TORRANCE, California — The base 2013 Lexus CT 200h starts at $32,945, including an $895 destination charge, reflecting a $2,930 price increase over the base 2012 CT 200h.

This is the first significant price increase for the least expensive Lexus hybrid, which debuted for under $30,000 as a 2011 model.

The base 2012 Lexus CT 200h starts at $30,015, including an $895 destination charge. The 2011 CT 200h had a sticker price of $29,995, including shipping.

Options can rapidly escalate the price, with the availability of a $6,770 navigation package and a $3,405 leather package.

"The CT moves into the 2013 model year with minimal changes," said Toyota in a statement.

Official EPA figures report the 2013 Lexus CT 200h returns 43 mpg in city driving and 40 mpg on the highway.

The CT 200h is spun off the Toyota Prius, but features a sportier hatchback body. In comparison, the 2013 Toyota Prius starts at $24,995, including a $795 destination charge.

The 2013 CT 200h is more expensive than one of its rivals, the 2013 Audi A3 2.0 TDI with a diesel engine. The 2013 A3 2.0 TDI with front-wheel drive starts at $31,145, including an $895 destination charge. The base CT 200h is $1,800 more expensive than the A3 2.0 TDI.

Edmunds says: A fairly hefty price boost for the 2013 Lexus CT 200h.

  • Comparing apples to oranges - The "Premium" 2012 CT200h is now the lowest priced 2013. The equipment with the 2013 base level now includes the Power Sunroof and heated seats that were the difference last year between the "base" and "Premium" There is an $800 (2.4%) change for 2013 for comparable models.

    Lexus eliminated the 2012 base model as there was not a high enough demand for a vehicle without a power sunroof and heated seats.
