Used 2001 Toyota Highlander SUV Consumer Reviews
Sitting High
Had driven Accords since '85, but was tired of being the lowest riding thing on the road! Tried many SUV's but like the handling of the Highlander better than most and now I can see over bridge railings, etc. Avgs. about 22mpg w/2WD V6. Wish that were a little better with recent gas prices, but haven't ever checked it on just highway driving. Bought a used 2001 w/27,000 miles about 6 months ago and except for the aforementioned goofy cup holders and lack of console, I love it. I'm not a small driver, and it is more comfortable than most any vehicle I've driven. Plenty of room in the back seat even with my drivers seat all the way back.
Great Car
We have had this car for over three years now and have been extremely happy with it. The back seat is roomier than most larger cars and we have been amazed at how much we can haul inside (furniture, skis, bikes ). The Highlander handles somewhat like a car, drives well in ice and snow, accelerates quickly and is small enough to park just about anywhere. Very dependable - highly recommend it.

Love It
I traded in a 1994 Lincoln Town Car on the Highlander. A very good decision. My first impression was the short turn ratio. My second, was that the V6 is the size engine that handles this weight vehicle better than the 4- cylinder. Finally, it rides like a passenger vehicle...most of my passengers make that comment. Rides five comfortably. My understanding is that it rides on the Camry chassis.
JAPANESE BUILT
This is probably one of the best light truck/SUV buys. You cannot beat this. Bought mine used 2 months ago and have not been dissapointed. Almost identical layout as the lexus rx300 and gx470. It's got the reliability of an ES300. If you want to spend more money on the car and not worry about the repairs - this is your car/truck.
Why no power passenger seat?
I got this car as a dealer demo, so it is loaded with pretty much all options. The car runs and handles well. It is quiet, well-appointed, and reliable. Typical Toyota. The only complaint that I have is that no power passenger-side seat was available; c'mon, Toyota! This is a 30K car! Acceleration is brisk, handling is very good, especially given its high stance. It basically drives like a 4WD Avalon.
