Used 1995 Volkswagen Passat Consumer Reviews
Great car with electrical issues
I have been driving this car for the past 16 months. I really enjoy the car, but have experienced some electrical problems. The power windows recently stopped working for the passinger front and rear windows, as well as for the sunroof. Occasionally, the car does not start unless I get out and unlock the door with the key (weird!). I was told that it would cost just under $2k to fix the window issue. Otherwise, the car is great, powerful and fun to drive.I am not sure whether I should fix the car or trade it in.
decent
Have had minor problems, but mostly because of the mileage. Have replaced all wheel bearings plus front axles. Brakes have just been replaced as well. Otherwise...not much. A strange occurence: the fuel injector stopped working one day, took it out, and put it back in on a hunch and it has worked for 4 months since. Also have had the door lock freezing problem (minnesota).
Still look at it with admiration
I bought my Passat used. My car had all options - minus the automatic transmission. Repairs can be expensive. Little things have gone here and there but overall, the car has been a solid investment.
Unreliable
One of the best riding cars I've ever owned. Unfortunately it left me stranded several times, and is insanely expensive to fix! Sold it recently and will not buy another VW.
expensive repairs, but a fun car
owned the car for eight years; driven 130000+km; I absolutely love the car; however, every time I take it to the dealers for maintenance, it's costing me an arm and a leg. I have experienced a worn wheel bearing, oil filter seal leak, ignition firing system replacement, etc. Contrary to what other reviewers have claimed, I don't have much electrical problems. Anyways, this car corners like it's on rails, especially if you fix the "toe" to all 4 wheels. This car is not very suitable for cold weather. The door, its windows, and the lock freeze. It's very important not to wash the car during winter.
