Not a Sports car but fun with room for a big dog.
I have to go down and pay my auto tax today. Ouch. But I have to say that I enjoy driving this car as much or more than any I have bought including sports cars. Oddly, it is a car without much of a rating because of early problems, especially with brakes until they increased the rotor and brake pads and because will it has been around for a long time as far as the car world is considered. The first production sales were in 2007 with only a few minor changes. Also, not real good in the front side crash test. Hit em head on, I guess. I like the power to weight ratio of the V-6 the better suspension of this model combined with AWD. It makes a difference in cornering and curves as I found in my test drives. Definitely, not a sports car but enjoyable to drive with some cargo room. I do not like where they placed the battery, but guess they ran out of room. I do like all the hidden cargo compartments. After a month no rattles and seats are comfortable. Not as good as the wife's space age seats in Nissan Murano, but good. I just like the car for some reason. (Review-Dodge Journey)

Dependable, Affordable
I made it this far without a nav/infotainment system, traction/stability control, or bluetooth. The 4-cylinder engine in this thing has more horsepower than many older V-8s. That said, I think the 2017 Journey is a fantastic buy. I bought a $21,000 "stripper" - which still has, standard: a 173 hp engine (shared with Hyundai and Mitsubishi - buy one of their comparable vehicles and get the same motor), 4-speed OD automatic transmission, traction control, a six-speaker touchscreen audio system, dual-zone air conditioning, front and rear stabilizer bars, automatic headlights, daylight running lights, and a nicely (manually) adjustable driver's seat. They even threw in an outdoor thermometer, and a gadget that lets you monitor your instantaneous and average fuel economy! I traded a 2007 Ford Escape for this, after the transmission grenaded at 146,000 miles. I consider this to be a step up, although still a front-wheel-drive "disposacar". Same ground clearance, same fuel mileage, good looks, with MORE standard features, more horsepower, easier for my wife to get in and out of. a better radio, more room (it's about a foot longer), and a bigger gas tank. Drives just as nice, handles about the same, much quieter, and I don't have to "drive it like I stole it" to get it moving at an intersection or onto the freeway. Controls same quality or better than the Escape. More power ports. Steering has enough feel for the average driver. 4-wheel power disc brakes "stop on a dime and give 9-cents change". Everything you REALLY NEED is included in the base price - this thing has more comfort and convenience items, and a ride and interior that rival a 1990's Cadillac. Good heater, ice-cold air conditioning. Don't option up unless you really need to, as "everybody" says these don't hold their value all that well. At 3800 lbs., it's heavy, and has a long wheelbase - probably why it rides so nice. BTW - if you don't plow your 2017 Journey into anything, it's doubtful you'll ever discover the difference between a 4-star and a 5-star safety rating. The Escape had poorer overall ratings, and in 10 years I never had an occasion to find out. If you're driving a 10 or more year old Escape or other, similar small SUV/CUV, and you are looking for a new vehicle with similar dimensions that doesn't look like every other SUV/CUV on the road, and an improved overall driving experience, you could do far worse than the 2017 Dodge Journey. UPDATE: While I do miss the styling of the 1st gen. Escape, I do have to say that I still like the 2017 Journey. I stand by all I said above, and will add that while the exhaust note makes it sound like you are driving a sewing machine, it has plenty of pickup, as my wife and I aren't closet autocrossers. So far I have had no issues, and have changed the oil regularly, using full synthetic motor oil. Gets 22 MPG in town if you don't drive it like you stole it. On the highway, at 75 MPH with the cruise control and air conditioner on, it gets a solid 26 MPG. Maybe not as good as some other small SUV/CUV's - but you'll make up for it thanks to the low purchase price. I didn't buy the 3rd row seat, and saved a good bit of cash. Lots of cargo space with the fold-flat rear seats folded down - swallowed a storage shed kit with no problems. I plan on bringing home a load of patio blocks tonight... P.S. I LOVE the manual driver's seat in this vehicle - most comfortable I've ever experienced! 1-year update: I still like it. Everything I said above still holds true. The nice thing about the Journey is that you can find these equipped a hundred different ways, at prices from $22,000 to $40,000. Don't believe the hacks on the car magazine websites - the Pentastar V-6 and 8-speed automatic (which I have in my work van) is a ROCKET engine. The Journey is a fine vehicle for the money. The interior hasn't started coming apart, and everything still works. The only problem I've had is that I ran over something on the highway that ruined a tire, and broke a plastic cover under the front bumper cover. I hope the Journey holds up as long as our Escape did. 1.5-year update: Still runs fine, drives great. Windshield washer squirter supply hose came off between hood and hood insulating pad where I couldn't see it, but friendly oil-change tech figured it out and popped it back on quickly. Otherwise NO complaints - quality remains exceptional. 2.5-YEAR UPDATE: 47,000+ miles, and still VERY satisfied with my purchase. Runs and drives great, gas mileage 28 MPG hwy, no breakdowns. Interior still looks great, exterior like new. I've only spent money for car washes, synthetic oil changes and one tire. Towed a U-Haul trailer w/no issues. 5 year update: 80K mi., still runs great, part failing off after road debris impacted under air dam. Paint still looks like new. Does have 1 pending safety recall. Still worth every dime I paid for it. Periodic maintenance will reward you. 5.5 year (June 2022) update: over 85,000 miles now - almost through the 2nd set of tires, brakes may need service soon. Car has performed great, except that sometimes (since new), at moderate speeds (35 - 55 MPH), the car will stumble a bit at a constant speed as the electronically-controlled transmission tries to decide if it wants to lock up the torque converter or not. Interior still in excellent condition, no exterior or paint issues. Final Update: Sold the car with just over 90,000 miles, and moved overseas. Only paid for tires and routine maintenance. A solid performer if you choose the base model as I did. Won't win many beauty contests or drag races, but will deliver solid value if maintained. Paid to have it detailed before selling - looked like brand-new - no paint or interior issues, a testament to the materials it was built with. Today's new cars all feature expensive, high-maintenance drivetrains, whether forced-induction liquid fuel, or electric. Cars like this Journey are already becoming prized by smart drivers who want REAL economy (low maintenance).

Life is a Journey
The dated body style was at first a bit off putting, but I began to grow fond of it because of its utility. Visibility is great, unlike my Nissan rogues 2009-2012, and it is much more fun and rides better than the Town and Country I traded in for the Journey. Features for the money were unbelievable, and capacity is awesome. Uses the same steering wheel controls as the T&C so it was easy to get used to. I like a Sport Ute to go on the back roads in the national forests near where I live, and the Journey has the ground clearance, suspension and enough power to handle that well. It essentially replaced my '99 Jimmy which was becoming a money pit, and also has the utility of the T&C which I traded. Automatic transmission could use a few more forward speeds, but still much better than the NIssan cvt.

Reliable after all
We tried the Journey because of rebates. Expecting a loud jerky experience with a 4 cylinder 4 speed. To our surprise, we found a very smooth, quiet, European feel, quality, and comfortable driving experience. We came from a Toyota Camry to Dodge Caravan to the Journey. We found the experience of a true crossover, car-like ride and drive with the features of a utility vehicle. We are in our sixties, so ease of getting in and out of a vehicle is very important to us. The journey has the perfect seat height for us and is very easy to enter and exit. The Camry has the cheapest, thinnest, and most uncomfortable seats in a very good car. The Caravan was a comfortable entry but the ride was bouncy and hard on old bones. Also, our senior friends just could not get in the back seats. They are too high and too far over, you have to climb in, which, is okay for the kids and grandkids but not seniors. The Journey comes in AWD and the 3.6 v6 engine with 6 speed. One needing more power might look for these options. But I am in the south, with no ice and flat terrain so I find the 2.4 quite adequate. I will admit the 2.4 is a bit underpowered. It will not win any awards in gas-saving either. Looks like in-town driving will yield the same mpg as the 3.6 in the Grand Caravan around 23 mpg. However, again surprised by how smooth the 2.4 is with the 4 speed. The 6 speed in the Caravan was bad to hunt and shift down, very annoying. I need to mention the high-quality pleasant ride is only found in 2017 models, in which, suspension and quietness are upgrades for 2017. We tested a 2016 and there is a significant difference in ride and feel. In 2017, I can hardly hear the engine. Very quiet cabin. I am a part-time transporter for a major rental company and I drive a lot of new vehicles of all brands. The Journey ride is at the top. Try the Journey before you buy a Rogue or RAV4. I got the 7 passenger, the seats fold flat for cargo space, easy entry, European feel, cargo compartments (ice chest) in the floor, premium seats, and a very nice road trip ride. This is a true crossover, car-like features with SUV benefits. Hard to beat value and quality. After 30000 miles, we have had a problem. The engine has developed an idle shake and caused the belt tension pulley to completely fall off. It is in the shop now for three-plus weeks, at least they provided us with a free rental. The dealer had to replace the pulley and re-torque all belt-driven attachments on the engine and the problem was resolved. After 52000, I have to say the Journey still runs well and uses no oil. I have no electrical issues that many other brands are plagued by. Other than the idle tension pulley falling off which means the bolts were over-torqued at the factory the Journey has been faultless. The Journey came new out of alignment and the dealer could not get it to drive straight, I have carried it to my local tire supplier and they have it driving perfectly. Shame on the dealer. I am more positive about my Journey the longer I drive it. I have owned five dodges and I have never got a perfect one but I have never got a bad one either. After 75000 miles the 2.4 Journey runs perfectly and never uses any oil. The only repair has been the belt pulley repair. I have to call this vehicle reliable after all. The ride has deteriorated noticeably but there are no rattles. A good car but if you drive heavy interstate traffic it just doesn't have enough power to quickly accelerate between 45 and 75. We are at 80000 miles and the reliability is excellent. No problems to report at all. The brakes are still good. Other brands have a lot of electrical issues, we have had none. At 83000 miles, I have sold the Journey. Only one repair in five years, I bought the extended warranty and never used it. Two things I never fell in love with. One the engine is just too weak. This 2.4 was reliable, used no oil, but it shook some like old-time 4 cylinders. I just never fell in love with it. Second, the ride deteriorated to harsh and punishing. I was impressed with the ride at the beginning but found the ride jarring after five years of Louisiana roads. I don't regret buying the Journey, it served us well, but I prefer a V6. I replaced the Journey with a 2008 Lexus RX 350 with 180000 miles that still rides smooth and runs perfectly with a 3.5 V6. I can't afford new vehicles averaging 40,000 dollars.

Solid overall SUV Crossover and oh so cozy!
Okay so it looks a little plain, and ugly but, it is seriously the most comfortable car I have EVER owned or rode in aside from a lincoln town car. Both my husband and I have lower back problems and we are able to travel much further distances thanks to comfortable seating in the journey. The kids absolutely love the back seats, they recline and they have cubby spaces under their feet for drinks and snacks. We were able to take my son and his family and our ours all in one vehicle once we lifted the 3rd-row seats on a vacation to the coast, which was really nice. The cargo area is huge with the 3rd-row seats down. My husband and I discovered that we could comfortably sleep on a double air mattress for camping trips in the back of the Journey. We also use it to cart our 2 kayaks on the roof racks. The climate control system is good but it takes awhile to cool off all that interior space on a hot day, and also heat it up on a cold day. It does okay-ish with gas mileage in town, and on the highway, it does quite well. A few things I wasn't impressed with is the Bluetooth system, it is old and slow and it says it failed to connect almost always even though it is actually connecting, it just takes up to 2 or 3 minutes. You just have to ignore it and wait a few minutes or else you'll go in circles with it. I am willing to entertain the possibility it is just my Bluetooth in my car that does this. These, I have heard, have a known issue with the fact they used too small of rotors for the braking system and the weight of the vehicle so don't be surprised if you experience shaking/shuddering while braking, I hear they are great about fixing this if the rotors wear/warp unevenly. I have just started experiencing this issue and am taking it in to have it looked into. UPDATE: Dodge doesn't want to acknowledge this issue is happening and tells me it is just how it drives so I will just replace them on my own. Also, I have had some rather annoying electrical glitches. My rear passenger window went through a stage of getting stuck down and not going up for days, I took it in and it worked fine for them! (It seems if a child holds the level for an extended period of time it resets the computer for the window which will make it stick down....why dodge? So you just hold it for a minute and it will go up). 9/2017 Now my trunk will not unlatch, so I cannot use the cargo area at all until I get it in to be fixed. Other than those two things it has performed well mechanically in the last 8 months we drove it hard and put over 25,000 miles on it on road trips and camping trips. The car has performed consistently and after another summer season it is taking us camping and kayaking just fine. Nothing has broken inside either. It was in for a second repair yesterday 07/2018. We got an error that said failure of ABS system service immediately and a crunching noise. They said the had no opening for 2 weeks which is unacceptable for this kind of problem and warranty work, they then told us we could drive it to the next town so we took it there, on the way, it also said AWD system failure. It was only a broken sensor and we had it back the next day. Thank you Grants Pass Dodge. I like how it performs in snow and ice, I drive a rather snowy route to see my grandchildren and it is very solid on the road no slipping around which makes my trips during the winter much less stressful. If you need a good family car that can take you out into the woods and is great for traveling on all surfaces, I still feel this car is a GOOD VALUE. It is a cheaper solution with a lot of space. Be warned the car lost a ton of value in just the first year so if your buying you are probably best off keeping this for the long haul to get all the value out of it. Note: My best friend also bought the 4 cylinder FWD one and loves hers, she notes only it is a little gutless on hills. She has a hitch and easily tows a small trailer. She has no braking issues or any bluetooth or electrical problems and still has not had to have any repairs a year and a half in. Although, I have has a few issues I would have STILL bought this as it fits our lifestyle.

2017 4cyl
Purchased new: When I first test-drove this car, I became ill as I realized what I paid for my BMW X3. The Journey rides better, is quieter, smoother, easier to get in and out; even the seats are more comfortable. When my wife and I take a trip, the BMW stays home now. I've read complaints about power (did they test drive the car first?) and outdated/unchanged style (I like the style, and don't care if it doesn't change). No regrets here with my Journey. Update: 30k miles, not a single warranty issue. Car still rides like new, even traces of "new car smell" on the interior. [update] 60k miles; only had to change the spark plugs, still runs and drives like new, still no regrets. We got rid of our BMW, now I use the Journey as a commuter, about 95 miles per day, in comfort.

Great rebates and incentives!
UPDATE (2yrs and 30k later): still love the Journey! Have had no mechanical issues and it drives like the day I bought it! Gas mileage has improved, and it has been by far the easiest vehicle I’ve ever had to live with. The storage compartments under the passenger seat and the coolers under the floor in the back have been used A LOT! **original review** I traded in my nearly new 2016 Honda Civic for a Dodge Journey earlier this month. I loved the civic but I needed more space and the pilot was a tad bit out of my desired price range. Next door was a dodge jeep dealer so I stopped by to look at the grand cherokee originally and saw the Journey. I thought it looked good, not like a new modern conventional design but more along the lines of the original looking subs that didn't have a bunch of flash. I bought the crossroad plus v6 AWD, and the sticker said $34,560, but the salesman told me don't even think about what that sticker says. When we sat down to do the paperwork I noticed all they really wanted for the car was $27,600!!! I nearly started dancing to see a price offered from a dealer so much lower than the MSRP. I guess the Journey has been around a while and they don't move as quickly as the rest of the new chrysler dodge jeep products. The only thing that I wish it offered was adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring. Even budget cars have those options nowadays but for the price I can't complain much. The engine has more power than I really need, all the room I could ask for (including two beer coolers that are removable under the second row seats), AWD, a huge infotainment screen that I still have yet to touch because it kind of intimidates me, and a bunch of other little niceties that I didn't really expect (self-dimming rear view mirror, built in booster seats for kids, removable flashlight built into trunk, actual power outlet in the backseat). One concern I have though is reliability, I see a lot of people have issues with their transmission, brakes and random engine components so *knock on wood* I don't experience any of those problems. It rides like a cloud, smooth and quiet. Though the trim piece around the infotainment screen makes a slight creak on the occasional bump but it's nothing obnoxious... YET. Overall I think I am going to be very happy with this car, I like sitting up higher and after the civic it is going to take some getting used to but you certainly can't argue that it's an extremely versatile vehicle. If all goes well reliability wise I think I will keep this suv for a long time.

nice suv
Almost two years ago we purchased a 2017 SE Journey at a very good price. So far we've enjoyed this vehicle, it is roomy, comfortable ride and plenty of space. Although it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the other journey, the price was right for our budget. We are in our mid 70's and was looking for a comfortable suv with an affordable payment. The 2.4 L engine is enough power for us, the transmission works great and we enjoyed the cargo space. We have gone on several out of state and in state trips, the ride was enjoyable, passed 18 wheelers with no problem and the gas mileage wasn't that bad. We really enjoy our journey.

First Dodge Purchase
I originally went to the dealership with the plan to buy a new Jeep. After test driving a few models (Patriot, Latitude, etc), I was not happy with ride, comfort, or interiors. My price point also kept putting me in the 4cyl Jeeps. I have previously owned a Chevy Blazer, and a couple Jeep Cherokee Sports. On a whim I decided to test a new 2017 Journey Crossroad AWD. I was pleasantly surprised. After 9 months of ownership, I am still satisfied with my purchase. Only a few things bother me, and they are pretty minor. It is a basically ugly vehicle, except for maybe the "boss" looking color (black) on the front grill package of my otherwise light gray (silver) vehicle. It is slow to warm up, even in the summer, and the heating and air conditioning take a while to get going too. Another thing I miss is daytime auto-running lights, I have to turn on the headlights if I want headlights during the day. Also this vehicle is manual open on the liftgate (no click to open on the fob). Things I like are the roominess of the front seat area, and plenty of rear space, especially with both rows of seats folded down. Accelerating this V6 is fine for my driving style, and quick acceleration when needed was adequate, like for merging in to heavy traffic. Highway driving I average about 25mpg at 70 mph. On cruise, it gets a little better. In town, suburb driving around 21 mpg. I like the somewhat basic electronics pkg. I don't need navigation, or computer, or a backup camera. I do enjoy the surius radio, and bluetooth, although the latter I rarely use. This is the first AWD vehicle I have owned, my previous vehicles all being 4WD switch on the fly types. I was a little aprehensive about the AWD, but my first winter in the upper Midwest (Iowa) I had no problems getting around in the snow. Dodge has done a good job winning me over, before this purchase I had never considered this brand. Update: June 2019. Still own this vehicle. Still agree with above. The only thing I have discovered with the heating/cooling of the interior is to choose only one area to heat or cool. Trying to do floor and dashboard at the same time seems to tap the system. Heating one choice at a time brings faster cooling or heating to the desired area. I have had no maintenance issues. Still like the roominess and basic package (less things to go wrong). I would recommend purchasing this vehicle. Update 1/25/24: I still own this vehicle. Now has 83K miles on it. Just recently had to replace one of the rear wheels bearings. Other that I've had no issues. I have come to realize there is a bad blind spot caused by the windshield frame where it meets the driver and front passenger side doors. I have not been able to always see a vehicle coming from the left or right, especially at 4-way stops. This is caused possibly from the airbags that may be located in the frame (?). I also stated earlier that I didn't need the back up camera, but the vehicle is large enough I do wish it had one now. Overall, I still like the vehicle, reliable, roomy, low maintenance.

Excellent Value for the Family
Get the V6 if you can. the 4CYL is adequate, but nearly identical Fuel Mileage. Superior technology, all the bells and whistles make this a driving dream. Dodge has some great rebates and incentives, and you can get the top of the line model for a great price.

Journey with Dodge Journey
It's great value for the price. Our Crossroad Plus had all the boxes ticked and has all the technology we wanted in an SUV that can seat 7. The only negative so far is the backup camera. The image is not very clear (quite fuzzy, in fact). Still does the job but we've had much better backup cameras in other vehicles.

Love my journey but!!!
Love my the comfort and space in my journey. Was so excited when we purchased it but we had it for 2 weeks started making noise in front end and has been in shop for 3 weeks. They still can’t figure it out. As of today they are replacing my tranny in my 2017 Dodge Journey that only had 1000 miles on it. Not to sure what to think of it. The dealership has been amazing but not happy with vehilce

Excellent value, smooth ride and handling with the best cargo space in the class. Very good sound system with on the steering wheel controls helps keep your eyes on the road, not the radio. Nothing else on the market matches the features with the price. Recommend for any space hungry family.

2017 Dodge Journey 20,000 mile review
Bought it used with 3000 miles from a Dodge dealership in late 2017. Had my pick of over 10 of these SUVs used as loans and rentals After all the haggling total drive off cost of $15,321.86, which was not bad. It had the stock 4 cyl. engine which will do the job hauling loads or a trailer of less than 1000 pounds. Performance is fair, certainly not a race horse. It will get you from point A to point B. My Journey has minimal electronic stuff as I use Goggle map off of my phone and listen mainly news radio for info and traffic reports. No maintenance issues so far. I get a little wind noise from the roof rack, which I recommend. If you have lead foot the transmission is not the smoothest. Seating comfort is good. Carrying capacity is fair. Visibilty out the Journey is not as good as it should be. Installing 3" convex mirrors in the corners of the stock mirrors helps. Gas mileage on the street is what i consider poor. Taking several 250+ mile trips (especially to Vegas and local national parks), I averaged about 30 MPG (speeds 60 to 65 up the steeper inclines and 75 on the downhill side, which is decent. I strongly recommend using synthetic motor oil over regular motor oil. Mileage increase was about 1 mile per gallon. Bottom line if you are price driven a decent SUV for the price I paid for it compared for what they wanted for the similar sized Honda, Toyota, and other makers.

Step Up for a Journey
Traded in my 2002 Ford Edge Ranger. As much as I loved that old pickup I do have to admit the Journey is a step up. I drove the 4 cycl Journey and it was ok but lacked in responsiveness when I needed the power. However, the 3.6L V6 Crossroads plus is just that a PLUS. I look forward to many, many years and many, many outings with this Dodge.

Never Again
Maybe I got a lemon, but I have had nothing but issues. I have had it for 3 years now and got it off the line. Over those 3 years, I have had transmission issues that started about a month after I got the car, replaced the radiator, hub assembly, had ABS issues. The tires they put on it are absolute junk. I get phantom beeps. Like a message should pop up to tell me something is wrong but it doesn't. Ever. Currently my check engine light will come on, stay on for a day or two. Then go back off again. My airbag light is doing the same thing. Honestly can't wait to get rid of it.
White Pearl
This is actually the second V6 Journey I've purchased. I had a previous G/TG and regretted selling it when I did. Wife wanted something different, new so we looked back at a Journey Crossroads Plus. Super SUV, Wonderful leather interior, very well designed and looks terrific. Great gas mileage, she averages around 25 most of the time. Great riding and driving SUV. Glad to have gone back to one. A wonderful vehicle which gets little real attention from the auto buffs.

Love this Dodge
We were not looking fora car and thus found this one. AWD GT model with 3rd row seats and lots of storage space. It's not the biggest but is is bigger than my Hyundai Santa Fe sport was. It also has the 6 cylinder 6 speed with lots of get up and go. AWD and good breaks has sopped me from being in an accident twice since i bought it. I would recommend this to anyone and am someone who never thought they would have a Mopar car ever again. Evenmy wife likes it.

It's been a great suv!
I'm getting into the mid 70's for millage and running great! No problems with the exception of the Bluetooth phone connection that will not connect automatically. Been out west a few times and it was comfortable, stable on the highway, very good gas mileage and the space inside is great. The engine is smooth and powerful enough to pull a 22' boat nicely. I would buy another one but Dodge let a pretty good vehicle go to the wayside! It would have just needed a few Tweeks to make it a top tier suv.

Worst vehicle owned
Bought a all wheel drive crossroad brand new in January 2017. It has been nothing but problems since! Dash had a clip break in it, transmission leaks yet was told by the dealership it is not leaking and leaks are covered under warranty just not seaps. We have pictures of the transmission leak to prove it does leak as well. Then a wheel sensor has gone out also. All this within 9mo of owning the vehicle, and all I'm told is at least it's covered under warranty! As of now the vehicle sits and isn't driven and still paying a loan for a vehicle i can't drive for the fear something else major is going to break or go wrong! Not a safe vehicle to travel my children around in! Would I recommend this vehicle to anyone? Nope I sure won't!

Bought a 2017 Journey GT with 21890 miles a lease return, 3 days after purchase the display screen on radio was going in and out, was replaced .great ride has all options and looks nice, at 27000 miles the oil pump had to be replaced, and another radio display ,had it in for a jerky shift and was told rear wheel bearing , replaced it.now I have a service AWD system and car jerks or doesn’t want to move when starting out! What’s next?

Great suv for the money
Was, able to buy the journey new in 17 for around 16k and after 3 years have had no problems at all. I actually like the high revving 4 cylinder and find the power adequate. Would like to have a back up camera though as backward visibility is limited.
2017 Dodge Journey GT AWD
Bought from a dealer used still under warranty Vehicle shakes heavily at around 70mph. Took it to a local Dodge dealer, was told to have tires balanced. They never looked at it. Later the rear hatch release broke, replaced under warranty. In the mean time I had tires balanced, rotated, replaced all 4, still shaking. Car has only 29,000+ miles on it. Back to dealer, out of warranty by this time but now for $1,700 they were more than happy to look at it and repair it. Front caliper was froze up and not releasing, bad rear wheel bearing. There was a pretty rapid diagnosis once warranty was up. Service personnel stated that if I had bought from them and was a good customer he could maybe do something for me. Very disappointed with Dodge. Non of those parts should have worn out at 29,000 miles. I have a 2012 Journey SXT that has performed well but I would stay away from the 2017 GT AWD. I think it may be time to look at other manufactures.

Not Again
Bought it new and within 1000 miles the front-end began to make clunking noises over any kind of imperfection, from small bumps to the lip on your driveway. Headlights "blink" occasionally driving at night. Took it to the Dodge dealer, who said they checked it all out and it was fine. Dumb-founded, I took the mechanic for a ride and he said, yes, he noticed the continual clunking in the front-end,but that this is normal for a Journey. Mentioned the headlight issue and his response was that "if that were happening, it would have logged a code" ( as if I am making it up). Now I see why the dealer tried to hard sell me an extended warranty on their NEW CAR. I am kind of stuck with this rig, so I hope it lives for the life of the loan. But my gut tells me that once the 12 month, 12k warranty is up, all hell will break loose.

Rental Review
I have been driving this car as a rental for over a month. The cabin is quiet and the seats are comfortable. This does not make up for the terrible acceleration, poor gas mileage and sluggish transmission that does not shift smoothly between gears. The brake and gas pedals are up pretty high (and I have big feet), so the angle of the right foot is pretty steep which has caused pain in my right ankle. It is very awkward and uncomfortable. The radio stations do not tune well to stations, so I have to plug my phone in. This means I cannot talk on the phone at all. I would not buy this car and I can't wait to turn it in and get my car back.

Started fine, now a deathtrap at 30K miles
Bought the 2017 Journey SXT new 3.6 6 cylinder with 6 speed transmission. I like the 3rd row seats for the grandchildren (though no LATCH for 3rd row seats, so not safe for small children) and it is the right height for me to get in the vehicle. The cargo area (with 3rd row down) is a nice size, fuel economy relatively poor. Handles like a truck (actually my 20 year old chevy truck has a tighter front end). At 15,500 miles the transmission failed (it was the valve body in the transmission). At 23,500 miles it started stalling intermittently and not throwing a code. Without a code and unable to cause it to fail, the dealership told me to continue driving, it will get worse and throw a code. At 29,600 miles, after hundreds of stalls in all driving conditions, it finally threw a code, crankshaft position sensor. Dealer replaced the sensor and it stalled before I made it home. They replaced the connectors on the wiring harness and it stalled again only with a new twist, the traction control light came on and no brakes after I started up and moving again. After taking it back to the dealer, they found that wires in the wiring harness were cut and twisted together. The dealer spliced the wires to fix (rather than replace the wiring harness). Six months after splicing the wires together, the Journey started to stall intermittently again, with no codes being thrown. With no code, the dealer cannot fix. Like before, this went on for several months until a code was thrown, the same code as before "Crankshaft position sensor". Even with the code active, all tests were within range. After opening a STAR case, the Chrysler engineer suggested replacing the A/C Pressure Sensor. Fuel economy immediately improved and the vehicle appeared fixed. The A/C Pressure Sensor is on the same circuit as the crankshaft position sensor, so its failure interferes with the crank shaft sensor data sent to the computer. This is important to note why the Dodge Journey is a DEATHTRAP. Noncritical sensors are on the same circuit as critical sensors, a safety no-no. (this seems to be true of all FCA 3.6 L engines). This fix lasted about 3 months before the fuel economy dropped and the Journey began intermittent stalling again, with no codes thrown. I gave up on the Journey (and Dodge products in general). I cannot have a vehicle that stalls with no solution in sight. I traded it for a Chevy.

40,000 trouble free miles
Bought the car thinking it was a cheap way to have a more reliable car to travel with. Has passed all expectations. Yes there is not a lot of power in the 4 cylinder motor. Yes the gas mileage is right around 25 mpg but it has provided trouble free travels for the last 2 years.

Poor Performance and Gas Mileage
If you're trying to get out of someone's way, you'll have to step on the gas all the way to get it to move. Very sluggish out the gate. I drive approximately 6 miles to work one way. I do highway driving. I stay between 55 and 60 mpg - nice and steady. I have not once his over 19mpg. I have to fill up the tank every two weeks. I drive approximately 500 miles per month. Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep 4cyl vehicles are notorious for poor gas mileage. you would think they could fix that. My friend's F150 Turbo 350 gets 22 - 26mpg. Something's wrong with this picture.

Does not replace a van
The third row seat is marginally usable, difficult for an adult to climb into and sit in. The seat rails for the second row are trip hazards, not friendly at all. Bought a mini-van instead.

I thought it was great ~ I was wrong
I should have listened to my gut! The day I test drove it, it shook but the sales guy told me it was the tires so they put a new set on and I took it! Before I knew it it was shaking again called the dealership and they said it needed to be balanced so they did that and sent me on my way....but then here we go again now I'm angry the dealer said maybe we had a bad batch of tires so they put on another set. That did not work either and at this point I just want out of this car not even a year into owning it. Never did figure out what was wrong with it I cut my losses and got out of my Dodge journey

<3 my DJ
PROS: Throaty V6, sporty exhaust, 3rd row, AWD, roof rack, towing capability, comfy like caravan just lower roof height, but nice and wide for hip and elbow room, Spare tire mounted outside of vehicle underneath where it should be to maximize interior cargo space. CONS: European styling caused front end to have way to much plastic and I do not like the dodge intrepid placement of the battery in the front bumper outside of the engine compartment. No front footwell lights, but has lights in door.

2017 nightmare
I purchased my 2017 Dodge Journey in January 2017. The trunk space is small to none. It doesn't come with bluetooth or a navigation system. Today(02/10/19) I went outside and it will not start. I tried to give it a jump and that wouldn't work either. It's basically brand new so I'm not sure what it could be.

Love it!
To begin with I don't put a lot of miles on my car since I retired. I have the 6 cylinder crossroad with awd. It handles great, and the 4 wheel drive makes cornering good. The seats are not as comfortable as in my wife's car but on the other hand I can feel comfortable longer in the Journey seats than her more expensive Morano. Love the storage spaces, and even though it is not the fastest car I have owned or the most plus...I love. Cons, not the easiest to get into because of its height being awd. Have had a couple of older friends that had trouble with the height, but easy for them to get out. But like I say I have only put about 7000 miles on since I bought it, I also drive my older dodge pickup.

Journey 2017 crossroads flexfuel
My 1st suv for my growing family i wanted to occasionally drive 7 family members and have optional lay flat seats for carrying stuff from home depot without an expensive price tag. Bought it for 16,000$ in 2017 10, 000 miles and I have a flex fuel gas station so save .50 cents on gallon everytime i top up. 80,000 miles so far has never given me any problems in 4 years. Great 1st time suv for someone thats young just starting out. Maybe in 5 years will be able to afford a more luxury suv but for now its good bang for the buck.

137K and still going strong!!
Bought a loaded 2017 AWD GT in January 2018. Had the Chrysler employee pricing (through a grandson) and so got the $35k vehicle for $25k AND the $5,500 lifetime warranty for only $2,700. Have had very little problems with it (only one small leak from the PTO under the basic warranty); recently a replacement of the left rear taillight assembly for $100 under the lifetime warranty. Have changed the oil and filter every 5k with full synthetic; trans fluid changed every 30k; rear diff and pto fluid changed every 60k; changed plugs, belt, hoses, battery, coolant, and brakes/rotors at 100k (90% of the miles are highway). Also changed the gas cap at 50k and 100k because it started giving a code for small evap leak. Vehicle runs great and gets decent mileage, and the AWD system works great in Ohio winter weather (my wife has a job in which she HAS to get to work no matter the road conditions). We hope to get 200,000 or more out of this vehicle. Too bad Chrysler stopped selling the lifetime warranty about 11 months after we bought this vehicle.

I bought my 2017 Dodge Journey about a year ago.
This vehicle has a good quality ride, driving on the freeway is a very comfortable smooth ride. And I'm talking about the 3.3 V6 engine and six speed transmission. Thus, there are some downfalls like poor mileage if you drive it like a gangster getting away from the mob. The FWD Journey 3.3 V6 is very difficult to control when turning on high accelerated turns. But, since it's not a racing Hotrod, normal driving is enjoyable. I really like my Jounney.
