Like a best friend
I cant speak enough about my Durango, its like an old worn shoe. Even though we have added a new car to our family, we hope to keep the Durango till it rots away. The fuel consumption is horrible but everything else makes up for it. we have been rear ended twice both times we drove away while the other cars were towed. Front breaks seem to need replacement every two years or so. But I'm not joking when I say this truck has been a best friend, and easily the best car I have ever bought!
Former Mopar Lover
Was a big Mopar lover until the mid 80's until quality dropped dramatically. Then I went to Ford. But I always held some allegiance to Chrysler products and even own a 74 Duster 360 with 40,00 miles that I have had since new. Decided to give Mopar a try again with the 2000 Durango R/T. Wrong move!!! In the shop several times a year, and basically a piece of junk. Has had a head gasket replaced, fan clutch, catalytic converter, ignition wires, etc, all with less than 50,000 miles. Has died on the road on two occasions so far, and had to be towed while my family was on trips. Meanwhile my '93 Ford Explorer went to 70,000 miles without a hitch.

No, you didn't get a bad one
My 4.7 engine blew at 74,000 miles with no oil pressure. Heater core failed at 40,000 miles, cost $800 to replace. If you're thinking of buying a Durango, my advice is dont!
Thirsty car
This car is okay, and that's about it. You don't expect an SUV to get 25 mpg, but this thing is like Dudley Moore at last call - drink, drink, drink. It doesn't "hug" the road well, and it really feels only average in the snow (part of the reason for owning an SUV). It hasn't been a horrible experience, but no way I buy it again.
The Real Durango!
Absolutely the finest perfromance vehicle I have seen since the 70's. This vehicle for its size and weight just moves out. Power, comfort and reliability are excellent. If gas mileage is your issue, then you probably can't afford the vehicle to start with. If you can afford the vehicle, the gas mileage doesn't matter!

Lots of Fun
My wife and I were looking for a good used SUV or a new SUVin a price range that we could afford. We compared the used Durango to several new vehicles and found that for the money, we getting much more vehicle for the price. Over all though, we are very pleased with our new addition and look forward to purchasing a new Durango within the next year or so.
WHAT A GREAT SUV!!!!!
I LOVE MY DODGE!!! I have had my Dodge for about a year. It has the 5.9L/360 engine which causes mileage to not be too good, especially when you are in town and not on the highway. The ride is comfortable and the handling is AWESOME! I have had NO problems with my Dodge. I would buy a new one in a heartbeat!!
dodge sport
it is nice and comfortable awsome performance black grill and alloys
dodge durango battle weary beast
Great SUV, great driving performance, however, rough ride, definite truck feel. compared to the GMC Yukon Denali or Toyota Land Cruiser, this vehicle shapes up as brute force vehicle (better/similar to Yukon Denali) without subtle comforts (Land Cruiser).
This SUV is a BLAST!!!
The Durango is one fun SUV to own. I wasn't into the "grocery getter" SUV's that are all the rage now. I wanted a TRUE utility vehical. This thing is as comfortable chewing up rocks and mud as it is rolling downtown with friends. Loe the fold down rear seats and the spacious interior (I'm 6'10") The upgraded audio is supurb with very little add ons necessary.
The Perfect Size
I wanted a large SUV but my garage door was too small. The Durango was perfect. TONS of room, but not a river barge like a Suburban, Expedition, ETC. Big 5.9liter engine, reliable, nice leather....get the BIG mirrors, they look better and you can see everything when backing up or passing. 40K miles and no problems (except a burt out fog light)
I love my durango!
This is our first suv. It is great! The only problems in 4 years was a battery issue at 9 mos., and just last month we had to replace the front A- arms/ball joints due to wear. This vehicle is great off road. It goes anywhere you point it. the only time I ever got stuck,I high-centered on a sand hill (my fault!). It seats my 4 teens and friends with comfort, handles well, tows anything we have needed it to, is very well made, sound and solid.
Awesome truck, horrible gas mileage
I thought this truck was going to be the ultimate ride on and off road. And I was right! Handling like a sports car as I fly off the road into a field at 60mph and not even blink an eye, or even spill my coffee. Now that's excitement! Eat that Tahoe! If the gas mileage wasn't so horrible, it would be the ultimate SUV.
vehivle summary
first dodge i ever owned and am very pleased. good power, comfortable, nice stereo, overall a pleasure to own. Not good on gas milage, and doesnt tow trailers very well.
Great car, but bad cooling system
My Durango has been a love-hate situation. I love the looks, love the power and the safety feel is great. The gas mileage is not good, but that's the price for a bigger car. I have had terrible luck with the cooling. This car has often gone past 210 degrees. Smells hot! The radiator had to be replaced due to leaks twice. The front cooling housing had to be replaced because a leak formed in the middle of the metal housing due to heat! Cylinder 7 began miss-firing and cause the left cylinder head to be replaced. Heat also cause an anoying squeak due to leaks in engine block seal. I've been so careful with this car and has gotten me nowhere. I do like the 04 Durango!
my dodge durango
My experience with my Dodge Durango has been nothing but positive. The only problem I had was a faulty drivers outside mirror which was replaced by the dealer no charge. Other negatives would be poor gas mileage and at times the ride is truck like but it is all and all a very nice vehicle. Have cruised many miles in the Durango and it gives me trouble free driving.
Mud buster!
I bought this vehicle a while ago and haven't been happier with any other vehicle. I love it! I now have 156,000 miles and haven't done any major maintence on it. I change and rotate tires every 2500 miles. It has a custom 6" lift with 33" toyo m/t tires. It has the 5.9L in it, with the 4.10 gears. The only downside is, I now only average 10mpg in town and about 11.5 on the highway at 70mph. But this vehicle is a blast to drive! And now that gas is more affordable, I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Fun If You Have Alot of Bucks
Lots of fun to drive and lots of power (have the 360 5.9L). BUT, the internal rattle noise could be fuel knock from low grade fuel or a louder knock we have found to be the intake gasket (we have replaced twice). My suspension sounded like popcorn popping (leaf springs and shocks replaced). A popping sound from front end can indicate ball joints (so I have found). The long braking distance can be fixed with a brake adjustment.
Too much gas!
This thing is a sight to behold. Its interior and exterior styling is awesome. The flame red color is the best red color on the road. Nice exhaust sound. This thing needs its own gas station! I get an average fuel economy of 9.9 MPG. It has power, but it is a bit sluggish. It is a little slow and does not get off the line that great, but once you get going look out! An awesome car for the money. It is perfect just being plain ol' factory stock. 17" wheels, beefy tires, nice exhaust. It turns heads.
Durango
Very comfortable. Will turn better than many smaller cars. Mine is 2WD, it has gotten stuck on gravel shoulders. Stock tires squeal and slip on easy starts. Rear only anti- lock brakes are a bad engineering scheme, the truck skids easily.
Love It
Awesome for towing. Fun to drive. Looks great. Lots of power.
Amazing vehicle!
I bought mine in December of 2008 with 107,000 miles on it, and for the money I paid it was a great deal! This thing runs like a champ. I take it everywhere that my friends take there more expensive 4x4 trucks and get through everything with ease. Mine had the 5.9 L V-8 in it so it had plenty of power, with some to spare. I absolutely loved this s.u.v and would have never gotten rid of it if gas hadn't gotten to 4 bucks a gallon.
I'd buy another
I've been a GMC/Chevy person my whole life...This is my first Dodge. I have 25000 miles on it so far..I have had problems with it trying to stall, but took it in and the chip was replaced, then I had a problem with the front wheel berings which were replaced. The transmission could be a little tighter...Those are the only things that have gone wrong...I like the turning radis and the outside appearance...I think for the price it's a really good truck...I didn't expect it to ride smoothly because it's a TRUCK and a 4x4 at that...But I like the pick-up and the handling in traffic...and it fits in my garage..I'm pretty satisfied with it and i'd buy another
Great SUV!
I bought this SUV new in 2000 and other than a couple of warranty repairs and problems with the battery (also replaced under warranty) - I have had no problems with it and have thoroughly enjoyed driving my urban assault vehicle around Los Angeles.
Wouldn't have anything else
63,000 miles and the only thing that has been disappointing has been the fuel mileage. We tow a 6500lb fishing boat and pass everyone else towing a boat and most other motorist on the highway. The 4.7 engine sounds awesome and has more than enough power. The interior is great.Leather seats are soft.Kids love the rear ac and third row seat. The stereo is unmatched for being factory. We did replace the shocks with Rancho RSX9000's. We also replaced the front disc pads long before neccessay because of all the brake dust. We put Ceramix pads on the front ($79) but no more dust. Its been extremely dependable and has only been to the shop for a defective power lock.
Best mid-SUV
This is my second Durango and I cannot say enough good things about them. Tons of room, good handling, lots of power. Only changes would be the sub- par original tires and the gas milage, I get about 13.5 mpg with my 5.8L V8.
Room for the whole family and then some!
Great vehicle...however with any SUV you will spend lots of time at the gas station. Front Seats are a bit uncomfortable, but the rest are fine. Love the third row seating and all the cargo room that comes with owning a SUV. Would recommend it for you if you are considering a SUV.
Happy with the
I bought my D in Jan of 2000. It has performed as well as I hoped. Maintenance needs have been low. I have changed the oil regularly & replaced the battery. That's it other than the "scheduled" maintenance needs. The anit-lock brake feature I opted for paid for itself at around the one year mark. On the freeway at highway speeds the traffic suddenly came to a halt. I hit the brakes and the D actually stopped before hiting the guy in front of me. I have been very happy with the reliability and performance of my D since day one. It is comfortablt to ride in and my wife hates going back to the car when I take the D for some reason.
Best Vehicle I've Ever Owned
I've been very impressed with this baby. At 31,000 miles/30 months, this thing still feels tight, powerful and very useful and enjoyable. We bought this when our 3rd child was born. It fits our family perfectly. The worst thing about it is too many are being bought out there. Only problems to date have been power windows motor (replaced) and rear air motor (repaired).
Solid value, don't overspend though
Bought this vehicle in August 2003 and it was fully loaded SLT Plus with some aftermarket items like wind deflector, rear taillight grille, and weathertech window airvent shields. Has the big 5.9 liter V8. I like this engine but I would've preferred the more peppy 4.7 liter because the 5.9 takes a little more time to get up and go. I won't be doing too much towing either.
How many gallons per mile???
It is a head turner. Especially in flame red (fire engine red). I cannot go anywhere without someone saying how cool or hot this R/T is. It sounds like a hot rod truck and drives like a sports car. All while picking up the kids, shopping or going camping with the spacious rear cargo area . It is a ride to be proud of. I am upset to say that I get 10 mpg's while driving it normal city/hwy. If I get on it then it's 8 mpg's. Dodge needs to get with the program. At $1.97/gal... It's a monthly investment I'd rather get rid of.
2000 Durango
This auto has been used for business and family. It has always performed. Approximately 60% -75000 miles have been highway- there has never been a mechanical breakdown. The vehicle was always maintained. We bought a new durango last year- it floats like a majic carpet on the highway. I only wish gas mileage was better than 14mpg. If you are looking for value in a family suv, be sure to check out the Durango.
Patriot Blues
Overall I have enjoyed my Durango. Great styling, excellent exceleration, gorgeous Patriot Blue Metallic paint, and some nice creature features, for a truck. However, being one who swore to never buy an SUV, next time, I'll stick to my words. Noise under the hood, sounds like bad bearings in the air conditioning unit. Popping in the suspension. Never make an emergency stop in this vehicle. One power door lock replaced. Power windows, sometimes. One freeze plug replaced at 64k miles.
2000 Durango
Love this SUV, great performance, good handling, modest comfort level, alot for the money. I be in line for a 2004 when my lease is up.
My 2000 Durango
I loved my '00 Durango until I hit the 50,000 mile mark. Major front end problems started to arise and they are still coming. The driver's seat could use more padding in the lower lumbar area. The padding broke down in my seat after 35k. The engine is solid! This truck can tow a house down. I have the 5.9 liter. The power is unbelievable! 3rd row seat is very handy.
Love this SUV
I bought this car for its space. I have 3 kids so it works great. gas mileage isn't to great but it does what I need it to do. Although for buying with 120,000 miles, I'd say it was perfect. I would definitely buy again, preferably newer next time.
Trucklike but has good amount of POWER!
This vehicle is my second vehicle so far and I have enjoyed it. Don't expect to save gas though. It has a good amount of power for a 4.7l. Only major problem I had was a bad intake spring that left my truck in the shop for a few days. But other than that, nothing else major has happened.
Get to know your Dodge mechanic...
I bouught my Durango new in 2001 and have been satisfied with the performance; however, the vehicle has been plagued with numerous malfunctions. I've been back to the dealer for the following, # visits to correct problem in (), power window failure (1); speaker malfunction (3 - still not fixed); radiator fan thermocouple (1); front pass. seat rail (1); driver seat rail (1). It seems that the "fit and finish" could use a little work, but the styling and vehicle performance are fine. Look at the service record before you buy...
BALL JOINT FAILED. FRONT DRIVERS SIDE
INTERIOR SQUEEKS DECENT POWER 5.2L NEEDS AIR K&N FILTER IT.
Love it
I just purchased my Durango and I LOVE IT. The interior doesn't squeek, and the wind noise is minute. I would repurchase this vehicle in an instant.
A heck of a truck
I needed very specific things in a vehicle, towing capacity for a horse trailer, room for 3 kids and their stuff, 4 wheel drive, comfortable front seats for long drives, and most importantly, a cool looking vehicle (bye bye boring minvan) The Durango was the only mid-sized truck that met all my criteria. I love, love, love driving this truck. When I hit that accelerator, this baby moves. It handles great, corners well and is just so fun to drive. Also, I bought my Durango used on Ebay and saved over $6,000 so am doubly happy. Hope you buy one and love it too.
Mother's Day present?
I love the sound (motorand speakers), color (chili pepper red pearl coat), handling, and design. But, we bought the vehicle used with 38,000 miles. Within the first week it was on a roll back headed for the dealership (freeze plugs failed). The brakes have always been "touchy" and no one can find a problem. Gas mileage is worse than my husband's 5.7L. Z71 and I've got the 5.2L. But, it's never stranded us anywhere.
Happy w/2000 Durango, its solid
no major problems in 3 years, great drive train and engine, heater/ac fan is loud, good stereo, great paint, dependable
My 'Rango
We have been very happy with our Durango until just recently. With less than 70k miles, we have had numerous problems with the vehicle. We have been in to the shop FOUR times to get the brakes worked on, but still have problems with them. The ball joints are so worn they need to be replaced. (I have recently discovered that this is a common problem with Durangos & Dakotas). We need our inner tie rods replaced (and Dodge is on backorder for tie rods, we're looking to wait at least a couple of weeks). I love the vehicle, it's spacious and comfortable, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to buy a vehicle. Just my opinion, though!
Good Family Car
We bought this car to tow a trailer on family vacations and drive kids around. It has been great for those purposes. The 3rd row seat is great for the kids, not so comfortable for adults. Love the rear air conditioning.
A great SUV
Bought the truck with 15000 miles when she was exactly three years old! I have owned her for three years and eleven months. Truck has been awesome, only issue is the A/C unit is too small for the inside cab. The unit only holds 1.6 pounds of refrigerant. Other then that issue, I would buy again!
Much better than Chevy/Ford
Good experience thus far with this vehicle (80,000+ miles). Minor electrical system issues/door actuators/control-arm bushings replaced. Ongoing issue with catalytic converter, more of a poor dealership service issue than with the vehicle. I have the 4wd version, VERY poor gas milage, especially with aftermarket agressive tires. I highly recommend buying extended warranty, as with any American car, interior accessories are beginning to fail.
