I bought my equinox used... An it's been the best car I've ever owned... It gets fairly decent gas mileage... It has over 250,000 miles on it. An it still runs an drives like a brand new car... I've drove it about 120,000 miles since I've owned it...had to replace the belt... The sun roof is starting to leak.... Other than that .... It's been awesome

What happened with Chevrolet vehicles?

A little over two years ago I decided to replace my 1994 Dodge Dakota. The old Dodge ran good but was beginning to have issues. Since this was our second vehicle and basically my "back and fourth to work" ride we decided to purchase a nice used second car. We test drove several and decided on a 2008 Equinox. This car had 79,000 verified miles with no rust. It had a great ride, was roomy, and had the features that were lacking on the Dakota like working heat and air-conditioning. Little did we know the crap storm that would take place. After a week the car would buck and sputter under acceleration. We took it back to the used car dealer. They installed new spark plug wires. This took care of the problem for about two weeks. My wife called the local Chevy dealer and as it turned out there was a sort of "silent" recall on this vehicle. They installed "special" spark plug wires and solved the problem. I believe in preventative maintenance. My vehicles get regular oil changes etc. A couple of months ago I noticed hesitation when climbing hills or passing. I took it to a reputable mechanic. The car now had 92,000 miles. The transmission needed a re-build to the tune of $4,000! You cannot check the fluid on this car unless you are a mechanic. The dip stick is way up underneath. The owners manual says that checking the transmission fluid is not necessary. We bit the bullet, paid the money and had it repaired. Suck it up right? Wife loves the car and drives it exclusively even though it was supposed to be mine for work. Couple of weeks ago I got in it to go to the store. Turned the wheel and heard a "snap"! I thought perhaps I ran over a twig or something. Drove to the store and back. Every time I turned the wheel I heard more "snaps". It got to the point where when I got back in the car, put it in drive, the car would not want to move unless I pushed on the gas and got it going. I knew there must be something severely wrong and took it to a garage. The steering wheel is off center so there must be something wrong. I always thought GM vehicles were good cars as my parents always swore by their Chevys and Buicks. In 2009 I bought new Chevy HHR. I had several problems with this car, most were minor and covered under warranty. When I purchased this car I was hesitant because of the problems with the HHR. I rationalized that perhaps the HHR was just a "bad day at the factory" lemon! I realize this is an old used car. This Equinox makes the HHR look like a Mercedes. I paid $9,000 for this and have already put $4,000 into it! I am certain the new repair will not be cheap. My dad used to tell people that Ford meant "fix or repair daily"! I have a new one. GM means "get mechanic"! I miss my Dakota! My Dodges and Plymouths never let me down! If you see a nice low mileage GM vehicle make sure you have you have a bunch of saving or a high limit credit card to take care of it!

2008 Much Improved

2008 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV AWD (3.4L 6cyl 5A)

This is my second Equinox. I previously leased a 2006 AWD LT. I recently bought the 2008 because of great dealer incentives. This one has much better handling, fewer blind spots, and a excellent, comfortable ride. I like the standard OnStar, which I used to have in my leased Trailblazers (3 of them). The gas mileage is excellent (25-26mpg hwy) even though I'm still in the process of breaking it in. I get a lot of compliments on it and it looks very sharp in black. I also got the remote start and it is awesome (cheap add-on, too). I looked a lot of vehicles and am so glad I bought this one.

Traded a 2006 Equinox LT for 2008 LTZ. Wanted an SUV with GPS. This is the best deal on the market for features and upgrades included. Very comfortable ride. Gas mileage is acceptable.

At least that's what my husband calls it. My little rollerskate. I've had it almost a year now and its still as fun to drive as it was the day I bought it. My little AWD goes through the deep snow like a dream. There's tons of room in the back for the kids to stretch out and we can still take the dog along with us on road trips and it gets decent gas mileage. The only complaint I have for my Equinox is that it is a little lightweight, if the wind is really blowing I have to keep both hands at 10 and 2 to keep it steady. But up here in Michigan we don't get too many windy days so it's only been a stressful ride once or twice. All in all it's a great little family car. Cute and fun to drive.
