VW Automatic - gas hog
Great vehicle, but with an automatic transmission it's a gas hog. My average highway mileage is only 28.8 MPG. I've had a few tanks in the low 30's MPG. The city mileage is around 20 MPG. I've had it checked by a garage twice and they didn't find anything wrong. Had it into a VW dealer once for another problem and the representative didn't think that 28.8 MPG for highway mileage for an automatic was out of line.
Gotta love it
I purchased this car used with 34,000 miles on it, and it is the best car purchase I have ever made. I 'upgraded' to the Golf from a 1996 Neon, and the difference is unbelieveable - it is a luxury car compared to the Neon. It runs great, and is a blast to drive. I am now up to 40,000 and have had no problems or complaints (except for the cup holders - but a little hacking took care of that problem!) I mean, how can you go wrong with such a cool looking car that has so much zip, and can fit 18+ moving boxes in it, including the driver and a passenger? This car has definatly made me a VW/Audi convert. Maybe the next time around I will be able to afford a GTI... :)
Good Good
I bought a used 1999 golf GLS for me this car is exellent. I have no problems performance wise. There are a few minor problems such as the rear winshield wiper acts funny and some others but nothing crucial. This car is very fun to drive.
VW has made me believe...
Very happy with my VW Golf after nearly four years. It's my first new car after college, and for the money it's been an excellent vehicle. I've had one or two issues, but the warranty or VW has helped me nearly every time. The only bad stuff happened when I took it somewhere else when it should've gone back to the dealer. I don't miss having power windows or four doors, as the standard features more than make up for that. Some people must have bad luck, because I've never had a problem so bad that I wanted to get rid of it. In fact, my wife's Camry is up next year, and we're already scouting which VW is going to replace it! VW has a fan for life in me.
The Golf is a
I am very happy with my Golf. I bought it used with only 7500 miles back in 2000. The fuel economy is top notch. The looks are very stylish (especially when clean). When the back sets are down, it has a huge cargo area. I even used it to pick up a recliner from the furniture store! The only problems I have been having are the "check engine" light has come on 3 times in the almost 3 years I have owned it. Nothing major..just goes with the territory of owning a car, so I won't complain. VW service is very reliable and customer friendly. I would definitely get another VW (hopefully a Passat..if I win the lottery).
