2018 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)

I purchased the '18 Equinox LT for $21,100. What a great deal! The fuel economy averages between 38-41 MPH on the highway, 32-35 in the city. The peppy 1.5 Turbo is great for acceleration vs the previous model. I have no problems with the front seats. I put over 7,000 miles on the Equinox in 3 months and have no complaints about comfort. The rear leg room is also impressive.

Extemely rough ride

If the highway is smooth as glass, my Equinox rode as smooth as any quality automobile. However, when it came to rough surface such as cracks, shallow dips or holes, the car practically beat me to death with hard jolts. I ended up with a headaches and pain in the spine. Seats are like sitting in a bucket. GM is proud of the new "stiff suspension" they built into the car and it sucks. I drove the car 175 miles and could take no more. I did a buy-back.

Pleasantly surprised with acceleration. Peppy and responsive 1.5T engine. Large cargo area and spacious back seat foot area. If you’re leasing the car get everything in writing prior to signing papers. Dealer attempted to add additional fees at last moment.

I hadn't owned a GM vehicle since the early 90's and now I remember why. I bought the top of the line Equinox in July 2018. After the first 4 or 5 months it developed an annoying vibration at speeds about 30 mph, felt like driving on a bumpy road at lower speeds, a vibration at freeway speeds. Took it to the dealer, asking them to check wheel balance, suspension components for loose items, or maybe a failing shock. They old me it's because of the nine-speed transmission shifting into high gear causing the engine to lug. I verified for myself by manually keeping the transmission in a lower gear (and thus a higher RPM) the problem still existed. Took it to the dealer again, explaining this. They checked wheel balance (nothing else) and said it was within spec. Being suspicious, I took it to an independent shop. They verified balance was within spec. Grew more unhappy with the ride every time I drove it and decided to take my losses, and traded in for a new Honda Passport. Much better vehicle in all aspects. Trade-in value was awful, lost almost half its original value. After this experience I doubt I'll ever get another GM vehicle.

Overall the 2018 Equinox I leased is great in some things and poor in others. I don't like the front seats. They are hard and too small and I am not a large person. I had leased a 2015 Equinox. The ride and comfort of that car was way above that of the 2018. I"ve had cars for over 55 years and everyone of them have been a Chevy except for when they still made the Oldsmobile. I will have to rethink my options when it comes time to lease a new car. I think it will be a change in brand.

Really happy with this car. Gets well over 40 mpg on highway. Very comfortable without being too big. Gets lots of compliments on two tone biscuit and black interior. Feels well made and decent materials. AWD works great in the snow. Have driven 22,000 miles since new and only took it once to replace a small filter that went bad. Thats it.

Chevy Settles for the Field Goal-Again

Bill G, 11/01/2018
2018 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV AWD (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
6 of 7 people found this review helpful

My wife and I are both tall and large so our choices in vehicles has much to do with ingress, egress and do we fit. Our previous SUV, a 2015 Equinox had been a very good vehicle, even surviving two accidents involving fairly major front end damage without developing a single squeak or rattle. Also, in 33k miles the only unscheduled service was to repair a sticky door lock switch. The 2.4L 4 cylinder was adequate, delivered 28-30 MPG highway but just 21 MPG around our small town. When our lease was up, we decided on another AWD Equinox LT with the base 1.4L turbo 4 clay and 6 speed auto. My review is based on 5,100 miles and six months of ownership. Improvements over the previous generation are many.Much better outward visibility and sight lines enhanced by the blind spot monitoring system. Nearly perfect control and display layout. GM kicks butt in this area of this design. Better sound system. Much better climate control system. Better steering feel and a tighter turning circle. Bigger, better side mirrors. Great brakes. The power lift tailgate. The small turbo 4 has very good low end power and is generally up to the task. However the auto stop system for the engine is very annoying if you are driving in stop and go traffic. Luckily, it is easy to defeat- just put the shift control in manual and select 6th gear. The transaxle will still function in fully automatic mode but the engine will not shut off. So far we are seeing 25 MPG around town but just 28 MPG on the highway. The biggest issue with the small 1.4L engine is its lack of top end power! No guts at all above 5,000 RPM which makes passing at highway speeds take a LONG time. If you drive on interstates most of the time, opt for the 2.0L , no wait, bad idea since it will raise the price by several thousand dollars and the Equinox is in no way worth that much money. My biggest complaints are the seats and the reductions in interior space! The front seats are way too small, especially the lower seat cushion. No thigh support at all. Also, there is about 2 inches less leg room than the 2015 which is a big deal to anyone over 6 feet tall. The back passengers get less room too. Worst of all, the rear seat no longer adjusts. In out 2015, I moved the back seat forward and could haul my wife’s wheelchair without folding the seat backs. The 2018 requires the rear seats to be folded flat to fit a wheelchair thereby making it a two passenger SUV. WHY did GM reduce the interior length while not reducing the overall length of the SUV. Stupid. Our particular Equinox is one of a group delivered with infotainment displays which do not respond to the dash light dimmer properly. The display is always super bright, blinding the driver at night! I complained to Chevy via their Facebook page and was finally directed back to my dealer for a software update. The update allows the infotainment display to dim about 50 percent. Better, but it is still too bright on dark, rainy nights and is a real safety issue. We have also experienced some issues with the engine stumbling and making odd vibrations from time to time. Also, the drivers side front suspension makes loud booming noises from time to time and the car pulls to the left all the time. So far the dealer service department can’t find any issues. I’m betting the upper strut bearing is defective and will fail before it hits 10K.

Better Than Expected

Lynn, 05/11/2021

I'm a diesel guy and currently have 5 of them: Equinox, Jetta, Q5, F350, 300SD. A friend in the business did a nation-wide search and got me this one cheap after I rented a gas one waiting for my Passat diesel to get repaired after a collision. I loved the utility and driving qualities of the Equinox, particularly the seating position and visibility. When I found out a diesel version existed I had to have it. Bought with 20k miles, I've added 6k in 3 months. Sold the Passat. Handling is spot on. Love the comfort level. Prefer it to the wife's Q5. Controls are intuitive. I love the vented seats, power lift gate, remote start, heated steering, cargo capacity. Overall about 38mpg. 33 in city, 39 at 80mph Idaho to Las Vegas twice, 46mpg on 70mph highways. This is better than the Passat which is not AWD and has less capacity. Interior materials are better than I had expected. I am very pleased. I changed the oil myself without much hassle, once I realized I would need to loosen a cross-member for the filter to clear. A couple of gripes: the stock Michelin tires which need to be replaced soon, which may be an issue with alignment or just this style of Michelin. I'm going to put some SUV all-season tires on so I can wander the desert. Next, all the messages and auto-start/stop that I can't turn off. I managed to turn off a lot of the nanny stuff but not all of it. I do like the lane change warning lights on the side mirrors when in the city. I am happier with this used car than I have been with any new car I've ever purchased. My '17 diesel Colorado was good utility-wise, but had quality issues, making me leery of GM overall. We will see how this thing lasts and I'll update if I detect any problems. I encourage others to do so as well since there is very little out there for research.

Traded in my 2013 Ford Explorer for a 2018 equinox and I have never regretted anything more. This car is not comfortable to drive or ride in and the seats are hard and too skinny. Had it for 10 months now and every time I drive below 15 mph it starts jerking and acting like it wants to stall out. Not sure if this has to do with the auto stop, which I also hate, but guess I will be putting my less than a year old car in the shop now. Biggest POS ever and I can't wait to get rid of it. Do not buy this car!

tet drove a base model with 2.0 turbo. Chassis is good, nice ride and responsive handling, steering and brakes are responsive with good feel. Transmission was smooth, and the engine powerful, though a touch trashy when pushed hard.A little more road noise than I might have expected but not too objectionable. Biggest drawback was the seats, both driver and passenger front were too tight across the lower ribs. My wife and I are both in shape athletes, so we were surprised by how the side bolsters felt. Seat bottoms were fine for us, but larger people may find them intrusive. Salesman suggested that the leather seat models are a little less restrictive, had a quick seat in them and he might be right. I immediately noticed that the steering wheel profiling is a little different, so different seats are certainly plausible

Equinox Secret No One Knew

When you buy an LT, it comes standard with a 7" screen infotainment center screen and a larger 8" screen is optional. What Chevrolet doesn't advertise and also what everyone at the dealership wasn't aware of is that with the 7" screen, you can't use the Chevrolet Mylink for Bluetooth. Chevrolet MLink is only available with the 8" screen. With the 7" screen, you must download the Google Voice app, link that to the infotainment system and use your data time to make a hands-free call. But to purchase optional the 8" screen, you must also purchase the optional sun package that contains a sun roof. We had a 2011 Equinox and you could make a hands-free using a flip phone! But after 8 years of technology advancements, you can't do it with the 2018 Equinox.

I have a 2018 Equinox with 1800 miles on it. The celanoid box that controls the transmission is having issues. I was told that this is becoming a common problem. The vehicle with groan and will not shift. The next problem is that they do not make replacement parts for this yet! So my vehicle is sitting at the dealership until it can be fixed!!! They did give me a loaner (another Equinox).

Regret buying

We regret buying the 2018 Equinox. The reason why we regret buying it is that we found out two months after purchasing the car that the fuel gauge was not reading correctly. Took it to the dealership and they said that GM knew about the problem since October 2017 and have not fixed it yet and are not warning consumers about the car problem. We contacted GM and they said that they're looking into it and that there's nothing that they can do right now for us. And the only way to keep track of our fuel is we have to keep resetting the trip gauge. This is very inconvenient for me being a mother having to worry if my car is going to run out of gas while driving it I should not have to do this with a brand new car.

Bought this car in June 2018.. It has about 3,000 miles. It is good on gas.. It is very noisy.. If anyone has a hearing problem...don't buy this car. My husband can never hear me the first time. Too much road noise..Not enough insulation... I am not a fan of the car shutting off when you stop at the light or any thing else. It is a very uncomfortable feeling for me and I have not gotten used to it ... I am not happy owning this car and may have to trade it ... It is sort of like getting the cheap seats at the concert... Buyers interested in this car should really drive it for longer than a test drive ...

Small gas tank, primative info center

YearsOfDriving, 02/09/2018
2018 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
7 of 9 people found this review helpful

I have been driving this car for over a month now. The first thing I noticed that is the gas tank. It's really small for a SUV. Even with less than 50 miles range, it only takes about 10 gallons. Though the gas mileage is ok but I wish it holds more gas. I am surprise that the ECO mode is actually less gas efficient than the normal mode according to the car's own measurements. It's my first car with Carplay and Android Auto. The Carplay works very well though it only supports limited app and not Google map. I do have issue with Android Auto. It connects but OK Google hardly works. It may be the car or Google. The display on the info screen has no design at all. It only has six icons with plenty of blank space. It looks something from the 70s or worst. I think if you are connected with Carplay or Android Auto, you can't connect other device with Bluetooth. It may connect only one BT device also. It does connect automatically when you get in the car. Have no issue with the capless gas tank and never had filling issue. There is not a button t turn off the auto stop, why? I don't think I will buy one for myself for many reasons.

I have wanted an Equinox for a long time. CONS....I don't like the stop /start engine at stop signs. The engine just dies so take off is slow. Should have option to turn off. Next we got comfort package because we wanted remote start because we live in cold climate during the winter. Remote start works well but fan does not automatically divert to the highest setting. My 2008 Impala always was on high speed during remote start. And also the heated seats aren't even remotely warm when you get in the car. You can't feel heated seats and yes I have that option turned on. The whole point for remote start in a cold climate is for car to be warm. Am disappointed in this. Otherwise I am satisfied with my Equinox. The gas milage has been good at 32 MPG.

At 60000 miles needed new torque converter and transmission. Dealership hard to work with. I complained about the noises for months prior. Told me I had to wait for engine light to come on. Less than a month after new parts put in the same noises started. They blew me off big time. They new it was a problem car and after numerous visits and complaining they provided me an extended warranty. 50000 miles later back in shop with same problem and now add a diesel particulate matter sensor (not covered) for 800.00. Worst 35,000.00 purchase ever made!!!

This is an excellent first time SUV but. The entertainment center is excellent, I wish the speakers had a little more power but I would have to have gotten the premier, I love my panoramic roof, I love my huge touch screen, heated seats work so well they even get a little of your lower lumbar. I also used to drive with back support, but I haven't needed to in this car. The safety features are awesome, for a little more money I could have gotten the 360 view. But the rear camera does a great job of seeing people on either side of the car. I highly recommend it.

We bought a used, loaded, lease return Equinox at 19k miles, with all but the turbo 2.0, and no diesel and leather. Was very happy to see it was possible to get factory heated drivers and passenger seats with cloth. We've owned leather seats on several cars, cloth feels better. I've heard a lot of complaints regarding the acceleration of this car with the smaller 1.5 engine. Maybe after driving company car CUV's for several years now, I'm just used to cars of this size with 4 cylinders. Because this car in my opinion, has more than ample acceleration. I drove a Ford Escape company vehicle for 4 years, and it easily equals that car. They recently put us in new 2018 Hyundai's, and the Equinox easily out performs the Hyundai in overall engine performance. I'm an old gear head that has had my share of high performance vehicles. I guess in my mind, I didn't buy this car for that. I got it for my wife. We drove the Escape, the Big three Asian models(I know they're built here now), the Equinox and Escape were clearly in our opinion, the more solidly built cars with real heft in the doors when opening and closing them, and a real solid traditional American car feel in the ride. In fact, when we drove it, we were stunned in how solid it felt, as if were chiseled out of granite. Mileage is a very pleasant surprise at 28.8 mpg overall. Although we didn't really shop for exterior looks, I am impressed with how nice the car looks in the driveway. Gotten several compliments at the store and gas station. So far the car has been very reliable. The factory six speaker stereo is surprisingly nice sounding for a base stereo, excellent sound separation, nice deep bass without the need for high volume. The rear passenger space was a very pleasant surprise. There's plenty of leg room back there. The 2009 Nissan Rogue we have, was severely lacking in that regard. I'll post a long term report when we get there. Oh, I almost forgot, even though the seats seem comfortable, and pretty much in line with other CUV's, I do agree that Chevy could make a longer bottom cushion, there's plenty of front interior space to do so.

The 1.5 gas is kind of rough shifting, not very peppy. The 2.0 gas is very nice, smooth and has good pickup, but I want better MsPG. The Diesel is slow from 0, but pretty lively after it's up into 30-40 MPH and very good for freeway maneuvers. I am concerned about long term reliability, and not in a hurry, so I'll wait and see a bit. No strong opinion on tech yet. Didn't drive at night.

Love mine, NOT made for cold weather

Pearl , 01/13/2020

3 of 3 people found this review helpful

This is my second winter having my equinox. Last year my engine light came on & said “engine power reduced”. (-30C to -40c) Took it in and they said the intercooler freezes up. They ordered in a part that “fixes” it and gave me a grill cover. Never had a issue after that. Now this winter (only -15c) it happened again. I will be taking it in to see how they plan to fix it. Just doesn’t seem to be made for Canadian winters. I plan on getting a new vehicle in a few years. I don’t think I’d be too excited about keeping this as a long term vehicle because of the issues in the cold and the where I live. In warmer climates, you should be golden! In nice weather, I LOVE my equinox. I get good gas mileage, feels cozy, love the dash display/radio & technology (premier). I wish I would have got a 2.0L so it had more pep to it. The 1.5L is good, but it lags when speeding up. Update: brought it in yesterday. Got my vehicle back in the evening. This morning on the way to work the engine light came on again. It’s -30c. If I knew About the issues with it in the cold weather, I wouldn’t have purchased it. They shouldn’t sell a vehicle in cold climates when it can’t handle it. GM better do a recall to fix this soon!

They have incorporated many new features that had been upgrades from the 2016 Equinox. Examples are: automatic tailgates, space in cargo area is now wide enough to put my golf clubs sideways as opposed to dropping the back seat down; push button start; car sensing key fob.

Equinox love the style. Great looking car. Have 5000 miles in two months. Trips too Philadelphia and Boston from our home in South Carolina. Great gas mileage. Very comfortable ride but. Riding on 95 through North Carolina lost power and lights came on in the dash board. Then went off. Made it home but scary. Took it to the dealer they said no codes. But they did change the inter cooler for the turbo. So far so good.

I purchased a 2018 Chevy equinox June 2021 , 6months my truck dashboard lid up like a Christmas tree , with all these problems , transmission , engine , traction control issues . called dealership would not let me bring truck in until 7 days later took it in any way according 2 them they could not find a issue because no codes came up , they had 2 keep my truck the whole weekend with no loaners available , how can a huge dealership have no loaners available truly ridiculous !! And the service dept was not that friendly !! I will not buy another Chevy car of any kind !!! And the people in the service dept need to find another job if they don't like what they do !!!! So do not purchase another Chevy vehicle!!!!!

This 2018 Equinox would get 5 stars if it didn't have the auto stop. GM should have an option to deactivate as I"m pretty sure that either the starter or battery will go before the end of my 3 year lease. I wish GM still had the CD players in their models as the display for audio/MP3/port jumps around when selecting songs. WiFi isn't always strong in this vehicle as the Nav is constantly in connecting for recalculating mode.

The cars exterior is easily dented. The interior material shows marks and is hard to remove. The chrome outlines of the interior air outlets reflect back into the side mirrors during the day. The front vents on top of dash reflect back onto windshield. The front seats are poorly fitting. The electronics are hard to use. The hood latch is hard to operate and the use of no hood supports is bad, having to use a cheap hood support. Overall tremendous road noise transmitted back into interior.

All the features on the car are great my couple of issues are high road noise inside of the car and rides very rough more like my 3/4 ton pickup with overload springs. For $38,850 it should ride like very expensive luxury car. I wish that we would have drove it more on different roads and we may not have purchased it.

Give me a real gas tank

They reduced the capacity of the gas tank by 22%. The gas tank either does not fill all the way up or the gauge does not read full EVER... I assume this works on the opposite end and the Empty line is also wrong. So I am now at the gas station every three days. Also no gas cap? I have seen some reports that water then is being let in, because it pools at the spout and when you put the gas line it, the water goes into the tank. I also hate the automatic shutoff/restart feature. I purchased this vehicle planning on keeping it for the long haul. I am sure that the starter and other engine parts will go bad from all the extra restarts.

I've only had this 2018 Equinox since December of 2017. Thankfully it's a lease so I can get rid of it when the time comes. I have issues with the technology not work. Currently it's my wifi/service. Initially, it was stated that my phone was outdated, and thats why I couldnt access the wifi, why there was so much lag, and why my secondary entertainment system barely worked (which I wasn't told about prior to purchase) ive since gotten a new model phone, and now I have no service whatsoever, my bluetooth barely works, and I cant access the internet at all. I've contacted my phone company and there's nothing wrong in their end. I also have this unbearable, high pitched ringing that comes from somewhere in the front of my car. It's one of the electronics. I'm trying to work with my dealer, but they're not returning my calls and doing nothing more than plugging it in and looking for a service bulletin that's not there. This noise is constantly there and I can hear it over everything. I've no cross bars on my roof.

This car is super comfortable and easy to get used to but if you are accelerating and trying to make it turn, it would be hard to steer since the car has so much power. The back seats are also very comfortable with plenty of leg room. There are several flaws with this car. The WORST idea was to eliminate the GAS CAP! WHY??? It’s dangerous and pointless! Every time you put gas and drive, you will see the gas has spilled out and on the side of the car. The gas will evaporate and spills out! I hope they fix this on the 2019 models.

The 2.0 Turbo - An Amazing Improvement

Joe Magrey, 12/26/2017

7 of 10 people found this review helpful

Going from the sluggish 4 cyl 2012 Equinox to the much improved 2018 Equinox LT with the 2.0 Turbo 4 cylinder was an amazing improvement. I reviewed all options carefully before buying. I went with the Confidence and Convenience package along with the Sun and Infotainment package. These two packages with the LT added all of the extra bells and whistles that I needed. I did not want to pay more $$$$ for the expensive Premier level. It still had more expensive options which raised the price way too much. ALSO - I bought this through a Chevy dealership and presented my Costco Card to get their Winter Holiday deal. This meant Supplier Pricing plus a $700 gift card directly from Costco. It took 9 weeks to arrive but it is as good as cash at Costco stores. ALSO EVEN MORE - Before buying, I contacted my GM CARD credit card. They added an additional $1,000 to the points I already accumulated on my GM card. Combined with an aggressive Chevrolet rebate, the Costco Supplier price and the GM Card extra cash, the deal was too good to pass up. Combined, it made great financial sense to buy this new vehicle at such a discounted price. Ford, Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Chrysler couldn't come close to this deal!

First of all I would have never bought this vehicle had I known it had an auto stop feature! What in the world was chevrolet thinking? When I test drove the car I didn't notice it and my salesman "forgot" to mention that this vehicle had this feature that you can not turn off!!! I do not feel safe in this vehicle because when it cuts off at a stop sign or whenever you have to stop there is a moment of hesitation before the car starts back up. And I'm sure the engine cutting on and off is alot of wear and tear on the motor! Oh and the gas mileage, give me a break! What was chevrolet thinking once again about making such a small gas tank! I actually owned a 2013 equinox before I traded it in which I liked and purchased the 2018. If I had it to do all over again I would have kept my 2013 equinox that I could go almost a full 7 days on a tank of gas!!! In the 2018 I am at the gas station every 3 days!!! But I guess when you go from a 17 gallon gas tank to a less than 12 gallon gas tank that's what you get! Oh and I also hear a thumping noise in the rear end but I took it to the dealership I bought it from and they swear they don't hear anything! Well, they must not be able to hear well because even my kids ask what that thumping noise is in the back! You can hear it over the radio!! Also why in the world would you put a pump handle on a seat to lower it up or down instead of motorized, it is so cheap! I literally laugh everytime I have to pump the seat up or down to adjust it! Anyway, needless to say I am so very disappointed! I will be driving this vehicle for a short time and trading just as soon as I can! I have read some of the reviews from others and I'm glad I'm not the only one that is having these issues!

Make sure you have a long test-drive, maybe a 24hr one. We were given a two day test-drive and we still ended up buying it, after almost 3k miles we wish we hadn't. The Diesel gets great MPG but it is incredibly loud, I am familiar with diesel vehicles, and this thing was louder than my 83 300D Mercedes. The driver seats have a ridiculous amount of bolster support, which seemed nice at first but tends to hurt my back during longer drives. The diesel motor is quick once it gets going, it does have a lag with the turbo. That being said, once you are going the suspension falls short and the SUV just tends to slosh all around. You might think that would make the ride that of a luxury car, but it definitely doesn't have that. The ride isn't bad, but for the lack of command in turns it should ride like a Lincoln. The infotainment system is pretty good and easy to use, I like the center speedo screen and how it works with the infotainment screen. All in all, it does have a few nice touches, but it mostly feels cheap. Dirt also shows on everything since all of the interior is flat black. I do appreciate Chevy bringing the diesel motor to more of their line-up, this one was just a miss. Maybe it will be better with the next model year.

They ruined the Equinox

I leased a 2016 Equinox 2 years ago. What I loved the most about it was how roomy it was. The seats were wide, there was tons of leg room and the interior seemed quality. I should have just bought out the 2016. The moment I got into the 2018 Equinox my heart sank. They made it SO SMALL. Where as I felt like I was driving a full SUV in the 2016, in the 2018 it felt like I was driving a tiny sporty full on crossover. I have more leg room upfront in my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The 2018 Chevy Equinox is not worth your time or money. To get to a payment we were comfortable with we sacrificed all of the specs. I could care less about every other spec except for Apple Play, WiFi, Bluetooth and back-up camera. Really that’s all I cared about having..so I didn’t think it would hurt to consider going with the 2018 without the extra bling since Apple Play was standard in all of the newer GM models. We went through the whole monthly leasing costs/quotes. We had landed on what they would consider the “base model.” We went out to look at it and I was so disappointed and even more annoyed that the interior was TWO TONED! Not even in a nice way. It was black with a hideous light gray. Even in our 2016 the interior seemed way better quality and ascetically pleasing. I wish we would have just traded in our Hyundai and had just bought the 2016 Equinox. The price and payments we had on the 2016 Equinox were MUCH lower than the new dinky little 2018 Equinox. If you’re thinking you’ll get the same space and quality you payed LESS for in 2016...don’t even bother. It’s not worth it. We walked away frustrated and a bit cheated...Now we will wait a few months longer and look around for something comparable to Chevy Equinox...but I’m pretty sure it won’t be through GM...

Turbo power

Marci, 06/12/2022
2018 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
2 of 2 people found this review helpful

The turbo engine makes all the difference in the performance for the Equinox . . . gives you the power to pass quickly. Interior is roomy . . . even for back seat passengers. Handles well on straight roads . . . and especially in the curves. Premium cloth seats in the LT model are good quality. Put all weather mats on floor to protect carpet. Great gas mileage. In town/out of town average anywhere from 36 to 46 mpg . . . depending on tailwind, heat, and speed. This particular SUV like 56 mph. Go 60 mph and over and the mpg drop the faster you go. Definitely, does not like AC on with car idling in a parking lot . . . watch the gas gage go down . . . literally ! Tailgate does not seal as tight as we would like on dusty roads . Original Michellin tires on car were an accident waiting to happen . . .never notified of dangers . . . replaced at 30,000 miles. Overall this has been a very good choice since we have owned this car 5 years. With 80,000 miles thinking of trading, but gas mileage and performance makes it difficult to take the plunge.

No way. When I stop the car I had to fight really hard with the break to get it to stopped. I am thankful to still be alive today. I realized now that I am not alone. This has happened before. I will never feel safe again driving that car or riding with someone in an equinox. No way. I just got that car and as so proud of it. But not anymore. I wish I didn’t make the first payment.

My 2018 Equinox has been a horrible experience

I bought my vehicle in October 2017,10 weeks after purchasing my 2018 Equinox(after trading in my 2013 Equinox), the car stopped accelerating on the freeway for about one minute. It went all the way down to 40 mph luckily it was later at night hence I did not get rearended. Took to the dealer and the said the gas tank was not sealing properly and fuel had leaked all over the undercarriage of the vehicle. Which i noticed prior to the incident the car was not accelerating well but I thought I was going crazy since it was brand new. They had to order a new part and replace the gas tank. Right after I pick up the vehicle, I was driving over the Howard bridge from St. Pete to Tampa and the car started convulsing/shaking, the dashboard traction control and engine lights were going on and off. Some how I still made it to my destination. Took it back first thing Monday morning since it happened on a Saturday. They stated they did not flush all the fuel out properly from prior repair... and that gas had leaked into all the hoses. They kept it again and did a flush. I was livid at this point. I fought with corporate. I blasted them on social media, I tagged JD Power and GM CEO and no one responded and they declined the buy back I was requesting. Now, April 2019 (a year and a half into the purchase) the reverse gear stios working out of nowhere! They had to take out the transmission to figure out the problem and they had to repair and replace the entire reverse gear in the transmission. And my rearview camera screen/radio has gone out twice in the last two weeks months. My bluetooth always acts up... when I hang up a call it does not hang up on the screen it keeps the time running, so then I have no radio and no gps and cannot dial out again. It has been nothing but a nightmare! So disappointed! I've tried to use lemo law but "it does not meet the guidelines". I will no longer give Chevy any of my business. You're just a number to them. They do not back their product, yes they honor the warranty but they should be able to admit they gave me a faulty vehicle and own up to taking it back. I opted to buy the 2019 at the difference of what was owed on the 2018. But, they did not want to help at all.

I have owned this car for about 3 months now. I love it. Before this I had a 2009 Toyota Corolla and this was my first new SUV purchased. I wanted a safe, new SUV but didn’t want to spend the cash for a more expensive vehicle like the CRV or RAV 4. I love all the tech included in this car even with the base model. Keyless entry, push button start, back up camera, WiFi, on star, apple car play, etc. most of the competitors for similar sized SUVS don’t include all these features at the same price point. I also find the vehicle to be very comfortable and spacious. Another added bonus is the rear AC vents for the back seat, which is great for those of us frequently transporting sweaty kiddos in the back. Handling and driving is excellent. No issues with braking, steering or acceleration even at high speeds. Truly a pleasure to drive. It’s too soon to gauge reliability but no issues so far. I definitely love my Chevy and would recommend to others looking for a well loaded, comfortable SUV on a tighter budget.
