DETROIT — The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and GMC Yukon go farther on a tank of gas than outgoing models, according to the EPA.

The redesigned full-size SUVs with the standard 5.3-liter engine and two-wheel drive deliver 16 mpg in city driving and 23 mpg on the highway.

Fuel economy has been raised by nearly 10 percent, GM said in a statement on Monday.
The 2014 versions deliver 15 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg on the highway.

The top-of-the-line 2015 Yukon Denali models deliver 15 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg on the highway in two-wheel-drive configuration.

The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Monday pegged the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline at $3.41 versus $3.77 a year ago.

The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon compete with the Ford Expedition, Honda Pilot, Lincoln Navigator, Nissan Armada and Toyota Sequoia.

The EPA has limited information posted on its Web site about 2015 models at this point.

In comparison, the 2014 Ford Expedition with a 5.4-liter V8 engine delivers 14 mpg in city driving and 20 mpg on the highway. The 2014 Toyota Sequoia with a 5.7-liter V8 engine delivers 13 mpg in city driving and 17 mpg on the highway.
