Used 2010 Toyota Prius Consumer Reviews
One year in.
We bought our Prius on the last work day sat. feb 27, 2010 and got a great deal. It was quota time and with all the recall news on Prius we ended up saving $4,200. We also found a Toyota dealer on line to get and extended factory warranty for $820. as opposed to the dealers $1399. After some 7,000 miles we were amazed to get some 53mpg warm weather and around 47 in the Ohio cold. Very pleased with the mialage. We have never driven in anything but ECO gear. We will replace our 2004 Pontiac Vibe (Matrix) with a new Prius once we see what the new ones have to offer. The Vibe has been excellent but is now obsolete. My daughter will take it over.
Areas of concern
The sun visors do not come down low enough to shield the early rising sun. I am still blinded after dropping the sun visors down. They should be made a little larger. Also, the side mirrors do not give me adequate vision of drivers just behind my right rear. Otherwise, I have really enjoyed driving this vehicle.

10,000 mile followup
This is a follow up after having my Prius V for around 10 months and logging around 10,000 miles. Overall this is a good vehicle and its not been back to the dealer except for oil changes and the brake recall. My overall mileage has averaged between 46-51 during the period as measured by miles and gallons the dash readout is usually optimistic by 2-3 mpg. Great electronics: Bluetooth phone and audio streaming navigation, keyless entry, push button start. However, its annoying that you cant do certain functions with the touch screen while moving (set navigation; dial the phone, etc.). The problem areas of this vehicle for me are: Seat comfort & road noise See suggestions below
Improve the visibility
I owned my 2010 Prius for just under a year and learned to hate it for the following reasons: Bad bad brakes, hit a bump and lose them for a split second, not dangerous but disconcerting. Visibility to the rear and sides is awful, especially in the winter; the bottom half of the split rear window is impossible to keep clean. My wife, who is 5'2", refused to drive it because of poor visibility. The dash squeaked in cold weather. Dashboard readouts difficult to read with polarized sunglasses. The handling is not quick and the seats, while okay for a short drive are murder on a long one. Bought a Civic Hybrid because it doesn't have any of the problems listed above.
do not buy. drive & quality poor
I hate it, wife loves it. had the car 2 months and it is covered in dents from acorns (tree above our parking space). this is not just my car, I have looked for and seen this in parking lots on several prius's. drive is not comfortable, poor seats and acceleration makes the gas engine rev wildly but have little effect. interior ceiling feels like recycled cardboard. (feel roof when you test drive). rear view mirror shakes with stereo base. only use is for short runs where you don't go over 30mph. (wife uses it for these) unfortunately I drive 99% on the freeway and the car shakes at 55mph (center console esp.). windshield fogs up quickly at all times.
