MUNICH, Germany — BMW has unveiled its Vision Gran Turismo concept that was designed exclusively for the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 racing simulator.
BMW promises that the concept will deliver "blistering lap times."
The low-slung concept gets a dramatically sculpted hood and an oversized rear spoiler.
"Gran Turismo and BMW share a genetic passion for cars — both modern and classic," said Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president of BMW Group Design in a statement. "I've followed this racing game franchise from its beginnings and am extremely excited about the increased visual realism of Gran Turismo 6 and its incredibly authentic driving experience."
The concept from the Bavarian automaker is part of a bigger initiative called "Vision Gran Turismo" between Gran Turismo development studio Polyphony Digital and a number of leading automotive manufacturers, design houses and brands.
The partnership includes teams from Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Bertone, GM Design, Honda, Infiniti, Italdesign Giugiaro, Mercedes-Benz, Nike, Nissan, Peugeot, SRT, Volkswagen and Zagato design concept models that will be re-created as working cars for the upcoming installment in the Gran Turismo franchise.
All of the cars will be released to owners of the game between 2013 and 2014 as downloadable content (DLC). Gran Turismo 6 hits shelves on December 6.
Edmunds says: This virtual concept would be awesome in the real world.
