Used 2007 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4dr SUV 4WD (4.7L 8cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
4Runner 4Ever...this vehicle is bullet proof
Update: I now have 75k on my vehicle. So far no major issues. Only had to replace the battery beyond regular maintenance. I bought this vehicle in early 2015. It was 8 years old but you would never know it from the looks and handling. The shifting of gears is very smooth. The ride is little more harsh then standard SUV but it is still very comfortable. The vehicle is very reliable. I have added 8000 miles since purchase and have had no issues except the replacement of tires and one tire (TPMS) sensor which is normal for any vehicle of that age. On long drives the vehicle handles very well. For the summer, the family trip consisted of a 2 week sightseeing tour through 5 states...no problem whatsoever. We were able to load all our luggage and gear (including an inflatable paddle board) in the cargo area. The seats are comfortable and the layout of controls are easy to handle. On steep upgrades, the 4runner performed flawlessly and mine is only a V6. I averaged about 19 mpg as a daily driver but during the long trips it would hit to about 22 mpg. If you have kids, there is a cigarette lighter in the cargo area. I purchased a long cable adapter and my child could play his electronics, while I still had my front charger for my electronics. In addition, I am not a mechanic but this vehicle is very easy to work with. The vehicle is high enough off the ground that I was able to add a hitch without a jack. There is a reason you see so many old 4Runners on the streets. They are extremely reliable and there are so many forums and youtube videos on how to DIY fix any problems. Cons: The cupholders plain suck. BMW cupholders seem better then the 4runner. Also, the stock radio (non JBL) was horrendous. I had to replace it with a Pioneer HU.

Reliable oldie in a constantly changing segment
I bought a used 2007 Limited v8 4x4 after a lot of research. I wanted a rugged SUV for hiking, camping, and shooting. Jeep doesn't have Toyota's reliability, or resale value and I disliked the build quality of the Patriot I had. Look at a companies attention to detail on lower end models to see the quality of a company. 4runner was the only choice for me. I got mine with over 100k miles. I have had to put money into it but that's more due to the mileage and the previous owner was rough on it. Pros: Very reliable, I moved away from home in Colorado for a job in Texas and was a bit nervous. I felt like my 4runner was my only companion/lifeline and it was very reliable even though I neglecting maintenance. It's an old vehicle which means there are cheap parts around to replace anything broken. Better than that there are countless YouTube videos to assist if your in need. V8 is aggressive sounding and can chirp the tires if your turning right on red, even at 100k miles. Aftermarket support is massive. I'd love to get into overlanding once its paid off. No shortage of custom bumpers or lift kits. 4runner forums are exceptionally helpful. Feels like a stout SUV, not a unibody design that's made of cardboard. Can tow well up to 7500lbs...I've towed dozens of other cars and suvs. Rear window rolls down which allows air flow, and communication while offroading or towing someone. Looks great and is a 4runner, almost everyone likes them. Cons: Upfront costs are high/they sell quickly, I had 3 sell out from infront of me which was frustrating. Be patient and broaden your distance. Driving from Denver to Dallas was uncomfortable, no other way to say it. Seats aren't supportive for long trips. No seat cooling. Interior is ok but showing its age. V8 gas mileage sucks, 5 speed is strong but thirsty. I have a heavy foot but the v8 is hard not to rev out. I went to Moab and while I didnt go on any difficult trails it never wavered. Much more capable than most users will need. Summary: Great SUV that keeps me happy while Toyota figures out what to do with the Tundra/4runner redesign. Older vehicle without much of the newer tech...but without newer problems as well. SUVs are going to unibody designs now and EPA is seeping into everything. More technology on vehicles just mean more things can break and require specialization to replace which is expensive. I can do much of the maintenance on my 4runner myself. If you need a solid suv that and can afford the upfront costs look no further. I love my Funrunner! I follow vehicles closely and want a truck soon but the prices are insane. Ford, Ram, Chevy/GMC are redesigning their trucks to quickly to be proven. I'll wait for when either the Tundra or 4runner are redesigned. Summary: Great vehicle that lives up to its reputation. I'm at 128k miles and fully expect to double, maybe triple that. I am a firm believer of KISS when it comes to vehicles. Auto start stop is annoying, twin turbos aren't as reliable or steady as naturally aspirated v8s and there arent many replacements for displacement.

4Runner Limited
Purchased the 2007 4Runner because my 2001 SR5 was an incredibly reliable SUV and didn't cost me a dime to maintain other than routine work. The 2007 is better in every way. Handling, freeway ride, road noise dampening, stereo, interior comfort are all improved. As for the storage capacity, what you see before buying is what you get. Most people don't need more or they would be buying a larger SUV. The 4Runner is a perfect size for its intended market. It is not designed to haul 6 passengers. The third row is a compromise for those who need extra seating for small children only. It is bonus space and shouldn't be viewed as Toyota's failure to provide adequate seating for 6 adults.
Northern reliability
This vehicle is driven north of the 60th parallel. From -50 to +35 it has proven it's worth many times over. Up here our roads are so rough that it seems like your off roading every time you pull out of the driveway. Did I mention that the City of Yellowknife only does snow removal once a winter (7 months long) and never plows on a pro-active basis.
3 years and no regrets
Going on three years and 35000 miles with my 4Runner and still love it. I'm 6'2 and fit easily even with the sunroof. Ride is very smooth and quiet. (Smoother and quieter than our '06 TL.) Easy to see all around, mirrors are big, brakes work well, feels very safe. I feel like I can drive over or through anything even though I rarely go off road anymore. The only problems I've had were a couple interior rattles but the dealer took care of them. Sure the gas mileage is bad (average 16.3 with my lead foot in mostly city driving) but I knew that going in so can't complain. Highly recommend this vehicle.
