2014 Los Angeles Auto Show: 2016 Audi A6 (FAQ)

2014 Los Angeles Auto Show

What Is It?
2016 Audi A6

What's New About This Model?
For 2016, Audi's handsome midsize luxury sedan has been slightly refreshed. Besides the not-so-obvious new head- and taillights, the interior gets two new color combinations and there's a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 252 horsepower.

When Does It Go on Sale?
Audi is expecting to have the 2016 A6 on sale here in the States in the spring of next year.

How Much Does It Cost?
No official pricing has been released yet, but based on current prices, we're thinking a starting price of about $45,000 for a base A6 and somewhere north of $75,000 for the 450-horsepower S6.

How Many Body Styles and Trim Levels Are There?
The 2016 Audi A6 comes as a four-door sedan only in A6 and S6 trims. The S6 gets a strong 4.0-liter V8.

What Kind of Engines and Transmissions Does It Have?

  • 2.0-liter four-cylinder — 252 hp, 273 pound-feet of torque
  • 3.0-liter supercharged V6 — 333 hp, 325 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.0-liter diesel V6 — 240 hp, 428 lb-ft of torque
  • 4.0-liter V8 — 450 hp, 406 lb-ft of torque
  • Seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • Eight-speed automatic transmission

What Unique Features Does It Offer?
Keeping with its high-end price tag, the A6 is available with an improved active lane assist, automatic emergency braking, night vision, head-up display and a faster version of Audi's MMI infotainment system.

What Models Will It Compete Against?
BMW 5 Series: The standard-bearer for the segment. The BMW 5 Series expertly combines a luxurious interior, sporty handling and some of the best engines in the biz. The 5 Series is available with four-, six- and eight-cylinder configurations and as a diesel or hybrid.

Lexus GS: Japan's answer to the German sport sedan, the GS is a winner on value, with strong engines and tons of features standard. It's visually bolder than its German counterparts — for better or worse.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class: If the 5 Series is the athlete of the group, the E-Class is the executive-in-training. Beautiful materials, expert craftsmanship and a ride that separates you from the harsh realities of the world.

Should You Wait for It?
The 2016 Audi A6 is a minor evolution on what is still a very good car. You won't be disappointed if you buy a 2015 before this one hits lots early next year.
