TORRANCE, California — The 2015 Acura NSX supercar took a step closer to reality on Thursday, courtesy of the first look at the new NSX prototype from Acura's official Twitter account.

"Yes, the NSX tweet is real," wrote Chuck Schifsky, an Acura spokesman, in response to a query from Edmunds.

Acura says the NSX prototype will take a lap on August 4 before the Mid-Ohio Indy 200. The event will be broadcast live at 3 p.m. EDT on NBC.

The prototype is shown in blue-and-white livery and bears a strong resemblance to the concept.

The setting for the debut lap is appropriate, given Honda's commitment to build the Acura NSX in Ohio. The 2015 NSX will be produced exclusively at a new $70-million Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, and exported around the world.

Honda said earlier that the NSX will begin mass production in 2015. Pricing has not been announced.

Edmunds says: Expect that lots of people will be glued to their TVs on August 4 for this dynamic debut of the 2015 Acura NSX prototype.
