Used 2008 Toyota RAV4 4dr SUV 4WD (2.4L 4cyl 4A) Consumer Reviews
Worst Vehicle I've Ever Owned
Before the final stroke of the pen, I decided to buy the Toyota extended warranty - which actually seemed ridiculous that a Toyota wouldn't go 100K without a major problem. That was the only redeeming feature of my purchase: by 80K miles they replaced the alternator, air conditioning condensor, all valve stems and the COMPLETE ENGINE. When I informed Toyota of this total disaster they produced, the best response I got was that it was a good thing I bought the warranty. It is now gone and I'll never deal with a Toyota product again.
Not your father's Toyota
Toyota had a reputation for quality. This is not an example of that. This vehicle has had multiple issues. The most expensive one was the transmission failed at 105,000 miles. The dealer who had a Lifetime Warranty, did not honor it. It cost $4,000 to replace at a transmission shop which was less than the $7,000 the dealer wanted. Also, the paint has been flaking for years. The Rav4 has had 13 recalls. You might ask me why I keep it. Well it was my late wife's vehicle which I keep as a memory. Also, our teenager drives it. I can say with Firestone Destination II tires, it goes very well in the snow.

Not so reliable as they say
I don't know what the fuss is all about. It's nice for the first few months, then you start seeing all the negative aspects of the car. Yes, it looks nice, it has lots of room, but there are issues. Overall, very overrated car. In reality, as an owner - I'd say it's terrible.
Will not buy about another Toyota
First off, I've had three yodas: 89 corolla 214,000 mi, 95 Camry 250,000 mi and this rav4. The rav just feels cheaper: the paint has way to many chips, the transmission is horrible, rough ride in the city, the stereo sucks, interior is loud, not enough room in the driver (I'm 62" 200 lbs) and passenger seat, we are expecting our third child and have to buy three new car seats because the second row is so narrow and it just doesn't feel like it is going to hold up. Now the good: zero problems in the first three years (of course it's just past the three year mark), awesome second row leg room and cargo, great in the snow, gas mileage is decent, and the wife loves the second glove box.
The car from hell
Bought the car used with 79000 miles. At 160000 miles the transmission failed, the motor failed (rod bearing). and the computer failed. Shop told me only the dealer could repair the computer problem and would be very expensive. After spending over $5000 to replace the motor and transmission I decided not to throw any more $$$ at this car. Car also had several safety recalls. Previously owned a 2003 Rav 4 and never had a single issue. Had 200000 miles and still ran like new. Have lost my faith in Toyota products.
