WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling 118,800 2010-'12 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks because the hood could open unexpectedly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The hood may be missing the secondary hood latch," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "If the primary hood latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly. During vehicle operation, this could obstruct the view of the driver and increase the risk of a crash."

The affected trucks were built from November 9, 2009 through August 28, 2012.

GM told federal safety regulators it is aware of two incidents related to the recall.

GM dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the hood on any affected vehicles. The recall is expected to begin on January 17. Owners can contact Chevrolet at (800) 630-2438 or (866) 996-9463.

Edmunds says: If you own one of the aforementioned GM trucks, this is a problem you will want to address as soon as you receive your recall notice.
