Overview
Offering a version for virtually any truck buyer, it's no wonder the Ford F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. This full-size pickup sits above the smaller Maverick and Ranger in Ford's lineup and has enough different variations for just about anybody. Whether it's a bare-bones work truck, a near-luxury pickup with leather, gadgets, and tons of chrome, or virtually anything in between, the F-150 lineup has it covered. There's also the all-electric F-150 Lightning and heavy-duty Super Duty series, both reviewed separately.

Edmunds spotlight: Diverse lineup
The Ford F-150 boasts one of the most diverse lineups of any vehicle. Starting with the bare-bones XL trim to the luxurious King Ranch and the powerful off-road-focused Raptor, it seems as though there's a model for every kind of truck buyer. If that's not enough, there are also endless options to appoint your truck to perfectly suit your needs. This is particularly true when it comes to towing, as the F-150 can pull up to 13,500 pounds when properly equipped. Trailer backup assist, an integrated trailer brake controller and extended blind-spot warning further ease the burden on the driver.
Competitors to consider
Competition is understandably tight in the full-size pickup class and there's no doubt rivals have the class-leading F-150 in their crosshairs. The Ram 1500 is also a great choice for its comfortable ride and refined interior, while the Toyota Tundra has smooth power and easy-to-use controls. The GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado are also in the running, but they don't manage to meaningfully distinguish themselves from the rest. You should definitely start your truck search with the Ford F-150, so be sure to check out our Expert Rating.
What’s it like to live with?
Back in 2021 we added Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid to our long term fleet. During its time with us, we took it on multiple camping and other road trips, and of course used it to move untold numbers of boxes. The hybrid powertrain garnered almost zero complaints about power, with the combination of the hybrid's electric motors and the powerful turbocharged V6 proving significantly more than adequate. All the while, the F-150 impressed us with its ride quality and quiet cabin, even though our XLT trim wasn't particularly bougie inside. About the only real downside was fuel economy numbers that rarely reached the EPA estimates. We managed just under 20 mpg overall, which isn't bad for a powerful full-sized pickup, but we'd hoped for better. For more specific thoughts, check out our F-150 Hybrid long-term review here.

Very Good

We drove the 2025 Ford F-150 on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Driving experience
8.1/10
How does the Ford F-150 drive? The F-150's powertrain lineup includes two turbocharged V6s, a V8 and a V6 hybrid. Our test truck had the PowerBoost hybrid. At the Edmunds test track, it accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. That's pretty good overall for a pickup but a bit slower than the latest Ram 1500 with its latest inline six-cylinder engines.
The F-150 has direct and quick steering. That makes the truck feel smaller and more nimble in parking lots and more stable on the freeway. The handling and ride quality are also quite impressive given that it has rear leaf springs. (The coil- or air-sprung Ram still rides better.) The brakes are powerful and give you confidence in their stopping power. Considering its high towing and payload capabilities, the F-150 is overall a pleasing truck to operate.
The quantity and performance of the driver assist functions are very good, including the available BlueCruise hands-free driving assist tech and Pro Trailer Backup Assist that lets you easily steer in reverse while hitched to a trailer.
The Tremor and FX4 add trail-ready upgrades like a suspension tuned for off-road duty, all-terrain tires, lockable axles and protective skid plates.

Comfort
7.7/10
How comfortable is the Ford F-150? The F-150 can be a very comfortable truck, depending on the options you choose. The front seats are supportive and can include heating, ventilation, and even a massaging function. The climate control system is powerful and requires minimal adjustment, with simple physical controls. The interior layout is intuitive, so you won't second-guess what you're reaching for.
The crew cab offers plenty of sprawl-out space, typical for the segment, and is accommodating for car seats. The large rear seating area provides ample room, and the lower attachment points are easy to access. However, the upper attachment requires threading the strap through a loop on the seatback and across the cabin to a central mounting point, which can be challenging — a common issue among trucks.
The extended SuperCab features clamshell-style rear-opening back doors, while competitors use front-hinged rear doors.
Road, tire and wind noise is minimal. Most engines sound cool without being overly loud, though the optional PowerBoost hybrid vibrates and sounds like a portable gas generator when charging the battery.

In-cabin tech
9/10
How’s the tech? Every 2025 Ford F-150 comes with a 12-inch touchscreen. While rivals offer screens in various sizes, the F-150's is attractive, intuitive and easy to navigate, outperforming Ram's portrait-oriented screen in usability.
It also boasts modern connectivity features like multiple USB-A and USB-C ports, a wireless charging pad, and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The FordPass app enables remote functions, and the "Phone as a Key" feature adds convenience, though it lacks a full digital key system.
Notably, the Pro Power Onboard system turns the F-150 into a generator with bed-mounted outlets, perfect for tailgating, camping or off-grid adventures. The system is available in 2.0-kW, 2.4-kW and 7.2-kW outputs.

The 2025 Ford F-150 offers a range of trims to suit different needs, with competitive prices and several lucrative incentives for savvy buyers.

Storage & cargo
7/10
How’s storage and cargo? We tested a five-passenger SuperCrew. Its front center console provides numerous storage places for drinks and phones, but it isn't as deep or as accommodating as the Ram's more configurable storage area. The Ford's trick optional folding tray that transforms the center console into a flat work station (or snacking table) can be handy, but the accompanying power-folding shifter seems like needless gimmickry.
The crew cab's 60/40-split rear seat bottom serves as the lid to a full-width storage box. Cleverly, though, that box folds away to provide a vast, nearly flat storage space. The Ram 1500 counters with underfloor storage.

Value
7/10
Is the Ford F-150 a good value? This is a solidly built and well-appointed truck that provides luxury touches at the upper trim levels. On top of the F-150's stout standard offerings that line up confidently against competitors, its true value rests in its wide range of configurations and distinctive options that allow buyers to tailor their truck to their needs. The only place the Ford doesn't pull ahead of its GM and Ram competitors is in warranty and ownership perks — it offers similar coverage.
Towing & hauling
9/10
How is the towing and hauling? The F-150 is the top light-duty pickup truck when it comes to towing and hauling. With the right equipment and configuration, the F-150 is rated to tow as much as 13,500 pounds and haul up to 2,440 pounds. The bed isn't the biggest, but Ford offers an optional split-opening tailgate that helps make it easier to reach into the bed. The available power up-and-down feature and tailgate step are also useful.
MPG
3/10
How’s the fuel economy? Fuel economy for the Ford F-150 ranges from 19 mpg combined with the 5.0-liter V8 to 23 mpg combined with the hybrid powertrain. (The Tremor off-road trim gets 17 or 18 mpg depending on engine.) This range is below average for a new vehicle but average for a large truck. The hybrid's fuel economy also matches that of the diesel-powered Chevy Silverado.
X factor
9/10
When a vehicle is as popular as the F-150, its ubiquity can make it feel less distinctive. That said, we think it's a good-looking truck inside and out. The F-150 is quick, impressively capable off-road in Tremor trim, and offers a fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain. Plus, unlike the Ram, our experience shows it's a reliably solid choice.
2025 Ford F-150 trim level differences
The 2025 Ford F-150 is offered in six primary trim levels: XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch. There are also the off-road-oriented Tremor, Raptor and Raptor R versions that exist outside the traditional lineup. There are three cab styles — regular, SuperCab (extended) and SuperCrew (crew cab) — and three bed lengths depending on cab style. Along with the many trim levels and cab styles, the F-150 offers six available powertrains. All are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Which F-150 trim does Edmunds recommend?
We think the XLT represents a great overall value. If you can stretch your budget a bit, the hybrid powertrain is worth getting because of the long-term gas savings. Broadly speaking, consider an F-150 with Ford's BlueCruise hands-free system if you do a lot of highway driving and Pro Power Onboard if you use your F-150 a lot for recreation or job sites.

Smart Truck, yuk!
2 out of 5 starsScott, 05/15/2025
2025 Ford F-150 XLT 4dr SuperCab 6.5 ft. SB (2.7L 6cyl Turbo 10A)
I have owned four f150’s since 2016, this 2025 is the worst, the truck it self is great but having smart features is totally horrible. The dash screen and main screen resets itself to what it feels like and at anytime. Sometimes the shift lever will automatically go into park, blind spots are everywhere in the cab on this vehicle, no thought was put in place with the shift lever getting … hit by your hand accidently and goes into neutral or even worse reverse, at times when shutting the vehicle off the ignition key will not go fully back into position to remove the key, why do you need to view the radio station channel in three to four different locations, these screen features that are now in most new vehicles are "SO" distracting preventing you from driving safely, the list goes on. Why can’t Ford let the buyer have the option to select this truck with out smart features, I would give my left arm if I could get my 2020 F150 back.
