Like any other vehicle, if serviced timely it'll serve it's purpose...I guess. Bought the car used in 2006 because my family was in need of a car at the time. I can say, "that the experience has been fairly decent...until the final note was paid." Hardly nothing went wrong; and then the bottom fell out! I may have replaced the alt., both water and fuel pumps, brake booster, therm, rad./relay fan, and several other parts all within 6-8 mos. But hey, what can I say. It was my only means of transportation and for that I'm blessed! I've said it before, and I'll say again: never buy a "Dodge" again!

AC went out $700 to fix. Steering wheel electronics went out $400 to fix Blown headgasket $700 to fix. I'm selling this van soon.

I have driven this vehicle for 6 years with no problems for over 150,00km. I have it serviced regularly and I dont abuse it or drive it hard. I several times done 8.2 or better litres/100km app 26-27mpg US. It is a 5 passenger 4cylinder auto trans. I can cruise comfortably at 110km/hr. The only time there is any shortage of power is on mountain roads when I shift down she goes. Been a great vehicle so far.

I love my Caravan. It's one of the most versatile cars I've owned. Great for hauling stuff home from Home Depot, taking the dogs to the park, etc. Have had no major problems in 4 years. Pretty much just routine maintenance. I would buy another one.
My 1st 98 was better than the 2nd 98 YES I bought a 2nd one for my dogs and this one east money like a pig.

I have been pumping $300-500 a month in repairs and replacement parts since Christmas Eve 2010,,,it has 98 800 it us going to get paid off in 1 lump hopefully and it is going to another Charity supporter I have HAD IT with Chrysler and wouldnt take another 1 if it was FREE !!

This is the worse vehicle I have ever owned.At 38000 mi.the valve cover gaskets went. At 78000, the front seals went. At 93000 m. the head gaskets, rear seals and water pump went. The tranny went at 97000. My vehicle before this was an 88 Jeep Cherokee that had over heating problems. I would never consider a Chrysler product ever again. We had to buy a Camry while we wait for a tranny so we can sell this lemon.

Me and my family bought a brand new 1998 Caravan with 5 miles on it, and we liked it, for a little while. Head gasket failed at 16,000 miles, had many porblems with A/C, and after replacing every component, me and the dealer got to the point that it just needed an adjusted belt after every winter. after a few more parts replaced, the trans tore apart at 73,000 miles, just slipped into the warrenty. then recently, the car needed 2 rigorus mainance jobs, because the engine would hesesitate, nearly stall, backfire, shake, jiggle, and then the power steering was leaking, and oil is slightly leaking. I regret ever buying this car, and I wished that I just got a Ford Taurus.

Well, I guess I have done better than everybody else. I have 74K on the van and it does its job. But the transmission blew up at 74K (1 month after I paid it off). New transmission 2,600 bucks. Over all it has done a good job hauling the family until this. Never had replaced the breaks yet. I do have the oil leak but I just put some kitty liter under where I park it. It a Dodge I knew quality was poor but at the time it was the cheapest one with the 2 sliding doors. Buy the extended warranty because you will need a new transmission at some point. My mechanic guarantees it!!! Learn from my mistake. Or buy a Honda!

Bought this car with some misgivings because of their overall poor reputation for reliability but ours has been pretty sound. We are at 129K miles and only two real problems so far. Changed the engine main bearing seal for about $400. The dash indications go blank about once a week for a few minutes. You kinda know when it's coming because the ABS light comes on first. Consensus is it's the "Body Control Module" but since it's $900 to replace and hasn't broke permanent we haven't fixed it. Transmission is still okay. Can't beat the comfort/versatility for a family of five. Took a two week vacation last winter to the grand canyon and it plowed through ice, rain and snow like a champ.

I bought this car new. I sold it on Jan. 23 2005, for a fully loaded 2005 Toyota Sequoia. During that time I had the van I put almost 124,000 miles on it, it had never let me down. I had the mid-level SE trim w/ the 3.3 ltr. flex-fuel engine. The van had a nice interior for a Dodge, and it was pretty sturdy until we were about to sell it, the paneling was falling off. The paint was not faded or rusting, it looked like new.

Purchesed this vehicle because the deal was good. It was OK for the first 40k miles. The exhaust did not leave a month after the warranty expired. The main computer was replaced for ~$1,000 at 40k miles. The head gusket got broken at 45k miles causing damage to cylinders. The trade-in value at 45k miles was a couple hundred $$. Ended up donating this junk to charity. will never think Dodge again

I bought this used caravan in 2000 because I started a family of 4. I brought the price down to our price range which was practically a steal. Only 5,000 miles used. A lot of space inside roomy. Rides well. Only drive 5 to 6 miles a day, full tank of gas last me a month. Some mechanical problems, tires would tread a bit faster than usual, AC needed freon in 3 yrs, leaks oil had it check out and fixed new head gasket, oil pan gasket still leaks to this day. So I just add a qt. of oil every a month. Transmission was slipping at 40,000 miles had it serviced. I have 75,000 miles on it to this day. The quality of this van is not to good, things breaks down sooner than you would think.

My wife bought this thing,even though I objected. I wanted her to get an Odyssey. but she told me "I'm paying for it I pick" Good thing she used better judgment when picking a husband. This thing gets broken, fixed, and then breaks again. It's not the mechanic's fault cause he also works on my accord and that one stays fixed. This thing is made to be have a usable life of 4 years and that's it. Junk it or sell it to your worst enemy. Biggest piece of crap you could buy. You wonder how American car makers got the reputation they got.This is a prime example.

Had this car for 5.5 years. No major problem but had to get the algniment fixed twice and complete brakes repalced at 35,000. Transmission is rough but is still going. Have 51,500 miles on van. For price not bad, but wondering how much longer it will go before major problems. Selling car just for that reason.

Purchased used with 38000. Has a 3.0 V6 engine. Purchased an extended warranty with the bank loan, our saving grace. Have repaired/replaced: valve cover gaskets, loose hose over sol pack, rack and pinion steering and sway bar. Now it is leaking oil again and looks like a head gasket at 67000 miles, don't think that we will wait for the tranny to go...

vehicle has 71,000 km. Repairs to date blown head gasket (3.3 L engine). Blown transmission (4 speed OD). Air conditioning pump blown. Emergency brake broken. These repairs cost thousands of dollars, can anybody do anything about these transmissions ??? seems they Just keep pumping out the same junk parts for suckers like me.

Many issues with the enginer. The head gasket required replacement within 3 years. Also, the oil pan and main rear seal need to be replaced after 5 years/85k miles.

I've had my minivan for eleven years and had only major issue I have had is to replace the starter after seven years. I hear a lot about bad transmissions in these vehicles, but I have not had a problem with mine. Possibly because I have had it serviced when I was supposed to. Overall, it's been very reliable.
Never buying a Dodge again!

Puchased the vehicle with 65K mi with excellent maintanence records. At 85K mi while 500 mi from home the crank shaft snapped! Stranded in Rolla Mo. for a week we spent our $5,000 vacation fund on a new engine. Thinking our troubles were over we were surprised when at 92K mi the transmission fell out 70 miles from home. Needles to say we will NEVER purchase a Chrysler product again. We've also repaired the windshield, driver power window twice, alternator twice, emission sensor valve and the front end will not stay in line. The windshield wipers are the noisiest I've ever experienced.

At 65,000 miles, head gasket blew. Trade in value is very minimal. Reliability and resale are two most important items and this lemon fails in both categories. One would have to ask themselves why they would even consider a 2005 model. When I purchased, my expectations were to exceed 100K without a major repair. Looks like I was led astray.

Engine block leaking oil right after the warrenty expire. I change oil every 4000 miles and have a good maintenance record. I sold it to the carmax because I am worry about tranmission problem will show up.

Previously owned a 1989 Grand Caravan. Put three transmissions in it. Thought that by now Chrysler would have figured out how to build a reliable transmission. WRONG! The transmission in my 1998 Caravan went out at 55000. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...well, you know how it goes.

Bought my van from a Dodge dealer used in 2001 with about 40,000 miles on the engine. Overall was a great vehicle, minimum break downs, did have problem keeping brakes, both time replaced still under warranty. Lucky me. Air conditioning also had to be repaired. At 106,000 miles on Christmas eve 2008 we lost our transmission on interstate 95, fully loaded with Christmas tree and gifts, on our way to my sisters in Boston. 70 miles from home, with my 12 year old daughter, and 10 below zero. Was not fun experience. $2600 to replace the transmission with a factory rebuilt engine. We decided to get out while the getting was good before this became a money pit. And purchased a new car.

I bought my 1998 Caravan SE a little over a year ago and have had no problems at all. The first thing I did when I got it was to have the tranny flushed. With Dodge, my mechanic recommends every 20,000 miles. Lots of cargo space with the seats removed. I do wish the gas mileage was better. This is my 3rd van but the first with 4 doors and I love it. It may be almost 8 years old, but it still feels new when you get in. The interior has held up very well. I have thought about going back to a car but don't think I can. SUV's feel too truck like for me. My van gives a very comfortable ride. With less than 50,000 miles on it I think it's a keeper.

We have had a considerable amount of trouble with the serpentine belt and idlyer pulley system. Dodge has released a technical service bulletin about this issue but nothing further. We have replaced the belts and system at least 3 times. We have also had other mechanical problems including having to rebuild the transmission after only 89,000 miles.

Just purchased on 4/24/02 (used) and had 25000 miles on it. Within a month and a half, transmission started acting up. Had trans replaced. Lots of "wind noise", so I don't know if something else is wrong or that is the way it supposed to "sound". I am very glad I got the extended warranty! So I didnt have to pay the astronomical cost of $2600! Honestly, this vehicle could be much better. I believe I'm going to get my Ford Winstar!!!

I've owned used cars for 40 years....no car has been anywhere near the nightmare of Dodge Caravans. Bought a new one in '93...disaster...liked the dealer and heard quality had improved on Caravans, so I bet on Dodge one more time. WHAT AN IDIOT! 3 water pumps, headgaskets blew, air conditioner leaks, starter, alternator belts, struts and stabilizers replaced at 50,000 miles....was undriveable, flimsy speakers that sound like blackboard scratching and dealer service manager says....no warranty...they still "work". I should have spent the extra $ on a Honda or Toyota.....will next time.

I was one of the people who got burned by the bad transmissions on the mini vans a few years back. Hearing that the problem was fixed I went back to Dodge and after 4 years (just after warranty lapsed) I now need a valve job. Fool me once "Shame on you". Fool me twice "Shame on me". Fool me three times .... NOT A CHANCE!

Purchased from dealer used and they replaced the computer before we bought it. Should have stopped there. A complete lemon. 50k tortioner for serpentine broke (not covered under extened warranty). after throwing and wearing out many serpentine belts, 70k transmission froze up 6 mo before warranty expired. Cost us $100 for deductible on bumper2bumper warranty, and now just replaced rear seal at over $500. My 1967 Beetle has less problems than this one.

I put 8000 miles on car and had several problems. I reccomend this car for any one who has children. the problems I have encountered have been minimum. Occasionally, I have put the car in park and taken the key out of the ignition but the car wouldn't shut itself off. Should I take it to the dearler

Steering column has gone out. Air conditioner is bad after 90,000 miles. Had it fixed and it happened again at around 170,000 miles. Need new transmission at 194,000 miles. Seat belts in front do not work. If you suddenly stop or yank on them quickly they let you just go. I pray we never get into an accident. Very little went wrong in the beginning, just minor issues. But at this high mileage I am thankful it still runs!

After buying my Caravan in 03 I did have to rebuild the starter solenoid, but other than that I've had regular maintenance done on it, which of course is expected. New tires, brakes, radiator and transmission flushes filters etc. The only unexpected problem was with the serpentine belt, but I think the mechanic may have been the problem when I had to get a second one 14 mos. later. At that time I had to replace the tensioner which may have been the cause of the second serpentine. I've been very happy with this car. No car is going to be problem free if you don't do regular maintenance. And I'm still driving it and going to pass it on to my daughter.

I like this vehicle. Problems: Needed a new transmission at 60,000 miles, and the air-bag and check engine lights came on at 70,000; the horns don't work; A/C leaks a little. Good Things: Fuel economy is good at 20 MPG; the 3.0 l V-6 has a lot of pep; we have 2 small children and the wife LOVES this vehicle (need I say more)

Thought I would offer my experience...For the first 2 years we had no trouble, just regular maintenance. When we hit 45K the trouble started. We had a leak in the radiator core which cause the floor to rot, found out from the dealer it was a common problem - would have been nice to know. We also had problems with gaskets, which caused a major oil leak. Transmission went at 70K, Air conditioning at 79K. Brakes have always been loose. Had a problem with tires as well – once they were replaced, they have been OK

I bought the cheapest model I could get (4 cylinder); turned out not to be so inexpensive. Have loved the utility, design, looks, comfort, handling, sharp turning of the vehicle. It has been the worst car I have had for reliability; on my third transmission, second ac system has now died, need a third water pump, etc. The fuel economy is also suprisingly poor for a 4 cylinder engine (average about 19 mpg).

The best vehicle I have ever owned. The 4 cylinder engine has been flawless, mileage could be better, 22 city 28 on long hwy trips, transmission lasted until 150K, doesn't burn oil at 212K, still has original rear brakes fronts last about 25K with cheap pads, 40K with ceramic pads, second set of tires (Michelin) lasted over 100K, good (Bosch) plugs last 30 to 40K, timing belts last 130K+. I would buy another one.

At around 22K the trouble started. Front brakes went out, front disk rotor?s were pitted (I believe because of poor quality from supplier),at around 39K, BRAKES WENT BAD AGAIN! Same issue bad disk brakes had to replace new rotors and brakes again. We also had problems with valve cover gaskets, which caused a major oil leak. TIGHTING UP bolts on covers DOES NOTHING! As they end up loosing up every 10 to 12 thousand miles or so. Transmission just went out yesterday at 58K miles. As luck would have it, at the start of a vacation trip, THANK?S DODGE!!!!!!!!!! Good bye Dodge, hello Honda or Toyota.

Well, I've owned three of these: '86, '92, and '98 and now I'm done with Chrysler. The AC systems are junk, the electronics are flaky, and they make more wind noise than a pickup truck! The 3.0L is underpowered and isn't safe to drive in heavy traffic. I'm buying a Honda Odessey next.

Trade-in or sell your Caravan before 100K miles. Reason - the transmission will go out and cost you $2K to replace. If you are unfortunate to have the 3.0L engine ... change your timing belt every 60K miles otherwise this "interference engine" is going to self-destruct one day on you after the timing belt breaks! (Seems the pistons keep moving and slam into the valves,walls,whatever they can hit ... when the timing belt breaks) I really like the Caravan, but if there is a next one; it is going to be traded-in or sold before 90K miles. 3.0L engine owners ... it is a ticking time bomb under your hood. Don't believe me ... ask a decent mechanic about the 3.0L interference engine!

Purchased this van because we got a good deal on it. Its turned out to be the worst vehical anyone in the family has ever owned. Handeling and cornering is very poor compared to the Ford Aerostar and Mercury Villager. At 55-60k miles we have replaced the following on our 1998 Caraven Sport Transmission and differential - $2200 2 Axels, both rear brake calipers, differential again, transmission sensor. Car left us stranded in PA with a "loose battery cable"...Funny we tightend all those when trying to get it to start. Not to mention the passenger sliding door is falling apart, interior panel is falling off, held on with one screw, rest is snaps.

I've had this car for 3 years, I bought it used from a friend. I did buy an extended warranty but the only problem I've had (knocking on wood) was that the A/C went out. There was another problem with the cruise control that was related to a recall that was fixed for free. I travel a lot on two lane highways because of where I live and I need a reliable car and she's been there for me every mile.

This is the worst I could have ever owned. I have tried my best to spread the word to my friends about not to buy Dodge caravan or their products. Bought it used, computer went out, Dealer did not know the problem, so he replaced fuel pump, car wont start again, then they replaced computer, total cost about 1500$, then starter, then key console, then brakes, then power windows died, other than those, tiny problems like brake light, wiper not operating keep cropping up.Interior is cheap, absolutely scary to go out on highway due to reliability. Beware of the computer. It acts weird on my van.

I bought my Caravan new and after 12 years it's still going strong. I keep hearing about tranny problems, but have really had no issues with the exception of an occasional hard downshift. Of course, I have had it serviced as recommended. With the exception of replacing the water pump after 11 years, the car has exceeded my expectations. It's quite comfortable. I tried the new stow & go at the dealer and very much prefer my captain chairs. Flex fuel feature in 1997 was ahead of its time.

Bought this car to replace my dying 1990 caravan. Chose the base model & added the 3.1 litre v6, with 2nd sliding door & seven pass seating. Had a problem with a sticking valve around 36,000 miles and after 3 trips the the dealer, and my warantee ran out they finally got it right. Maintain this vehicle with regular 3600-5000 mile service and it will do its job. The carpet is cheap, but, hey not a bad multi passenger vehicle for $18,000+/-.
