2025 McLaren GTS

McLaren touts the GTS as a new model that is replacing the GT, but just about the newest thing on the GTS is the letter "S." This is a face-lift and a name change for McLaren's grand tourer, not a new model. Not that there's anything wrong with that — the GTS can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 3 seconds flat, tops out at 203 mph, and McLaren says you can fit a golf bag under the rear hatch. Only one, though. Your partner will have to take an Uber.

Grand-touring cars — or GTs — tend to be more relaxed than sports cars, optimized for greater comfort on long drives. Today, the class is perhaps best exemplified by the Bentley Continental GT. And then there's McLaren's GT. Like every other modern McLaren, the GTS is built around a carbon-fiber monocoque. It's propelled by a 626-hp version of the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that powers the 750S, mounted in the same position: behind the occupants. And there are only two of those; unlike most GTs, the GTS does not have a back seat. But the GTS does have a softer suspension than McLaren's supercars, and the person who complains that their McLaren isn't a true GT needs to admit they don't have real problems.

GT cars in the McLaren's stratosphere are few. The Aston Martin DBS, Bentley Continental GT, Maserati GranTurismo and Porsche 911 Turbo are its most direct competition. All have vestigial back seats that are really more like parcel shelves with seat belts. All are also significantly heftier than the GTS, which offers the purest driving experience of the bunch. The GTS makes most sense when cross-shopped against other McLarens, which it significantly undercuts on price.
