    Our 1999 RX 300 failed with 93,000 miles on it in May 2010. We have 107000 on it and it is still going. We received $1800 check to cover parts from Lexus which went against our total bill of $5500. Good Luck to you.

    I bought my 2001 Lexus RX 300 brand new. At the time of purchased, the original set was Goodyear Integrity. The original set last 53,000 miles. I was so please that I purchased another set for the same vehicle. Right now, I am on my third set. The vehicle currently has 107,000 miles. I think I will still with Goodyear Integrity for forever.

    Don't. RX300 2001 or later expect a transaxle failure sub-100,000 miles even if the ATF is drained/flushed every 15,000 miles. RX330 model or better, DBW to "protect the drive train", alleviate the issue of premature transaxle failures. With DBW expect to randomly encounter, at the worse of all possible times, a 1-2 second re-acceleration "downshift" delay/hesitation. 2010 RX or later if you have true need for AWD functionality.     BTW, you actually have the external cooler, which is a standard equipment for 01 AWD. Check your front passenger side.

    I didn't went to dealer, because I think they would charge me money on inspection, and because I rarely service my car at dealer, so they would probably refuse any help. I prefer to install a long warranty one, in the long run.

    I suggest that you consult with Lexus Customer Service before having a non Lexus dealer make repairs. If it being repaired at a lexus dealer there is a good possibility the dealer and Lexus Corp will contribute toward the cost of repairs.

    Mine went out yesterday. No warning. Stopped at traffic signal and vehicle went in reverse instead of foward. The shifter was still in drive.     RX 300 Transmission is junk. They all seem to fail at 105,000 miles. Our family has had two RX 300 and both transmissions failed. These cars were driven like kittens no towing or teenage drivers. Lexus quality has gone way down hill. I will never buy another Lexus and I have owned seven and bought the first LS 400 in 1990.

    I'll bet you any money within the next 30 days your transmission will be gone. These transmissions on the 2000 and 2001 RX 300 were designed poorly and should have been recalled. We had two in the family and both transmissions went out at the same mileage 108,000. Never towed anything, no teenage drivers. Driven like a cupcake.

Just before we hit the exit ramp on the way back 43.9 MPG Cruise set at 69-70 mph two adults, two teen age campers and 150lbs of camping gear I can't believe it is that great.     I would to share the same experience with you. I have a 2001 Lexus RX 300 FWD and the check engine light, VSC and Trac Off came on. It stay on for about two days or so and turn off all by it self. I didn't attempt any repairs at all. It is best to speak to a mechanic about this. The mechanic will then tell you what to do?

    We have a 2001 RX300. I don't dare to tow anything with RX300 than two bikes on a rack. The FWD RX engine is not truck type engine to pull campers. remember that RX300 is based on Camy platform and not Tacoma. I alway wonder about that A/T overheat light in the dash.     I have a 2001 RX 300 and it's due for the 50,000 service. How much can I expect to have to put up for this? And also, is this service something that should only be done at a qualified Lexus dealership? I was thinking if I can get a cheaper price somewhere else, it might be worth it.

    I have a 2001 Lexus Rx 300, my CD and Tape player just stopped on me on a trip. The radio is working fine. When I press CD on the dash it does not come on at all or say no disc. Anyone have a problem with this? Maybe it is a fuse and it just controls the CD and tape player. Should be under warranty, I guess. Thanks

    We have had my wife's RX300 for about a month now. Here is my take so far: Good points: Excellent build/fit/finish. Good quality leather. Was worried that it could be as thin/soft as my Camry's.     We are finding a sticker price for used 2001 CPO RX of 30K to 33K on 4 dealer lots we have visited in Ohio, with no luck so far getting price below 29K. Looking for info on what others have paid, and experience/strategy you have had buying used from a Lexus Dealer. NADA lists trade in value at about 25.5K, but I imagine dealers are paying less.     I changed the battery with an 84 month battery which I will replace in four years. The cranking came back to life strong and clock holds time fine. There is still slight/faint flickering that you have to watch for, to notice it. The flickering was worse after 20-30 minute driving with lights on.     the 15k service would have cost $450 at scottsdale Lexus, scott toyota just across the street charged me $230--a no brainer.     There were some significaiton changes made to the 01, aside from the cosmetic changes (clear tail lights, revised front grill). The most important are the additions of Vehicle Skid Control and Brake Assist. You can read all of them on Lexus's website below.     Thanks for all the feedback. There is also Lexus of Tacoma but I have no information regarding their integrity or pricing. I have a coworker who mentioned a few hundred over invoice was possible given his experience in purchasing a 2001. Given the current economy and the fact there is little to differeniate the '01 from the '02, I will be targeting invoice.
