I bought my 93 Camry as my first car at a 7eleven parking lot for 600$ even with 206k miles on it and some little minor things wrong with it but didn't bother me because i knew it would be worth the investment. These cars last forever and the V6 edition is very fast with a very nice pick up(it beat most of my friends brand new cars, including the 2009 Honda accord coupe) These cars in particular will last a while as long as you change the oil every 3,000 miles or so. Toyota will never be beat by any other car even by Honda. In my opinion Toyota should bring back the 92-94 camrys because it is the greatest car they ever built! My 93 Toyota Camry now has 216k miles and still runs almost perfect!

This car was handed down to me through the family and now after 20+ years of ownership I am sad to see it go. No words can describe exactly how reliable this car is. It was also very comfortable, and this coming from a pretty heavy set guy. Overall it is a great great car to own even in this day and age, and I have no complaints about it what so ever.

My 1993 Camry has 130,000 miles and runs beautifully. It's still a sound and good looking car with no rust. I've only replaced the brakes shoes once and have only needed minor repairs and I'm not that great about routine maintenence! It's not a hot rod or a hot style but I've gotten my money's worth. It's paid for and I plan to drive it a couple of more years!

173,000 miles to date. Still original exhaust, and one brake job! The engine and transmission remain strong. The biggest repair was a driver side power window motor. The vehicle has been bullet proof and extremely reliable. At legal speeds during highway trips, the V6 returns 29-32 mpg. The car continues to earn my respect with each passing maintenance free mile.

I'm on my second. Has NEVER left me high and dry. Had a power window problem with the first, (before I totalled it). It has timeless styling, so it still looks brand new. You never see them for sale b/c people have no need to sell them. It fits a full-size mattress in the back, (rear seats fold down). I get 30 mpg. I've had 2 strangers come up to me and try to buy it. All this, and I have enough power/pick-up to burn idiots at stop lights. PLUS it's invisible to cops. I love this car and have no doubt I will be able to get another 5 years out of it.

After owning several American-made cars, this was definitely the BEST all around car I've had. There have been issues over the years with the electrical and little things beginning to break off (broken door handle, etc), but I think this is attributable to its age. It still runs with the best of them, a nice smooth ride and solid construction. I am still driving it, current mileage 211K. If I'd have maintained it better (regular oil changes, tires, etc) like a good car owner, no telling how long this car may last.

I bought this car for $3600 July 2016 with 71k miles on it. I have the 4 cylinder automatic sedan. The 4 cylinder has plenty of power and I never feel wanting for the V6 which consumes more gas by a fair bit. The fuel mileage of this car in the city is rather poor (I get between 16-17 MPG and about 270-280 miles per tank in my regular driving which is all city driving) but the highway fuel mileage is much better. I've driven 320 miles on the current tank, about 150 of those miles being freeway miles this time around. The car is heavy for the time and rolls around a lot. The brakes are lacking and even driving with overdrive off still results in a bit of a tough time stopping. When I drive other cars I find I end up braking too early. This car is incredibly reliable with the only thing having gone wrong in the lifetime of the car being the driver's door window regulator which I've replaced 3 times in the last year. I'm 18 years old and male and paid about $120 per month for insurance before turning 18 where I now pay about $90 with State Farm. Very easy to service yourself and parts are incredibly cheap. The car is super comfy. I drove 150 miles round trip yesterday and the nice cool A/C and quiet ride made for an easy time with 4 people in the car.

My dad bought me a 93 Camry when I was in high school. It was 2005 or so. I drove that car until 2017 when I bought a newer Toyota, and I miss that car every day. The only thing that ever went out was the water pump, which was easy to replace. I still see these cars driven around everywhere, and it's 2022! Those are some well made cars.

I bought this vehicle in 2015 with 125,000 miles on it. I still own it now with 202,000. The engine is still strong even though it has an oil leak. I just keep putting oil in it. It's not worth getting the leak fixed. At this age (27 years old!) the car's plastic is starting to get very brittle. Two door handles and the gas door have broken off. To my knowledge the timing belt/chain has never been replaced, so I know I'm living on borrowed time. But, sheesh, this car owes me nothing! I will probably replace it soon because the AC is not working and air (heat) only comes out the panel. This car has been extremely dependable.

I've only had it for a little more than six months and it's been a great car. Love the performance even though it has 171,000 miles it has its details. Probably the owners that had had it before didn't take care of it so I'm just doing some fixings on the suspension system and the interior, but the engine hasn't given me any problems at all. Great car.

I've been a proud owner of mine for since this last March, and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I've done the normal general maintenence, oil change, undercoating, blah blah. The most recent problem was a CV Shaft replacement, and that was taken care of before I bought it. I've no major complaints about the car overall, it's a nice quiet ride, when I'm not blasting that Dolby Surround Sound system ;) and it handles extremely well. Gas mileage is what I expected from a Toyota, very good.

Toyota made a big mistake when they made this car I'm sure they did not intend on making it last as long as it does I just am at a loss of words. I really don't know where to begin I think I'll just say the cons if I can think of any I'm speechless.. all's I have to say if you can get your hands on one that hasn't been molested by Tom Dick and Harry get it it's just a dream come true the gas mileage is awesome it's not too big it's not too small it's super quiet when you put up the windows you might have to replace the rubber seals around the windows if they're worn out so you could have achieved complete solitude when you're driving down the highway people just look at you in this car and they just say man that guy is smart smart guy I mean yeah would I rather be driving a brand new Lexus hellyeah but I'm not I got this car for 900 bucks as it has 200,000 miles on it and it feels like I just rolled out off the lot brand new like incredible get one if you can that's all I have to say hearts are ultra-cheap if you ever need any man they don't make them like this anymore

Easily the most overengineered generation of Camry

Ed, 09/03/2020
1993 Toyota Camry LE V6 4dr Wagon
3 of 3 people found this review helpful

The 3rd gen camry will outlast the heat death of the universe, even neglected examples of the vehicle still get you reliably from point A to B. This generation was built during the peak of the 90s Japenese economic bubble, so no expenses were spared in the development of these. The estate/station wagon models had two rear wipers, how many other vehicles have that? The interior still looks like the day it was bought in my own 24 year old Camry. The potential for a sleeper build is definitely there, but requires lots of custom parts as aftermarket support is almost non-existent. Upgrading the stabiliser/sway bars to thicker ones significantly improves handling and keeps the vehicle planted like glue even during hard cornering. Add a strut tower bar for a little more stiffness. Fortunately, stabiliser and strut bars designed for the 4th gen Camry are compatible with the 3rd gen. The main selling point of the V6 is the high low-end torque, which allows for surprisingly quick acceleration for a grocery getter. These vehicles are often underestimated since they are very popular "appliance" vehicles. A manual V6 Camry will have some serious pull from a stop, but even auto transmissions still pack quite a bit of power. 92-93 year V6 models had their engines detuned to 185 HP, this could be brought up to 200 just by advancing the ignition timing to 17 or 14 degrees depending on pinging, and adjusting the air flow meter to allow more air in the fuel mix...no aftermarket parts needed. The front exhaust pipe going from the rear cylinder bank to the collector should be replaced with a much smoother bend for an extra 10-15 HP. With these modifications the engine is on par with Toyota's performance engines at stock specs like the 2JZ. The V6 engine for 92-93 year models were also extremely overbuilt, the crankshafts being able to put out 400 HP without major issues. At that point the pistons were the weak parts, being cast aluminium instead of forged. Forced induction will be a challenge as there isn't much room in the engine bay; common turbocharged builds see the battery being relocated to the rear of the vehicle. But it is a lot more fun than people usually think, mainly because nobody ever expects a mid 90s Camry to be turbocharged. Performing basic maintenance is very easy on the V6, however spark plugs will prove a challenge as the rear bank is blocked by the upper intake plenum, however with two 6 inch extensions and a universal joint, this can be done without removing it. Oil changes can be a bit annoying if one doesn't poke a hole in the oil filter first, as the filter is mounted on the side of the engine block, and angled slightly upward so upon loosening it the oil inside will come pouring out and all over the front motor mount. Since the 92-93 year models share many parts with the Lexus ES300, this also means that they can actually take a cabin air filter and have the slot for inserting one. Later year models changed it to block off that slot, but if one feels like it, one can cut out a slot in the same area and the guide rails for a filter will all still be inside.

This car is incredible!! I am a full time college student and waitress and my old car broke down, so I got my Camry. I was worried becuase it had 200,000 miles on it....a year and 30,000 miles later it's still running great. All I have had done is basic maintenance, and I can't believe how great the car runs. I just love it!!!

I bought this Camry in Anchorage, Alaska with 152,000 miles on it. It has been a fantastic vehicle. It now has traveled 185,000 miles and it still gets 19 city 26 hwy mpg, runs like a top, performs well, and is very comfortable for a large person (6' 2" 230 lb). And everything still works! The only thing I would change if I could is to have a Camry wagon like this with AWD. That would truly be a car for the long term.

all i would like to say is that this 93 camry se it's the S**T!!!. i love this car and dont think about selling it any time soon. i go to college upstate Ny and drive an estimate of a 400miles every 2 months for the last 3 years and so far no problem. Only problem that the car ever had was the transmission. The 5th gear wasnt working but i fixed it with less than $1000USD and never again transmission problems. My its a 5speed so its really good with gas even for a v6. my dads 2004 camry le drags more gas than mine, i dont how but it does. maybe because my dads its automatic and mine is 5 speed so im able to change the gears for the right time. When it comes to speed and peformance 10/10

I love my Camry! This was my first car, I got it at 161k 2 years ago. We have put way more than the car is worth in repairs, but all are reasonable considering the car is 17 years old and now has 204k on it. The distributor went out in May. The oil leak has been repaired numerous time and still persists; once leaked on the rotor and caused car to die. With a V4 it's not very fast. I've kept up with all maintenance but I inherited the car with some electrical problems; reverse lights don't work. I think my transmissions about to go. Car barley passed smog this year because the timing is off, engine needs a tune up. Regardless of the problems its been an awesome first car!

I bought it used at 177,000 for the original owner. It had been well maintained. It only needs regular oil changed and tune ups, the power in this car is great, and I have to say that it's okay on gas. I've been rear- ended twice with no need to go to a body shop. Now at 277,000 the transmission is going and I think I have to buy a new car, but this car has taken me everywhere I fancied with absolutely no problem.

My parents bought this car after I was born, and I eventually started driving it. I couldn't ask for a better first car. It always starts, has pretty good pickup for a 2.2 L and I think it's more comfortable than my mom's new Honda. The car has nearly 140K on it and still runs like the day we bought it. The only complaints we have are: transmission going out after warranty expired, both CV joints going out around 100K, and a seemingly faulty exhaust system. Other than those couple things, the car runs beautifully and will hopefully continue to for many years to come!

We have owned this wagon since it was new. Often we have thought of trading for a new wagon, but there just doesn't seem to be anything comparable in the same size and price range. Here we are 13 years later and still waiting for a wagon as roomy, powerful, reliable and economical as the Camry! Current resale is around 2500.00, what a joke! This car is such a value vs. the cost of a Volvo or Audi, I guess we will just keep on ridin'. Someone please start making wagons like this again!

When I got my first car at 16 I drove around in an SL-1 Saturn 1995. Then I decided after a couple of years to try out an older Toyota to try out the dependability on my own. I must say this thing has nothing stopping it. Bought it at 129,000, and now I have 160,000 on it. The only things I've had to replace on it in two years was a new distributor, an engine mount, and the timing belt.

I had a 91 Camry LE V6 wagon for 10 years with aprox 190,000 miles. I put 150,000 more on it. Of course I had to replace some things, it was my only car, driven every day. I paid 1200.00 for it spent about 2000.00 over the years. That totals 3200.00 but divided up over time tells the story. I would still be driving it were it not for an accident that totaled it a few months ago. Also like to mention that I came through the accident unharmed. While shopping for another car I found a 1993 Camry LE V6 deluxe wagon with 125,000 miles, pretty much like a new car, It's my new car now!!!!

I have spent a lot of money on this car in repairs. It never seems to end every time I fix something another thing breaks. Transmission went bad at 103.000 miles over $1,800 to fix. 2 cv axles went bad at 67.000 miles. Water pump needed replacement at 71.000 miles along with the timing belt, tensioner, radiator went at 91,504 miles, now car has developed a major oil leak at 113,000 miles and was told its leaking from the head gasket a cost of $900.00 from day one this car makes all kinds of noise when cold out something to do with bushings in the front and rear. It has a 4 cylinder motor which only gets 12 miles to a gallon. My next car will not be a Toyota. I'm thinking of a Nissan altima

Had it almost six years. things don't break often but cost some money to repair. almost 10yrs old, 160000 miles so getting old. Engine sounds great but has lost power. some days feels new or feels as sluggish as a corrolla. Transmition very rarely doesn't want to go into overdrive when first started but eventually does. i've ragged this car(probably why losing power) and it's not burning oil. Body style is ten years old but it still looks, sounds, and rides like a new car. very reliable, in shop less than neighbor's 2000 impala, always starts unlike their 1995 monte carlo, and never squeeks like my other neighbors' 2000 suburban does every few months.

Mine is a 1993 4dr LE drives like a 6. This is not the flashiest or most powerful car on the market, but it is an affordable solid buy. I promise if you take care of it with minimal maintenance it will take care of you. 200,000 and 300,000 miles is not out of the question. My husband and daughter fit quite nicely in there with me, and we even use it to go to home depot, by dropping down the back seats. This car starts every single day and has never left me stranded. We just sold a 1992 Camry to our nephew and it had 187,000 miles when we sold it. He's getting close to the 200,000 mark. Still runs & reliable as a new car. These cars are fantastic, I will always be a loyal Toyota owner.

Bought this car last year, with 130K on it. I love this car, I wish cars were still made this well and felt this stable. With Shell Vpower, I can get 34 MPG with 40% city 60% highway. Never needs anything but oil changes, and they are a snap to do yourself. It is not the most fun to drive, but with the manual trans it is better than most camrys.

I love my Camry! It is very reliable and fun to drive. Between 45 and 55 it shakes, but any other speed is fine. The motor and transmission are fine at 180000 miles. I would recommend this car to anyone.

This Camry has been top-notch. It has saved my life twice in desperate situations by its agility and power, and kept me out of many potential situations. It's required only normal maintenance, with the exception of the axle boots. These tore, probably from one of the desperation moves. If you have a shimmy (between 50mph and 55, and widening with time) that's hard to diagnose, and the front end is tight, look to the boots. This car should make it to 300,000 now.

I bought this car only four months ago with 35800 original miles. The previous owner bought new and maintained it extremely well even changing the timing belt at 20000 miles. This is a real beauty. I love how well it handles and the way it looks. Kind of reminds me of the movie with Clint Eastwood "Gran Torino" in the sense that he admired his vehicle.Currently I have less than 40000 miles on it having decided to use only occasionally in town only. Man what a beauty!

This car has been in my family since it was new. I recently purchased it for my wife, from my parents. There has been no major problems with the car (just maintenance). It passes emissions with no problem. Looks and runs like the day they purchased it new.

nice size: holds 4 adults/3 kids in comfort, cargo area holds plenty nice looks: not like some that look like a sedan that the designers stuck an extra section onto. great comfort: when my back is hurting, and I can't find a comfortable chair in the house, I get into my car & go for a drive! the front seats fit like a glove! great handling: The "get up and go" of this car is essential for safety here. I have a terrible 'lead foot' problem! 0 to 60 in seconds is a requirement for MY cars. reliability? Of course! She's a Camry!

Surprisingly... Terrible Car

I purchased my 1993 Toyota Camry back in April of 2005. I bought it with 125,000 miles. As soon as I bought it everything started to go wrong. I had to replace two head gaskets. Two Oxygen sensors. A wheel bearing. Two CV shafts. Of course all of this didn't go right away. But I only put 15,000 miles on it since I bought it, and that's a lot to go wrong. Plus for a V- 6 it didn't seem that peppy. Also I got horrible gas mileage. The one good thing is that it ran smooth. I've had enough of it. I'm going to trade it in. I have owned a lot of cars in the past, but nothing was ever this bad.

this car has needed a new engine at 125,000miles, new tires, and multiple tripsto the dealer. After paying 1400 dollars for a top to bottom review of the car , the steering mechanism is now broken and needs repair estimated cost 500 dollars. Driving this car is like being invested in technology stocks in 2001 and sure fire loser. I think Toyota owes me a refund

I have had my Camry for 9yrs. and I have had no real problems except for 200,000 miles I had to replace the transmission. But, now at 283,000 miles she's starting to die. I love my car and would actually buy another. Toyota makes some great cars, and they last forever. I hate to do it but, I think I'm going to have to put my car to rest. If you're looking for a reliable, long lasting, fun car this is the one for you.

This car has been outstanding except for sunroof wind noise. Since the dealer indicated such noise was normal, I could not even get it fixed under warrantee.

After putting in over 100K in just 4 years, the car is still humming along like a trooper. Total vehicle miles is at 215K, no major problems, just regular maintenance and a leaking valve seal in the #4 cyl., otherwise, a great investment!
