Sluggish 4 cylinder Hybrid

MCam, 11/06/2023
2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

Great vehicle in every way but engine being sluggish. The partnership with BMW on interior seats and finish is comfortable and luxurioius. The underperformance of acceleration with the 4 cyliner non turbo just isn't enough power. The 6 cylinder was better.

Too loud when windows down or sunroof open

I was so excited (after waiting for a year) for this vehicle...the coveted 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Platinum. The technology is incredible compared to my old car and the exterior and interior look sharp and luxurious. BUT, I have a few gripes: 1. The number of cup holders leaves a lot to be desired. The small holder in the door is hardly large enough to hold a small cup. And there are only 2 normal sized holders for the front seats. 2. Once CarPlay is hooked into the vehicle, it's impossible to get back to a normal screen. It's either CarPlay or nothing. I often turn off the bluetooth feature on my iPhone so it doesn't automatically connect. 3. IT IS SO LOUD WHEN THE WINDOWS ARE ROLLED DOWN AND/OR THE SUNROOF IS OPEN. This is just really poor design from a car company that I trusted to get this basic feature right. I wish I could recommend an alternative to this vehicle. Definitely test drive with the windows down and also the sunroof open. 4. The front seats are sporty, but uncomfortable. I had to turn around the driver's side head rest so I could sit up straight which compromises safety in the event of an accident. The sporty head rest pushed my head forward so I felt hunched over. Very uncomfortable. 5. Too bad everything is plastic these days. From the exterior grill to the interior trim. Cheap looking and feeling. I expect way more from Toyota.

Love my Highlander Hybrid AWD Platinum

Stingray, 04/08/2023
2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

Love my Highlander Hybrid AWD Platinum! It is comfortable, roomy, luxurious and high tech! Great Gas mileage, solid feel and love the HUD and all the electronic safety features! Bluetooth Apple play is a nice upgrade. Second row captains chairs are very nice with their own heated seat controls and a/c controls, and side curtains for privacy. Third row is small but some extra seating if needed. Plenty of room for storage with third row folded down. And again… really great gas mileage! Great car for long trips, roomy if mainly used as 4 passenger vehicle, with an occasional person or two in the third row. Cons: not many complaints, electronics are sometimes overwhelming, typical toyota factory noisy tires, no easy exit on memory seats, bland front grill design, not any real major issues! This is my second Highlander AWD hybrid platinum. And have it’s little brother a 21 Venza

Great suv for what I need

This is a good looking and very practical suv. I have the hybrid Bronze edition. I get about 36 MPG combined while driving in eco mode. It’s roomy in the passenger and 2nd row. The third row is a bit cramped however and made for children under 11 years old to be comfortable. The only downside is that the trunk space is bit small if the 3rd row is in the seated position.

I replaced my 2019 Highlander, gas 6 cylinder, with a 2024 Highlander Hybrid limited. Overall it seems better but I miss being to open just the back window. Also, I feel the seats were more comfortable the 2019. However the gas mileage is amazing. 36-40mpg on most trips compared to 17-24 on the 2019. It is nice on the highway and the engine noise is not that bad even if I need a boost of power! With just over 3000 miles on the 2024 it seems a solid investment and should be good for many years. One side note, the dealers today do not give you a detailed owners manual, only a short version unless you want to purchase one for $50-$65. For a vehicle which we are forced to pay sticker price we should be given an owners manual to help us operate this machine. The online version doesn’t work for me. Update: Now with 12,500 miles on the Highlander, I continue to be happy. Great gas mileage. Comfort is good and engine noise is no different than in my previous 2019 with a gas 6 cylinder engine. I continually see 36-42 mpg on many of my local trips. About 32mpg on the highway. With the colder weather here in PA, I have seen a drop in the gas mileage but that was expected.
