Well, when your battery is very low, you may be able to start, and as soon as it starts, the charging system, i.e. the alternator, is charging back your battery. However, if your battery is very very low, and if you tried to move at the moment, you may not have sufficient electricity for your engine, so it stall again. It happened to my Nissan Quest 94 early this year, and ... Read More
It seemed to me your van is good, except your battery is NOT fully charged. During winter time when day time is much shorter and people drive to work or back from home need to turn on headlights that did not allow more charge to battery, so when spring comes, especially after a few winters, battery may be low, and when summer comes and a/c turned on, may cars may have ... We had the same problem on our '95 quest - at the top of the emergency brake pedal is a switch. Either the switch is loose in the mount or it needs to be replaced. It isn't fun to get to of course but it can be done. Good luck.
Finally, we get a Quest that's made in Japan!!! The first generation was a joint venture between Nissan and Ford with mixed success. The last generation, Tennessee-made model was disappointingly nothing like the 'Quest Concept' Nissan teased us with--and it generated mediocre reliability ratings from Consumer Reports. This one is gorgeous, as it follows along the same styling lines as the current and previous JDM Nissan ElGrand. I love it! I ... Read More
1995 nissan quest that takes a very long time to warm up. Worse, though, is that unless the van is driven at higher RPM (highway driving @ 55+ mph) the air coming from the vents will never warm up! If you drive in the city, RPMs never get high enough and there is no heat, only air blows out at slightly above the outside temperature. We live in Michigan so this ... Read More
My wifes 1995 Quest has started having a problem. When she is driving the brake light on the dash will come on then go off. Doesn't seem to be any problem with the brakes but still the light has her worried. I"ve checked the brake fluid and it is fine. Any ideas what could be causing the light to come on? Other than that the van runs fine
i just picked up a nissan quest that has been sitting for about a year so i got it home and it doesnt want to start it trys it will turn over i also have the check engine light on but do not know how to check it the van is a nissan quest gxe 1995 so does anybody have a suggestions
Thanks for this post! Some of the screws were so hard to get to, I had to buy special long pliers to reach and turn them. If you keep following the hose from the fuel filter(the metal canister) to the engine, there are even more screws to tighten...(They would be located to the left of the picture) that is where I found my leak.
Found the problem I have a pinhole leak on the gas line that runs under the throttle body... I now have all the clamps tightened now i just have to change a short piece of hose and then all will be fine.. Thanks again :) edmunds rules!!
We have the same problem with our 1996 Quest, And now that winter is here the gas smell is terrible!!! I had tightened all the clamps a while back but I also missed that one that you pointed out in the picture.. I am going to tighten that one and see if it works I'll let you know what happens... Thank You so Much!!
We recently experienced the same problem you did on our Mercury Villager when we had unusually cold weather. Due to researching the manual, I was getting ready to replace the purge control solenoid when I found your posting. I tightened the clamp screws as you recommended and THE PROBLEM IS FIXED!!! You saved me both money and frustration with your posting. Many, many thanks!!!
We heard a low, heavy clicking when we turn the wheel sharp so we decided to change the power steering fluid. The thudding turned into squealing and we realized we probably put the wrong power steering fluid in. Does anyone know the "right" power steering fluid to put in? We have a 1995 Nissan Quest.
While my wife was coming home one night her van started acting funny, the steering wheel became extremely hard to turn and the brake pedal would not depress, the gas would not depress, she had to use the parking brake to stop the van. We had it towed home, and now the vehicle will not start. I can hear the fuel pump engage when the key is turned to the run ... Read More
It has been a long time since my rear wiper on my Nissan Quest 1995 stopped working. I do not know if it is a burnt out fuse or a broken motor. I you don't mind could you please tell me how I can resolve this issue and can make my rear wiper finally work again. Thank you very much. My Nissan Quest 1995 would appriecate it!! :) Oh I forgot ... Read More
1995 nissan quest xe. when i turned on the headlights, the parking lights and dashboard lights will not come on. when i turned the headlight switch to parking lights only and turn on the headlights again, parking lights and dashboard lights will come on. Intermittent problems. Does this sound like a bad headlight switch?
I had experienced a strong gas smell entering the cabin of my 1995 Quest usually when cold and running the heater or defroster. The smell would eventually disappear once the engine had warmed up. I came here and read several posts suggesting replacing the fuel rail rubber hoses or tightening up the screws on the clamps. The gas vapour leaks out of these ends when cold and if not snug. I ... I had the same problem with my '95 villager. It ended up being the screen for inside the air intake was just nasty with dust and derbris. Give that a look at before you do anything else.
Hello! My van is currently in the shop having the "line cylanoid" replaced. Could this be the cause for my van stalling and dying when I slow to a crawl or come to a complete stop? The RPMs drop real low and it just dies. It doesn' t make any noises, etc. The mechanic did a diagnostics on the van and the only indicator on the entire thing was the "line ... Read More
Hello. Just bought an older Quest (1999 GLE). Wondering if anyone who has one, or had one could remember the gas mileage they were getting (or distance per tank)? We had a 1995 Villager and the Quest seems to use more fuel, and I was wondering if what I am getting is normal or if there is a problem. I average around 290 miles on a tank of gas with 90% ... I had the same problem with my 1995 Nissan Quest. Have taken it to three shops. The first two did not fix it. The last one charged me $158 for labor when they replaced the fuel line between two fuel rails (near the passenger side under the hood). If anyone of you had the same replacement done by a mechanic, how much did you pay? Does $158 sound reasonable for the ... Read More
For flat folding third row seats, here's somewhat of a guide. These minivans have it: 1995-2006 Honda Odyssey 1999(?)-2006 Mazda MPV 2004-2006 Toyota Sienna 2004-2006 Nissan Quest (fold flat second row too) 2004-2006 Ford Freestar/Mercury Monterey 2005-2006 Dodge Grand Caravan (not sure if the 04's had it, but I think they had an early 05 run starting in Feb 04) The current GM vans (2005-present) have fold flat seats, but those ... Very suddenly, my automatic seatbelt isn't working. I have a 1995 Nissan Quest. The manual says that such a problem may occur after an accident, but I haven't been in one. The manual is confusing anyway. Can anyone help?
I have experienced a very similar problem for most of the 3 years I've owned my 95 Villager. Here in Nebraska, it gets very warm & humid in the summer months. In the spring, as soon as temps get over around 50 degrees, mine gets harder and harder to start cold, or after a moderate length hot soak. And in the warm humid summer temps, it will typically die and exhibit ... Read More
I have had the same problem as well. I have had this a few times. My van dies if I drive it for more than 30 minutes at 5000 feet at 100º or at 9000 feet and 80º. My first guess is that it a vapor lock problem but no one that I have talked to locally (Denver) has any clue about this. I'm thinking of replacing the fuel pump, but ... Read More
I too had a problem in heat last week driving into high altitude. I have 1995 Villager with over 100,000 miles. Van just died while driving with air on and into hills. Tow truck driver said I was six vehicle that day with similar problem. He suggested that it was "Vapor Lock," however, I have heard this does not exist on newer vehicles anymore. Even though, he turned the gas cap ... Read More

I recently purchased a 95 Nissan Quest XE. I'm having problems with the van dying. The van runs absolutely perfect except OCCASSIONALLY when I slow for a stop sign or corner, the van dies. It doesn't putter or make any noises, it just dies. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to take it somewhere and get totally ripped off if it's something small I can fix myself ... Read More

This is my second time to post about our 2004 Quest. We got the Quest in June, and due to the slow sales it was an early model. It had a few rattles in one door, but an adjustment fixed that. It had the AM radio problem, and the dealer added a new cable per the service bulletin. This was an extensive job requiring taking apart the dash. However, they got ... Read More
We have a 1995 Nissan Quest which needs another tire replacement w/in a few thousand miles. The orig. tires were Goodyear Eagle "H"-rated size 215/70R15 (97H). This van had larger tires because it had the optional towing pkg. - not that we needed it - it was just a left-over '95 model at years end. Most of these Quest vans did not have H-rated tires; most tire charts do not even ... Read More
I agree with earlier post - this area is kind of biased to Quest - but I honestly think it delivers the best value in many cases. For reference, I have been driving a 1995 Ford Windstar since 8/10/94 and it just cracked the 125k mark this week. Needed plenty of tender loving care and $ to make it though. Still runs, but it is time to move on... I'm getting ... Read More
But I have to ask the question... For those that have seen me post before, disregard the following statement. As the (not so proud) owner of a 1995 Ford Windstar, I will go to great lengths to avoid providing my hard earned money to FMC. There are far too many comparable (and in most cases better) options - especially in the minivan market. Having said that... Will this minivan, the all ... Read More
I currently own a 1995 Mercury Villager which I purchased 2 years ago, used. I have to say that I really like this van and it currently has 103,000 miles on it. Runs great. My issue is with safety. Oh great, now I have the exhaust manifold to look forward to? To answer your question: I never bought an extended waranty due to a pretty good Consumer Report at the time. I am certain Nissan would not have notified each Quest owner unless ... Read More
I am or should say was the owner of a 1995 Nissan Quest.
