Pros and Cons after 30 days

After waiting until the worst time in living memory to buy a car, a close approximation to what I wanted appeared and I grabbed it. After 30 days including one long trip my expectations have largely been met with a few pleasant and not-so-pleasant surprises. Cons: 1. Contrary to Edmunds review, visibility not as good as expected: The rear-view mirror and camera housing reduce forward views, especially for right turns. The rear gate glass is smaller than I would prefer and the second row headrests block some of it further. Side view mirrors, however, are excellent. 2. As Edmunds review indicates, cargo room is not great. I thought I would overcome this by keeping the third row down but was surprised by how short the back gate is -- fitting tall objects is not possible, especially compared to my old CRV. 3. Front seats not as comfortable as hoped for. They're fine but less comfortable than Sienna seats on long trips. Pros 1. After reading some negative reviews of the 8 speed AT, I am happy to report no issues at all. Shifting is as smooth as I could hope. 2. Responsive, powerful engine and comfortable road ride -- just what I was hoping. 3. Driving tech. I did not expect to like the lane assist or assisted cruise control but on a 500 mile trip they were great. Overall, very happy so far but the real reason for buying the Toyota can't be assessed in 30 days -- stay tuned for the 3000 day report.

My 2022 Highlander AWD

I love the new 2022 Highlander with its sporty design and bucket backseats. It handles well with quick acceleration. It has several new features that were not on my 2019 Highlander AWD including the phone charging station. Also, it has multi-terrain select for the AWD to break down the types of terrain: mud and sand, normal, rock and dirt, and of course steep terrain and snow.

I LOVE my New Highlander!

I traded in my 2019 Chevy Traverse for something slightly smaller and more reliable ( way too may problems with the traverse for only 3 yrs in and 26k miles). We are only about 760 miles and one month in….. I grew up in a Toyota family and I was so happy the Highlander finally offers standard features like CarPlay and WiFi. I absolutely love how it drives and all the safety features. The softex in my opinion is far better than genuine leather- much more durable and less susceptible to getting too hot or too cold. The only downside (and by no means is it a deal breaker for me) is the smaller 3rd row and that it doesn’t fold completely flat - it slopes down slightly toward the back of the car. All that is solved with a cargo organizer to keep things from rolling downhill! If you only need the 3rd row once in a blue moon, like us, then this is a solid family suv. Smoothest, quietest ride I have ever had in an suv. I’m still trying to figure out the Toyota app suite as the entune is no longer supported ( and the dealership doesn’t know the answer ) but thankfully I can use all the apps on my phone!

PROS: Styling, quiet, comfortable. Attractive interior, not overly luxurious but it works.Large nav screen. Has all the safety driver assist features including adaptive cruise control (a must). I especially like the "Birdseye view" feature which I find very helpful when parking. Also, a rear bumper mounted camera that can send what it sees to the rear view mirror! Heads up display very useful. CONS: More of a would like to have list than real issues. power folding mirrors. Power tilt steering wheel Larger fuel tank. At least 20 gallon. Audible beep when lane drifting More legible print on function buttons on steering wheel. Difficult to read ,especially when driving into sun. More HP. Not particularly responsive. And ECO mode is all but useless. I normally select SPORT mode for most grades Overall, a satisfying vehicle that deserves consideration

Purchased my 2022 highlander xse in May. From the beginning heard whistling noise from driver side mirror above 40mph. As well as weird noise as I went over speed bumps. Contacted the dealer rep who sold me the car and he said the noise in the front is the suspension breaking in. In my mind I said "yeah right". With s grain of salt I continued driving the vehicle and every time I went over speed bump in the community I live in I consistently heard the noise. I took the vehicle to a different toyota dealer initially the tech claimed he didn't hear anything. But when I requested to ride with him he noticed it. In addition to that he isolated the noise to the passengers side front area. Unfortunately I have leave the vehicle with them for more thorough investigation. As for the cross wind noise from drivers side mirror. I was told they replaced it and toyota corporate has no solution to this issue. Basically I'm stuck with that annoying whistling sound for now. On another forum many others are excision the same issue.
