Jack of all trades

This is such a fun car, considering it can seat four adults in comfort or carry a whole ton of stuff. The back seat is easy to drop flat, yet is a real full-size adult seat when it is up. Despite being a proper little utility vehicle, it also has great handling and a peppy engine - you never want for power yet the fuel economy is great (35+). I do believe you need to choose the manual transmission with the available power here - the automatic is much slower and also harder on gas. And I think it's a looker! One of my favorite details is the optitron gauges - I know those are becoming much more common these days, but I like how easy they are to read.

Worst car I've ever owned!

Made one of the biggest mistakes of my life when I decided to buy a Toyota to save on gas. Best mileage i have seen is about 24mpg. The car vibrates horribly at interstate speed. It rides harsh like a lumber truck and is about as noisey as one too. Engine is junk, noisey and very low on power yet Toyota has the throttle wound so sensitive that it will bark the tires when pulling away from a stop. Its also super boring to drive in general, they should have called it the Toyota Snooze. Interior is cheap and uncomfortable with really illogical layouts for storage and cupholders. The car's only decent feature is the rear seats that fold down and the plastic lined cargo area. No better than any other small hatchback though and most competitors actually offer some sort of comfort, style and performance without the embarrasment of driving a Toyota. I almost forgot to mention the unbelievably cheap paint and horrible outward visibility. Its easier to back up a full size pickup truck than try to see out the rear of the Matrix. Save yourself the hassle and disappointment and skip the Matrix unless you are looking for a slow, boring, ugly car. I for one will never buy another Toyota again.

Rides like a truck. The gas pedal is very touchy. Easy to squeal tires when trying to enter into traffic. Price was right. Interior looks cheap. Excellent stereo system compared to most vehicles.

This car's super-cheap to maintain and it's great on gas. It's fun to drive, unique on the road -- people look at her all the time -- "Cool car!" It's got GREAT 360 visibility, and you can get a whole lot of stuff into that hatchback/backseat. CON: Loud at high speeds. You can't hear well enough to talk on your phone, which is probably something you shouldn't be do while driving, anyway 😉

I can't say enough good things about this car! I've had it since December, and already put almost 8000 miles on it! The gas mileage is amazing (~35 miles to the gallon) on the beltway. The design and handling are great! It's a smooth ride, and there is more than enough room for myself and my family of four! More cargo room than any of the other "wagons" out there, and it's a cute sporty mom car for the young at heart who aren't ready to graduate to the minivans, but also not willing to suffer the cost of fuel in an SUV!
