WASHINGTON Chrysler is recalling 125 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 pickup trucks because a transmission problem may lead to a rollaway risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"In the affected vehicles, the transmission case may have been improperly machined which can result in the park pawl not properly engaging when the transmission is in the 'Park' position," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "If the park pawl does not properly engage, the vehicle may roll away, increasing the risk of a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries."

Chrysler said it is unaware of "any associated injuries, accidents or customer complaints" in a statement posted on its Web site.

The affected trucks were built from January 24, 2014 through February 5, 2014 and are equipped with eight-speed automatic transmissions.

Chrysler dealers will inspect and replace the transmission. The recall is expected to begin in May. Owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Edmunds says: The recall will begin shortly, but if you own one of these trucks and have a concern, contact your dealer or Chrysler immediately.
