BRENTWOOD, England — Ford's official European tuning partner Mountune is opening a satellite operation in Southern California.
For those not familiar with Mountune, the U.K.-based aftermarket tuning company is known overseas for providing high-performance parts for Ford cars. The U.S. arrival of Mountune coincides with the fairly recent U.S. launch of the Ford Focus ST and Ford Fiesta ST. Mountune currently builds aftermarket parts for those vehicles in the U.K.
Although Mountune hasn't specified which parts will be available stateside, it currently offers kits that crank output on the Ford Focus ST up to 271 horsepower and torque to 295 pound-feet. The Ford Fiesta ST's performance ratings are boosted to 212 hp and 236 lb-ft. The Focus ST kit currently costs the equivalent of $1,900, while the less-elaborate package for the Fiesta ST runs about $900.
"As Ford's official tuning partner in Europe, combined with an impressive array of market-leading parts already under our belt, nobody is better positioned to bring engineered expertise in upgrading and tuning Fiesta, Focus and other Ford platforms to the enthusiasts of the U.S.," said Mountune's marketing manager David Moore.
Mountune plans to have a distribution center, dynamometer, machine room and engine-building center at its main facility in Southern California.
Edmunds says: One good thing about Mountune's tuning packages is that most of the performance mods will be offered with a Ford Racing warranty when installed through the Ford dealer network.
