Used 1990 Volvo 740 Wagon Consumer Reviews
Great in New Zealand too
I bought our 740 GLE wagon as a cheap runabout with an increadible 440,000 km on the clock. (It was a former Volvo country service car). I can now see why people love these cars. Our BMW sedan stays in the garage and this gets used as the family car weekends now. The kids love the back row of seats. Incredibly practical round Wellington which is a tight, hilly city with the boxy corners and great steetring. We like it so much we tried out a new one. Not as good! Suspect Volvo has lost the plot under Ford.
Fast Swede
Car was 5 yrs old with 25K when bought. Suspension was typical station wagon and a bit scary. Replaced all shocks with stiffer model, added front and rear sway bars, shock tower brace and under engine chassis brace and all season perfomance tires. Also turned-up the boost to 14 from 8.5. Car now handles great, brakes very well and with 222 dyno'd horsepower keeps up easily with all traffic. Car is excellent long distance cruiser as wheelbase and extremely comfortable leather seats encourage continued driving. Vehicle has been well maintained by independent volvo mechanic and has been very inexpensive to date. No rust but little driven in winter. Good for another 150K.
Best ever
Lots of fun to drive, safer than most cars, much comfort, just a very good car all around.
