Just the Facts:
  • Chevrolet is introducing a first-ever "High Country" trim for its new-generation 2014 Silverado full-size pickup.
  • High Country will be the new Silverado's top trim level.
  • The new trim level includes High Country-specific exterior and interior features and a standard 5.3-liter V8.

SAN ANTONIO — Chevrolet unveiled here today the 2014 Silverado High Country, a new premium trim level for the brand's redesigned full-size pickup that "will be the top model in the Silverado lineup, with a higher level of premium features and materials with a rich, Western-themed appearance," said Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director, in a statement.

The Silverado High Country will join the LTZ and Z71 trims for the new 2014 Chevrolet pickups, which go on sale this fall.

Chevrolet said the distinguishing exterior features for the Silverado High Country include a trim-specific chrome grille with horizontal chrome bars, halogen projector headlamps and body-color front and rear bumpers. Chrome also features prominently in the High Country's 20-inch wheels and there are chrome body side moldings, door handles and mirrors.

Interior upgrades for the 2014 Silverado High Country include a saddle brown color exclusive to High Country and "authentic materials throughout." Also packaged with the new trim are heated and cooled perforated premium leather front bucket seats with High Country logos on the headrests, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment connectivity with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bose premium audio and front and rear park assist.

Standard for the High Country will be GM's new Ecotec3 5.3-liter V8 that generates 355 horsepower. Buyers can also opt for the 6.2-liter version of the Ecotec3. Although GM has yet to present specific details about that engine, the company said earlier this year that the 5.3-liter Silverado in rear-drive layout will offer class-leading fuel economy of up to 23 mpg in the city.

Although the High Country is billed as the new Silverado's highest-content trim level, there of course will be options, such as a navigation system, sunroof, trailer brake controller and rear-seat entertainment.

Chevrolet has yet to release pricing for the 2014 Silverado lineup.

Edmunds says: Pickup sales are picking up again, and Chevy wants its new-generation model to offer something for the buyer who wants everything.

You think they would have learned by Terrain sales that this styling isn't much of a winner, no matter how much chrome you use.

So Chevy releases the "new" Silverado with the "new" and improved 5.3 liter V8. Yet it still has the least powerful V8 in the class for it's size. It makes 5 hp less than Ford's DETUNED 5.0 liter and the larger 5.3 from Chevy makes only a measly 3 lbs-ft of torque more. And the 5.3 is direct injected too, the Ford is not. I wish Ford wouldn't have detuned the 5.0 so much for the F150. I know they HAD too in order to justify the Ecoboost V6. But if they'd of only detuned the 5.0 to 380 hp and 385 tq, chances are they would sell very few of the Ecoboost V6's. Chevy comes out with a brand new engine, and it's already 2 steps behind.

A safe redesign leads to bad looks. To me it looks like they went backwards. The front grill and headlight stack are ugly.
