First Chevy since 1954

Kansas City, 01/19/2009
2009 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

Decided on the 2009 Malibu after looking at Camry, Accord, and Hyundai Genesis. This is the first Chevrolet we've owned since a 1954 Bel-Aire purchased in 1964. We've owned a Buick, Mercury, BMW, Acura, and several Ford trucks. This car was a replacement for a 2000 Chrysler 300M. My wife was skeptical about the 4 cyl. after driving the 300M for 8 years. She drove the 4 cyl. for a day and was impressed. I had voted for the fuel economy from the beginning. We are very satisfied with the car. We drive a car for 8-10 years primarily for local trips and put about 8k per year on it. However, with the price of gas decreasing---the 6 cyl. was tempting.

Compared to Camry, Accord, Fusion, and Mazda6 before purchase. Loved the features and styling by comparison. Beautiful car, great looking/functional interior, lots of car for the money. City mileage not as good as hoped, not the best visibility out because of high belt line and rear shelf, and transmission a little sluggish at times around town. Otherwise very happy with purchase after 4 months.

Good car. I work at the dealership in which my wife bought it. Good car for someone who works there to buy one says a lot. I'm glad that chevy has upgraded these cars so much. Got the car for Employee pricing which was around $22,000. but it was the LT2 with black granite metallic, rear power package, titanium interior, premium sound and V6. Have to get the V6 it's not as noisy as the I4 and is really quick with 276HP. Good car considering one day it will be hard to fit the family in my Civic Si coupe. My Step dad who has only ever owned lexus says that this car is better than his RX330, he said it is a lot quieter and luxurious. Also thinking about getting one.

Got to say I am almost in shock with how happy I am with this car. The 4 has got more pep than I expected; it's ultra quiet; the attention to detail is fantastic; the layout and interior are two thumbs up and the overall value is tremendous! Vs. the new Accord - I had rented the new Accord and this hands down just handles the road better and the interior is way ahead. Vs. the new Camry - While I like the Camry's exterior design better, I would give both cars equal rating for the interior; however you can't beat the Malibu's overall value. Very happy with my choice; neighbors are a bit shocked I bought a Chevy based on my prior car, but are praising it and pondering one for them.

We're completely satisfied. Traded a 2001 Olds Intrigue, which we loved. Thought we may not like the 4-cyl engine, but it has plenty of pep and will get you off the on-ramp in plenty of time. Compared to my Olds, the interior looks a little low-class, but color combo and styling are great

Owned for a little over a month. Love almost everything about it, except - the seat hugs me, love the heat options in the seats and I haven't been able to all the station preprogram radio options. it seems that my legs are too long for the design of the seat and the height of the steering wheel. Getting in is not as comfy and quick. I have to sit and swing in. I have tried to adjust everything every which way. Also it's a little tight for car seat behind me.

Just plain and simple, I wanted to buy an American car again, and in my opinion, this is one of the best American or Import cars I have seen. Outstanding build quality, in and out. A lot of car for the money, great incentives right now. Anyone considering a mid-size car, or any size for that matter, really needs to take a look at the Malibu. Let's give the guys from Detroit another chance America! They're finally trying to get it right. Hope it transcends to the rest of Chevy's line up in the future.

After driving the new Chevrolet Malibu for three months I feel that it is truly a better car than I expected. It is comfortable, quiet and has good road handling characteristics. The fuel economy is good and the 4 cylinder engine is very smooth and quiet. I found the Malibu by accident when renting it for a trip. I am happy I did before buying another foreign car.

Looked at Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata, and Volkswagen Passat. For the money, this was the best car. More than adequate power for a 4 cyl., extremely quiet at highway speeds, and a very smooth, comfortable ride. Suspension not too hard or soft, just right. Plenty of technology and luxury like comforts in the car (Bluetooth, OnStar, heated seats). First road trip was over 600 miles, averaged about 30-32 mpg, but I tend to drive a little fast. Car was at 80 mph, tachometer wasn't even at 2500. Putting a 6 speed trans in this car was the smartest thing GM ever did. Oh, did I mention, car is just beautiful to look at. This is my first American purchase, and I am extremely impressed.

I got the LTZ V6. I got it for college and life after. So far I love everything about it! It's fun to drive and handles very well in any situation. Even with the V6 i get great MPG.... on the Highway i was getting 31.7!!! and its rated at 26. In town about 19, rated at 16, I believe. You can't go wrong with the malibu. I was comparing the altima, impala, and the malibu. This car feels so solid and responsive compared to the others.

Anyone who believes that GM can't build a quality, fun-to-drive car at a resonable price should try the new Malibu. I've had a lot of cars but nothing this good for the money. I had no intention of getting a Malibu until I test drove it (I was set to buy a Camry.) The Chevy won in ride and performance, and interior styling was way better than the Toyota. And the deal being offered made it thousand less. I know everyone talks about how the Camry delivers more on resale, but you're paying way too much up front. And the Malibu is way more fun to drive. If you're on the fence about buying a mid-size car, do yourself a favor an drive the Malibu.

Even though I just purchased this car a few days ago I am totally amazed. I'm 58 yrs. Old and have had many new cars in my driving years. In the short time I've had it I have never felt about a car like this Malibu. It not only looks like a more expensive car it rides like one too. It's so comfortable and quiet. It has lots of extras as standard equipment. And geez, it's so quiet on the road. I actually call it my limo. Great job Chevrolet ! Oh yes, it gets great gas mileage too. I traded a 2005 corolla for this and on the average my average mileage for the corolla was 31-33 mpg. For the Malibu in similar driving I'm averaging with the 4 cylinder just over 27 mpg.

What's not to like about the car. It has great looks, great interior, and great on gas. This is the first car we have owned in years (Its been all SUV's for 10 years) and we love it. Nice features on the LT2. Love the dash and blue accent lights. The only down side is that after only 2 days, we had all 4 rims stolen of the vehicle! So we had wheel locks and a "tilt" sensor added to the factory alarm.

I have done alot of research before I got this car. When Chevy brought out the new Malibu in 08', I knew I had to have one. I love my car, I got the 2lt with the engine package, so fuel economy is not that great, but it is so fun to drive. I plan on driving it to Arizona all the time from Vegas, it is so comfortable too, GM did a great job with this car. I bought it because it has done so well in the first year.

The Malibu LTZ is unbelievable ride and comfort. It appears to be overlooked by most. I can compare this to previous cars that I've had in the past and this is simply one of the best and perhaps the best car that we have owned. I've owned Honda Accord, Prelude, Cadillac SRX and others. It has luxury, style, power, high fuel efficiency, it handles well, on and on. I would clearly purchase this over most of my other cars and would be hard pressed to select any other car. I highly recommend this car to anyone

I was an import owner for 20+ years before purchasing a Malibu. I was skeptical, even after a lot of research. But after 1500 miles, I'm really amazed. GM has done a great job. The interior is incredibly quiet. The interior styling is wonderful, especially in beige with suede seats. There's wonderful attention to detail everywhere inside. I especially like the ambient lighting. Controls and switches feel great, better than most imports I've driven. Performance is surprisingly good given the fuel economy. The suspension is a bit soft but ride is great. The engine is as refined as any 4 cylinder I've driven. The Malibu feels more like a luxury car than a family sedan.

Have just under 10,000 miles in a short period of time. Tight, comfortable, quiet, sure footed, and user friendly. When you consider the cost of this vehicle, it is a winner. Not a single problem with the car. It is an great midsize family sedan. I was nervous when I moved from my 06 Camry to this car. I'm now glad I did.

Compared vs the Camry, Accord & others. Chevy gave me best lease deal on LT2 with V6. Great looking car & comfortable drive. Loose motor mount problem on delivery. First time locked the windows, the switch blew. Was a week before the dealer could get it fixed. Very dramatic and dangerous torque steer from a stop or on hard acceleration. Have been to 3 dealers, involved GM mgmt office but response I get is that it is "normal" for this car. Drove another & it was not as bad. I love the toys- bluetooth, XM, remote start etc. Onstar O.K.(have had wrong directions). To sum, major safety flaw-if not for that I'd love it. Glad its a lease. Had to do again I'd go for 4 cyl. MPG Hwy 30+ City 17.

I have brought a few American cars that have left me disappointed. After reading the reviews for the Malibu, I decided to give them one more try. Well I am extremely satisfied as well as impressed that it looks like Chevrolet really got it right. This car is loaded with plenty of cool options, is extremely fun and comfortable to drive. The looks are really nice as well. I got the jewel red color and it really sets off the car nicely. I am getting around 28 mpg avg which is great in the current economic times is really great. I highly recommed you at least test drive one of these cars if you are in the market for a mid size sedan.

Recently, I drove my Malibu 2500 miles from Kentucky to South Dakota and back. The overall fuel economy was just under 31 miles per gallon in spite of a couple hundred miles of country road driving at slow speeds, highway driving at 75 miles per hour (at times with the air conditioning on), and with one full tank of 10% ethanol. // Acceleration was both quick and sufficient when required. Handling was crisp and pleasant. When a quick turn or maneuver was required, the Malibu was responsive and gave me a sense of substantial control of the car. // Good dampening of outside sounds and a very good speaker sound quality. (However, the bass on a rear speaker failed in the first few months)

Been driving for several weeks. Got white w/ cocoa and cashmere. Outstanding looking car. The car is a pleasure to drive. Very comfortable interior. Everything is well placed. Fit and Finish is outstanding. GM has done a great job with this vehicle. I traded in a Honda Civic which was also a great car, but you cant compare these two vehicles. I cant match the MPG of the Civic, but everything else exceeds the Honda so far. I drove Altima, Maxima, Accord, CTS, STS, MKZ and TL prior buying. I feel the LTZ (for what you pay) hangs with or exceeds with the aforementioned vehicles. Cruises at 75-80 at 1900rpm w/ very, very little road noise. Just drive one.

My wife and I tested the Altima, Camry, Accord, Mazda 6, Sonata and Ford Fusion before deciding this car was the winner. Each car had its strengths and weaknesses with options and price, but for overall solid feeling ride quality, and value the Malibu beat them all, in our opinion. I had the opportunity to drive a 2008 LS rental for several months for work and thought it was great. Testing the 2009 LTZ with 6 speed transmission seemed like a different and much nicer car altogether! The interior is roomy and the cocoa/cashmere leather with wood accents is very attractive. The interior LED lighting is very soothing at night. Had strangers tell us how beautiful the car is/ask questions.

The problem was that at 15hrs. after taking delivery of the car? It had to take a week off in the shop waiting for a transmission part to come from Detroit before I got it back. Since then though, its been a great car. I average about 28 real-world mpg. The 4 banger is more than adequate to get me down the road. The 6 speed was a really ..REALLY needed addition to the 09’ line-up. And it does work well, though a little meandering at times with gear selection. The car is quiet and comfortable. All in all? I’m happy with the purchase.

The only complaint I have had was that we got a bad tire from the factory (noises like a broken belt) had to get a little ugly with the dealer, but finally got it replaced. Very good buying experience and an excellent vehicle. Like I said in the title, it's the first Chevy that I have even looked at in years. I think the LTZ is a better car than an Accord or Camry for less money, VERY underrated.

This is one auto I am proud to have in my driveway and be seen driving on the road. This is the LTZ model and it has everything the CTS I traded in had on it plus more. I wanted a navigation system but it is not available. I am not disappointed as I love the OnStar nav system. The benefits of this GPS is that while driving I can have the route downloaded to my vehicle. With my other car with a navigation built in I have to stop the car and put in the info. The dials are very classy as is the two tone interior. One of the best deals I have made.

Been having this vehicle for 7 months. Overall, it's a decent drive. Few minor problems after purchased (1)leaking from the front passenger side whenever it rained b/c the hose from the sunroof was loosen, (2)problem with Onstar feature, the built-in computer chip somehow didn't synch up to provide diagnostic report. Importantly, there is a recall on AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT, for the Chevy Malibu and some other 2009 model vehicle. So if you own one of them, make sure you take them to your dealer for inspection. Would I recommend this car? I wouldn't! It's a decent car, has great exterior look. The interior look good too! But, seems like this is all it has.

This vehicle deserves more attention, keeping in mind it has recently won in the family mid-size sedan competition. It's a real feat of American auto engineering. Just take all the controversy surround the GM company away and think of the vehicle as a piece of machinery. The design is outstanding, both external, and internal. The fit and finish is at par with many Japanese manufacturers. The cabin is accommodating and the drive is comfy and noise-free. The six-speed auto transmission is a marvel of engineering. In fact, GM went ahead and beat Toyota to it. Toyota followed with its own 6- speed soon after though.

Checked out the Saturn Aura as well. I worked for Saturn for a year and had driven the 08 Aura very often, great car I knew it would be my next. Once 0% was offered almost across the board for GM it was down to the Aura XR 4cyl vs. the Malibu LT2. The one thing I can say from my experience driving this car is if you are looking into 4cyl the 6 speed is a must. The original 2008 4 cyl 4 speed was loud! Pitted local Saturn dealership vs. Chevy dealership and went with who had the better bottom line out the door pricing. I will admit I liked the subtle differences of the Malibu interior, especially the suede leather and leather around the shifter to make clean up easier.

The obvious allure of this car is the exterior styling. Not dramatic, just great, clean lines. The interior is roomy, and the trunk is quite large. Having driven all of the Malibu's competitors, I thought this car would be Chevy's big score. Then the small disappointments set in. From my perspective, the one thing I can't live with is the front entry and egress. The stylists clearly won the battle here. Exiting the car makes me feel like I'm in an Italian sports car. Nice interior, well laid out, well-equipped. Trunk opening narrow, but spacious trunk. Still don't like the klunky 4 banger.

There wasn't anything special about the Camry and the Mazda 6 didn't handle very well so it eventually came down to the last three and overall I preferred the Malibu over the others. The ride is just as smooth and quiet as the other two, so if you can live without the silly little extras the Malibu is the way to go. You definitely get the most value for your dollar.

Shopped the Malibu against the Fusion and found the LT1 4Cycl 6Auto to be much better; better gas mileage, standard features, interior/exterior look. Thought I had to have the 6 Cycl, but after driving the 4cycl 6auto knew that it was enough. Love that Electronic Stability Control is standard. Even though the Fusion cost a few dollars less, the Malibu had everything I wanted, standard, whereas I would have had to add options to the Fusion. The Malibu feels like a "luxury" auto for under $25,000.

This is the nicest car I have ever owned! Great on gas, quiet, great looking, handles like a dream. If these are the cars coming from GM now and in the future, by stock now! I just can't say enough great things about this car! Love It!

Luxury Car and Fun to Drive

The 6 speed 2.4L v4 is definitely the way to go. It has great fuel economy and is built as good as a BMW in my opinion. It is great to see that you do not need the v6 (which I had in my last car) to get the quiet ride and good acceleration. I was looking for a good family 4-door sedan that would also be fun to drive back and forth on my long commute to work (on the congested roads of NJ). Based on my budget of 20-25K, I had considered many new cars and also a low mileage BMW used car. After test driving, the Malibu was the clear winner. My wife and I were actually shocked at how smooth and quiet the ride was (though tried to keep the smiles off our faces before negotiating the price).

I switched to Japanese imports because of the poor experiences I've had with US car models. After reading the JD Power review on the new Malibu, and test driving every import model in this class, (Accord, Camry, Altima, Mazda6), I decided to take a chance again on a Chevy. The car is great! I love the quiet, smooth ride. The interior is well designed and very comfortable. And I was able to buy the features I wanted without having to upgrade to expensive features I didn't want. I also spoke to someone who use to work with GM and found out GM put a lot of work into making the Malibu a top quality car, which sold me on the concept that this car would last as long as the Asian imports.

Chevy Malabu LTZ V6- Many Positives

I would consider myself a car man; this is the first US car I have purchased. I was attracted to GM's incentives and the relatively low priceof $22K for V6 with a trade incentive. Car is heavy and quiet. Seats are above average. Handling is a little heavy, but a serene ride prevails. Not really a sports sedan, but a refined cruiser with a firm, but Cadillac firm feel. Rear window is small and rear headrests block the view. Side mirrors provide good side/ rear vision to compensate. Engine is smooth and powerful, but a bit slow from 0-20mph. Then the car takes off. Be careful or you will really pay at the pump. I get 17mph in city (non stop-and-go traffic). Mixed hwy/c- 19mph.

Extremely Happy With This Malibu

I'm a long-time BMW driver who bought a Malibu as a second vehicle and I actually love driving this car. I'm very happy with the quality, performance, comfort, and features. For the price of a base model 4-cyl 176 hp Accord, this Malibu (after multiple rebates and incentives) has V-6, satellite, 18" wheels, OnStar, bluetooth, and an excellent stereo. An enthusiastic endorsement from a BMW driver (I'm driving my 12th BMW) should count for something. GM has proven that they can make excellent cars, now they just have to figure out how to make money on those cars.

I do not trade cars that often, and I buy new cars only. Even though I really wanted a Cadillac CTS (could not justify the cost), the Malibu has proven to be a nice surprise! The exterior looks are great. Most people are surprised it is a Chevy. The handling and acceleration are good (I got the 6-cyl. LTZ). Gas mileage for my mostly town-driving is 22-23. We got 28-30 on a recent short trip, however, with the A/C on! The interior is comfortable, but I do not like the plastic door panels. Love the On- Star, XM, Blue-tooth and information center. Friends who are on their second Camry rode in the Malibu and could not believe how nice it was!

More car for the money

I bought my wife a 2009 Camry XLE in the fall and wanted to buy myself something different when our van died. I test drove the Accord, Altima, and Malibu. The Malibu was the quietest and smoothest ride of the three. Also, when it came down to price I felt like I got more car for my money. I bought the 2LT model.
