Love the car, hate that CVT
Love so many things about this car. Handles great, plenty of power, decent mpg’s, drives great through the Colorado Mtns, plenty of space, and tech works great after disabling some annoying features. The cons? This dang CVT programming is awful during acceleration. Cruises great, but these fake shift points make this one of the worst transmissions I’ve driven while accelerating. I had a 2018 Outback 3.6R before this, and that CVT was buttery smooth. I can’t believe someone approved this program. I heard the WRX CVT is smooth…so why make this one so horrible? The speakers are also pretty bad, but they work well enough that it’s lower on the upgrade list.

Outback Wilderness Buyer Beware
Recently purchased an Outback Wilderness. We love the ride quality. The suspension is great. The room in the car is amazing. Great visibility through out. Very sporty feel and has plenty of power, does have a longer turbo lag than I like, but it does a great job. Great looking car too. BUT....buyer beware! I have had my car in the shop for over 25 days diagnosing an engine jerk just shortly after start-up. The conclusion is this is normal for Subaru transmissions to act in this manner. I have never owned or seen a car act in this manner. It's actually quite annoying and makes me wonder how long before the transmission will start giving out. This makes me think long and hard if I will patronize Subaru again. The A/C on these things are terrible, consider additional window tinting, wish you could add ventilated seats. The infotainment center does have a lag to it. Wish you could add more options like a heated steering wheel and add either a head-up display or the Driver Focus (even though that feature can be annoying at times). The reason I give it two stars is all in the transmission. Though SOA says its normal, its actually very unrefined and distracting to the overall experience in what this car has to offer. I would give it one star, but SOA did get the engine and overall styling right, minus a few features.

Solid Subaru!
I enjoy my Subaru Outback. The way it drives compared to cars in my past is very smooth and efficient. It is sturdy in bad weather and very nimble despite having a low-powered engine. The cabin is quiet and comfortable with plenty of space. I wish there was more lumbar support in the driver's seat, but it is manageable. The only negative about the car is the infotainment screen. It is really slow and needed an update. I think it is sometimes hard to find important things needed when driving in the system that should be easily accessible. I use Apple Car Play as much as possible so I don't need to use Subaru's built-in system. Aside from that, the car is outstanding...especially the cruise control!

Great vehicle
Love my outback. Only disappointment would be the horn. Other than that, it gets great gas mileage, very comfortable drive, and very roomy.

Don't believe the hype
When your salesperson claims the Outback retains its value . . . or, many of our customers have positive equity at the end of their lease. . . . DON'T BELIEVE IT. My 2022 Limited XT 36 month lease, 12,000 miles per year has a buyout of $25,600. Car is 3 years old and has 36,000 mi on it. " The Subaru dealer said it's only worth $23,000. Upside down $2,300. Thats with all recommended service performed at the dealership. When I asked what about the hype of holding their value? He answered, " no one can predict the future. Any credi for the brand new Michelins I just put on? "Well Sir, we can't sell a car without tires." What about the Subaru hitch that I added? "Well Sir, that's your choice. Not everyone wants a hitch." Thats 42.5% depreciation in just 3 years. General Manager said, "that sounds about right!" When I mentioned that the 2025 will depreciate even more bc 2026 brings a new generation, his response was, "well the cost of the generation will be so much higher that it will raise the value of the used ones." My Girlfiend's 2021 CRV EXL cost $31,000 new. Dealers are offering her $25,000. Buyers beware. Subarus are expensive to maintain and do not hold their value.

Great SUV ruined by Crappy Infotainment center
The ride and handling is great, the ergonomics of the buttons and dials are distracting when driving, you have to look down at this half @ss infotainment center that only works less than half the time. The dang AC and radio works sometime when it wants to (everything controlled by this touchscreen. Had Software updated a month ago during 6k mile servicing. It still stops working sometimes. I have had same issues with my 2018 outback. Also Fuel mileage averages only 23 , interstate 24, 25 even driving it and not getting into TURBO

Spiffy wagon
I really love this wagon. It has very nice features. I don’t find the dashboard cumbersome and I love the tech. Great driving as well. Holds solid to the road and not bumpy at all

Mine has been pretty good. No issues except the car likes to head toward the center lane line. Did not really bother me but never used the steering assist button. Always fighting you as you drive to correct where you are in your lane. Wife was driving and I was in the back seat and she kinda was making me sick because she was always turning away from the center lane toward the right. We were trying to figure out what was causing this with the driver steering assist off. Finally , I disabled the lane departure feature and she drove it today and said it was fixed. I never really thought about that it was doing this but my wife thought it was me forgetting how to drive. She said she will not drive this car because of how she always had to correct the steering wheel away from the center line. Now she likes it. The light is on the dash all the time but it drives right now. It always seemed to follow the lane even with the steering assist off. Now it is right.

Outback with my Outback
We test drove many similar size cars, Tuscan, Rav4, Santa Fe, Buicks, Mazdas, and I love the way this cars drives and feels. It's a much smoother, quieter, firm but comfortable without the harsh hard feel ride and the seats feel a little bigger. It's our first car that's newer than 2015 so we are almost overwhelmed by all the newer options the newer cars now have along the huge 11.6" screen.

Value for Money
We're first time Subaru buyers and not caught up in the 'cult' of Subaru. However the Outback has proving to be a good vehicle. What I observe about the Outback is that in the lower trim levels, i.e. base and premium, the car provides a great value, is comfortable, has plenty of room, and adequate performance. The moment you move to things like the 'Touring' version there are far better choices out there. The pluses are good packaging, a reasonable level of comfort though I don't find the seats that good on long trips, a nicely trimmed interior, and lots of features. The downside is road noise on rough surfaces could be better controlled, the base 2.5L has adequate performance but lets too much noise into the cabin, and the 'Eyesight' system has some flaws. Overall I'd buy it again. There really isn't a great alternative in this class unless you go European and then you have all the reliability problems of those brands.
Just the best
Since a teen I have had 47 cars. Everything from Mercedes, BMW, Buick, Genesis, etc etc. This is my second Outback and now at my age I love it. Its the SAFEST CAR BUILT..I love the RAB which most cars do not have in addition to every safety feature available. Most of my driving is short city stops so the mileage is 23 mpg...but when I go on the highway its 32 mpg. The 4 wheel drive is the best and overall Subaru has been superb. You cannot beat it for the price point. The 2.5 engine without turbo is plenty fast and the ride is smooth.UPDATE: Now 8800 miles and no problems. Seems just about broken in and rides great.

Traded Subaru in
Love the car - dislike the dealer. I feel at home in the Outback. Comfortable and the right size for me I’d they get an Outback hybrid I’ll probably by another one.

New to Subaru Family
After driving Ford Motor Company products, (Ford, Lincoln and Mercury) exclusively for 40 years we took the opportunity to own a Subaru. I’ve been wanting to try one for several years. So far I have been impressed with most of what we’ve experienced. Everything from the driving dynamics down to the fit and finish. There are a few minor differences I would change but none that are significant deal breakers. I miss the keyless entry key pad on the door and the cap less fuel filler feature. The auto start stop feature is not nearly as smooth as what we are accustomed to but it can easily be disengaged. I would like the keyless start feature on the key fob but it is an add on accessory. Might be standard on the Touring edition, I’m not sure about that though. Miss the CD player but most newer vehicles don’t have them anymore. Younger drivers probably don’t care about it but I’m guessing the majority of Outback owners are not Millennials or GenZ people so us Boomers will have to adapt. We usually purchase new vehicles but We were not fans of the big plastic fender cladding on ‘23 and newer models so we specifically wanted a’22 with very low miles. We were able to find one as a Certified Used vehicle. I would recommend to anyone currently driving an SUV. Will have to wait for awhile until I review quality and longevity.

Keep you eyes on the road.
The quality was very good. The ride was good. It was such a pain with the safety features. Eyesight. Oh my gosh, don’t look out the side window at something as the car will set off an alarm telling you to keep your eyes on the road. Don’t wander even the slightest while driving or another alarm will go off. Incredibly annoying. The sensors are just too sensitive. The adaptive cruise with hands free steering was HORRENDOUS. It sometimes will jerk you harshly back into or out of your driving lane. Not as serious but certainly annoying was the super slow touch screen info centre. Remember dial up. Ya. That’s about sums it up. I wanted a Subaru for many years but after buying one it was traded in after only 6 months. Very dissatisfied
Outstanding with one exception
The exception is 2.5L engine noise. Vehicle needs more sound dampening materials to lower engine noise in cockpit.

Reliable and roomy
We purchased our 2022 Outback new in Aug of 2021. We now have 50,000 miles on it. To summarize I'd buy another but buyers should be aware of some of the + and - of the Outback. First let me address reliability: it has never let us down. The only problems we have had was a defective passenger window track that caused the window to keep reversing. Developed at around 30Kmi so covered on warranty. Also the power outlet in the back had to be replaced. Other than that it's flawless. The upside is the size is about perfect, it drives well, visibility is great. The negatives: the computer screen in the dash is a huge negative, we almost got rid of the car because you had to go into menus even to turn the seat heaters on. Luckily a software update improved things but Subaru's infotainment/starlink is a dangerous distraction and needs to be dumped. Subaru needs to go back to physical HVAC controls at the very least. The other negative is that the seats are so-so. They're hard and we ended up buying pads to make them comfortable on long trips. As to power, ours is the standard 2.5L. It's OK, able to maintain 70mph over 7000' Donner summit. It could be quieter but its fairly typical of modern 4cyl cars. I still wouldn't pay the fuel economy hit for the turbo. 4WD system is brilliant, one of the best I've ever had. Overall the Outback is a value play. Stay away from the expensive trims and you get great value for a great car. If you stray to the touring level, then there are better choices.
Love our Subaru but NOT the Sunroof
Our Subaru is wonderful but the sunroof has leaked 3 times! This is our 2nd Subaru but 1st one with a soonroof. It is roomy, comfortable, gets decent gas mileage for it size and has hauled all sorts of garage sale finds, plants and hardware store purchases. But the sunroof is an unbelievable stress. Last time it leaked was under the floor board where it wasn't noticed until it took out the car's antenna. The bill was $3,000. I park outside but not under any trees. Yes there are trees nearby...it is western washington after all. Now after every heavy rainfall we have to check under the mats. I pay $150 to have the drains cleaned before the rains set in. I just retirered and cannot afford a car payment but as soon as I can I'm getting something without a sunroof, even if it's not a Subaru. This is my second Subaru. The 1st was a Forester which did not have a sunroof that we easily sold at 136,000 miles.

Good safety features, mediocre performance
Infotainment is cumbersome; start stop is pretty ragged; needs more oomph - it’s underpowered. Rides a bit rough. Local dealer and national are both dismissive. Strong suite of safety features.

Best vehicle I traded too soon
I love this car. This is a green Outback Wilderness edition. When prices went up on all things I decided to “downgrade” to a more basic ‘24 Crosstrek. This Outback only has 3,500 miles on it so if you’d like it contact Adam. I am keeping it until June because my new car is currently being built at the Suby factory.

Beware 2022 Outback wilderness owners
I have been buying new vehicles for over 30 years and swap them Every two years because I drive a lot. I Dont treat cars any different and go 1-2k over the oil change but always do get it service. It’s my wife’s car and started making a horrible engine noise like no other brand I owned not even vehicles with over 150k miles when I was young buying used. In good will I took it to the dealership hoping it was something they would stand behind since they brag it’s the best vehicle they sell to find out they are not willing to do anything because the warranty expires at 60k miles and mine had slightly over that. Very disappointed and never had a problem with a vehicle in my life and wasn’t expecting it to be on a zero miles purchased two year old car. If you own one keep an eye on it as you may have the same problem knocking engine which is 8-16,000 dollars repair They were offering me 25,000 trade in value when they promised me it holds value and whatever it shows in the app that’s what they would give to me as trade in value Not True! They lie and none of the electronic alerts work to alert you they there is a problem with the vehicle not even the dashboard engine light comes on as a warning or in red while having a problem. My app shows no problem at all. I’d love to see if others have had this problem as it is an over 40,000 dollars car to be having this many problems.

dealer has a large comfortable waiting area with refreshments and places to work or eat. They have a room for children and a quite room for adults.
