb travel trailer and don't even know it's there. I can set the cruise at 70mph and climbs hills while towing without slowing. Dodge got it right!
At 36,000 miles...
I have the Cummin's Diesel HO. The truck has been great overall. Towing is fabulous, and so is the gas mileage, even at the higher diesel prices. In the city. I'm getting14MPG, and on the freeway, up to 25MPG, which is a lot better than the gas counterpart! The only problem so far is the power steering went out for a couple of seconds twice. So they are replacing it now, within 500 miles of the warranty expiration!
What more could you ask for
It's the best thing I've ever drove, wish the mileage could be better but that's not what you buy a real truck for. Highway miles are fine but since I bought it we tend to do a little to much city driving, not Dodges fault. And I feel it is the best value on the market!!!
Best Vehcial Yet
7600 miles and nothing wrong. Get the 4.10 rear end if you tow anything above 6K lbs.
First Diesel
I fell in love with this truck the first time I drove it. The HO Diesel has better seat of pants feel in acceleration than the '01 5.9L gas truck I had. I tow an 18 foot car hauler with a tractor on it (approx. 7,000 lbs. total) about 30% of the time. With this truck I hardly know the trailer is behind me. I am very pleased with the mileage. I normally average 19- 20 unloaded on the highway and I get about 15 around town pulling the trailer/tractor. The fit and finish is great. The truck rides better than the '01 1500 I had. I love the extra room with the 4 doors. The only thing I would change about this truck is to have larger rear doors with more room.
Nice Truck
Just picked it up a couple days ago and WOW, I'm impressed. I traded a '99 1500 quad cab 4 x 4 for this. I'm not the least bit sorry. The power of the engine is VERY nice. Blows the 5.2L away. So far no problems to speak of. took 13 weeks to get though so if your looking for a nice truck with a 4.10 rear end. plan on waiting.
Drive my RAM
My vehicle is powered by a Cummins HO turbo diesel. I recently took it for a ride into the mountains west of Denver and was amazed at the ease with which it climbed. The interior is comfortable and suprizingly quiet for a diesel, the handling quick and accurate, and the ride is smooth while still maintaining a truck-like feel. After four months I still jump at the chance to drive it.
