First Month with My "New" Touareg TDI

Just bought one of the "re-engineered Touaregs that have been coming on the marketing. Car was the dealer's car, so I don't think it was ever taken out of service, but I could be wrong. With 19,000 miles on it I purchased it for 28% off list price which I consider a fair deal, but not a great deal. I had my eye on one of these for some time, and had watched a number of reviews, mostly … very favorable. Overall, the car in white looks very sharp and people sometimes confuse it for a Porsche (built on the same platform as the Cayenne). So far, so good with the car. It has a great ride,-handling balance, the diesel motor gets me around 21 mph overall driving in sport mode, it is quiet and overall a very nice vehicle to be in and to drive.

Google VW mlb platform and you will see that the Touareg’s shell comes from the VW Slovakia assembly plant. Bentayga and Lambo Urus also use this MLB evo platform.
1st Gen Touareg (7L) model year 2003-2010 the first true German suv designed by VW group. 2004-2008 there was a V10 TDI extremely unreliable, every repair requires to drop the engine on a special lift.
2nd Gen Touareg (7P) … model year 2011-2017 had better reliability and didn’t offer the air adjustable suspension. Be sure to get the TDI monster torque with 700+ mile range averaging 28mpg.
3rd Gen Touareg (CR) model year 2018-present. This Gen was canceled for the American market. Porsche Cayenne (9Y) was the only version you can get but no TDI.
2023 update: I have owned my 2015 Executive TDI from 100k-130k miles now with zero major repairs. It does eat up tires due to a full time 4 wheel drive system (40-60% to the rear) and the front brakes rotors take a beating the calibers are OEM brembo the tank curb weight is more than 5000lb.
For diesel TDI Oil change make sure you are using a 507 spec oil. VW OEM bottle is a Mobile 1 ESP (5w30) and my personal preference is a oil brand made in Germany called Liqui Moly 4200 (5w30) this company use to make engine oil for fighter planes during WWII.
The ride is a perfect balance between a sports car and a utility vehicle with just enough ground clearance that can get you through 90% of the apocalypse.
This is the biggest hidden gem in the used car market. Until they bring back the Touareg stateside, I’m ok with paying $150 oil change at VW dealer instead of a $500 Cayenne oil change. Some other reviewer said it right; this folks-va-gun is a Wolf 🐺 in sheep skin.
