Poor Man's 3 Series (and then some)
By exriguy on
2012 Acura TSX Special Edition 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 5A)
Read all the reviews and bought a black Special Edition.
Paid just over $28k and it is the best "drivers car" you can get at that price, hands down.
The sports interior on the SE is roomy and as nice as an M3; all the controls and fit and finish are what you'd expect in an Acura.
Seats are perfect and standard equipment is plentiful; base stereo rivals upgraded stereos in other cars.
Handling is on par with a 3 series, steering included.
Despite the occasional review about vague "on center" steering feel, it is only in contrast to the previous car -- hardly noticeable and far from an issue.
Takes corners with a nimbleness that only a 3 series can rival, but for $10k+ more.
Sports mode on transmission -- makes the car feel like it has 25+ more horsepower and keeps the engine in the sweet spot of 4-6 thousand RPMs.
No need to buy the manual as the paddle shifters and sports mode make it moot.
Interior upgrades on SE are spot on; red stiching, red guages, simulated alcantra, figured black wood and aluminum pedals are amazing at this price.
Gas mileage is fantastic; simply perfect balance of sport and practicality for a daily driver.
Car feels like it is chiseled from a block of granite and will go 200,000 miles without a hiccup.
No idea why you can't order this car with Nav or the V6.
A hair bit less road noise would be nice -- it is on par with $30k cars, and less than comparable Infiniti's, but if you just got of a Lexus you might notice it.
Wish I could have opted out of the body kit, but I guess that just means I'm getting old.
I can't say anything novel about the grill that hasn't been said before; works better here than in the TL for sure though.
