LONDON, England — A preview of the Concours of the Future cars includes the Lamborghini 350 GT, Bugatti Type 35, Rolls-Royce Phantom and a postmodern Audi Auto Union race car.

The Concours of the Future is a new addition to Salon Prive 2013.

The one-of-a-kind cars are the work of undergraduate students from the Royal College of Art's vehicle design program. The students were asked to "revisit some historic Concours-winning cars and redesign these icons for the modern world and beyond," according to Salon Prive 2013 organizers.

One of the more compelling entries is the Rolls-Royce Phantom, which features a round, windowless door and a massive front end. The postmodern Audi Auto Union race car is distinguished by a single headlight and tires that seems to dwarf the vehicle. The Bugatti Type 35 is perhaps the most conventional car of the bunch. It features body panels that appear to be laced together. The Lamborghini 350 GT is characterized by hidden rear wheels and a curved hood.

The cars will be revealed on September 4. A total of 11 futuristic cars will be shown at that point. Winners of the top three designs will get trophies and Pommery champagne. The overall winner will travel to Milan to get a tutorial session with Andrea Zagato at the Zagato Design Studio.

Edmunds says: We get an intriguing look at how future designers are thinking.
